CALGARY -- Its rare to see a penalty shot in the National Lacrosse League, let alone in a playoff game. So when the Calgary Roughnecks were awarded a penalty shot down by a goal with less than a minute remaining in Game 1 of the NLL West final against the Edmonton Rush, they took full advantage of the opportunity. Curtis Dickson tied the game for Calgary with 22 seconds left on the clock, and Jeff Shattlers goal 46 seconds into overtime gave the Roughnecks the thrilling 12-11 victory. "Thats probably only the second or third (penalty shot) that Ive seen since Ive been in the league," said Dickson, who added that although it was a "nerve-wracking" experience, he felt confident making the play. "Ive been in this situation before. We need a goal late to tie it up or get the win. I just did what I know how to do. I saw my spot, took a shot at the opening, and lucky enough it went in." Leading 11-10, Edmonton had the ball in the Calgary end, and the Roughnecks had an empty net after pulling their goalie earlier. But with the play along the boards by the benches, the Rush were assessed a rarely called illegal substitution penalty. "I guess we had too many and its the last two minutes so its a penalty shot, which is fine. I dont have a problem with that except for the fact they had about nine guys on the floor too," said Edmonton coach Derek Keenan. "If theyre going to call it on us, they should have called it on them too, or not call it. It was ridiculous." Shattler, who had two goals on the night, was equally amazed. "That call that they made was pretty gutsy," he said. "Too many men with 22 seconds left. I dont know many refs that would make that call." Shattler showed off his athleticism on the winning goal. After his original shot missed the net, the ball bounced high in the air off the end boards. Shattler, who saw it the whole way, raced after it, leaped high in the air and in one motion flung the ball into the top corner past Edmonton goaltender Aaron Bold. "When I looked at Boldie, he was still looking the other way so I thought if I get up there fast enough, Ive got a chance," said Shattler. "I shot it before I even looked at the net." He didnt have to look to know it went in as a deafening roar erupted from the Scotiabank Saddledome crowd of 13,618. "Tonight was an amazing experience, it was unreal," said Shattler. Greg Harnett, Shawn Evans, Karsen Leung, Daryl Veltman, Dane Dobbie and Scott Ranger also scored for Calgary. Edmontons offence was led by Mark Matthew, who scored three goals. Robert Church and Zack Greer each had a pair, while John Lintz, Curtis Knight, Riley Loewen and Nik Bilic added singles. The two teams will play Game 2 of the West final next Friday in Edmonton. Should the Rush win that game, a 10-minute mini game will immediately follow to decide who will advance, with sudden death overtime if still tied after that. "If we play as well as we did tonight with a couple little adjustments, well have a good opportunity next week for sure. We have to worry about that first one and then go from there with that quirky 10-minute deal," said Keenan. "When push comes to shove, you cant lose those one-goal games like that being up 5-1 and not putting the foot on the pedal," said Matthews. "We didnt do that and they came out with a lot of energy in the second half and beat us." After giving up the games first goal, Edmonton scored the next five and were cruising along nicely early in the second quarter when they were held to one goal on a five-minute power play. Calgary scored three straight right after that and the game was close the rest of the way. Edmonton led 7-5 at half-time and Calgary was up 9-8 after three quarters. "I thought we played well enough to win the game, to be honest," said Keenan. "I thought we played a real good game right from the start to finish. In all areas of our game I thought we were good and it came down to a couple of breaks that they got and they got the win. It was a tough one." Notes: Edmonton won three of the four meetings during the regular season ... Calgary was without veteran Geoff Snider (lower body), injured last weekend. Snider is also the Roughnecks main face-off specialist. Garrett McIntosh took most of the draws after only taking six face-offs all season ... Edmonton won the two previous playoff meetings between the provincial rivals, both wins (2010, 2012) were upsets in Calgary. New Balance Donna 574 . RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico -- Matt Jones shot a 5-under 67 on Friday to open a three-stroke lead over George McNeill in the PGA Tours Puerto Rico Open. Jones, tied with McNeill for the first-round lead, had a bogey-free morning round to reach 11-under 133 on the wind-swept Trump International course. The Australian is winless on the PGA Tour. "Ive been putting really well and chipping unbelievably well," Jones said. "My ball-striking was much better yesterday. I missed a few greens today." The wind increased throughout the day, gusting to 23 mph in the afternoon. "It started to kick up maybe around the eighth, ninth hole, but compared to yesterday, I didnt really feel it," Jones said. "Growing up in Australia, were used to playing in the wind. Its nothing uncommon, and I actually, more often than not, enjoy playing in the wind because it makes you not worry about score so much. You worry about hitting the shots one shot at a time, and you play a little smarter." McNeill had a 70. Japanese star Ryo Ishikawa, playing the event for the first time after failing to qualify for the World Golf Championship event at Doral, was four strokes back at 7 under after a 67. "Short game today was very good, and approach shots and putting," Ishikawa said. "Everything went well. That resulted in birdies and some nice par saves. So, the short game was the key thing." He also played in the calmer morning conditions. "I was lucky, but as I progressed toward the end, the wind got stronger and the conditions got tougher," Ishikawa said. "But under the strong wind conditions, I understood the difficulty of the course better. So I appreciate the design of the course more now." Todd Hamilton shot a 69 to join Ishikawa at 7 under. "Im pleased with the way Ive played," Hamilton said. "I havent played very well for a long, long time, and its nice to see not just a good nine holes, but a good 18 that I had yesterday and then another good 18 the following day." Andres Romero (67) was 6 under along with Boo Weekley (6, Kevin Stadler (69), Daniel Summerhays (70), Roberto Castro (69) and Kevin Kisner (70). Michael Bradley, the winner in 2009 and 2011, was 1 under after a 71. Canadians Stephen Ames and Matt McQuillan failed to make the cut. John Paxson Jersey . That bleach blonde Mohawk still stands out, but not as much as his first goal in Major League Soccer -- a wonder strike in the first half that helped propel Vancouver to a 1-0 victory in Ohio. Its arguably the first marquee event of every Winter Olympics, and the mens downhill in recent Olympics has provided surprising storylines. “The one thing about the Olympics especially in the speed disciplines, it so very rarely goes to the favourite, the favourite has so much pressure, and the variables are greater in downhill,” says CBC alpine analyst Kerrin Lee-Gartner, a 1992 downhill winner. “ Its not to say its a flukey thing, its just that everything has to align right, its harder for the favourite to make it align right in downhill.” In the last 20 years there have been four Olympic downhill winners who had fewer than three World Cup victories before making history: Tommy Moe of the U.S., Frenchmen Jean-Luc Cretier and Antoine Deneriaz, and 2010 winner Didier Defago of Switzerland. The Canadian Cowboys - Erik Guay, Manuel Osborne-Paradis and Jan Hudec - wouldnt qualify as surprise winners from an individual standpoint, but breaking a 20-year Olympic medal drought for the country in alpine skiing certainly would make fans take notice. No Canadian man has ever won a gold or silver medal in alpine. Steve Podborski (1980) and Ed Podivinsky (1994) each won bronze in the downhill. Guay is the likeliest contender to break through. Hes achieved two of his three career goals after winning a Crystal Globe season title in the super-G in 2010 and winning a world championship in downhill a year later. The Mont-Tremblant, Que., native is only missing an Olympic medal, preferably gold, after three separate top five finishes at the Winter Games. Guay has battled back this season from a knee injury to break Podborskis World Cup podium record for Canadian men. He finished seventh in the opening training session on Thursday. Hudec, he of the seven knee surgeries and more recent back injury, has also reached the podium this season. The Calgary native took silver in the super-G in Val Gardenaa, Italy in December.dddddddddddd Osborne-Paradis is waiting to take that next step. Since coming back in late 2012 from a knee injury, the North Vancouver native has had top 10 finishes, but has been unable to reach the podium. Ben Thomsen of Invermere, B.C., finished second on a slightly different Sochi course two years ago, but hes struggled mightily this season. There are two strong international contenders to buck the recent trend of surprise Olympic downhill champs. Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway, who won a medal of every colour in Vancouver, has run his total of World Cup downhill wins to eight this season with a pair of victories. Bode Miller of the United States has wowed ski fans again this season, coming back at the age of 36 after more than a year off to reach the World Cup podium once each in downhill, super-G and giant slalom. Millers yet to win since his comeback, but coming up golden for a sixth career Olympic medal would be just his style. The following men would also not be surprise winners: Dominik Paris and Christof Innerhofer of Italy, Adrian Theaux of France and Patrick Kueng of Switzerland. Even 36-year-old Didier Defago put his name into consideration again after his first victory in over two years last month, a super-G at Kitzbuehel. The lengthy course has received mostly positive feedback from the skiers, with many remarking on the "big air" jumps. 2010 Olympic downhill: Didier Defago, Switzerland (G), Aksel Lund Svindal, Norway (S), Bode Miller, USA (B) Olympic alpine skiing schedule: Sunday, Feb. 9: Mens downhill Monday, Feb. 10: Womens super-combined Wednesday, Feb. 12: Womens downhill Friday, Feb. 14: Mens super-combined Saturday, Feb. 15: Womens super-G Sunday, Feb. 16: Mens super-G Tuesday, Feb. 18: Womens giant slalom Wednesday, Feb. 19: Mens giant slalom Friday, Feb. 21: Womens slalom Saturday, Feb. 22: Mens slalom NFL Jerseys Cheap China Jerseys Cheap Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Jerseys NFL Cheap ' ' '

(SportsNetwork.com) - Richie Incognito has reportedly been admitted to a psychiatric care unit in Arizona. According to TMZ Sports, the offensive lineman at the center of the Miami Dolphins bullying scandal checked into a facility on Thursday night. Incognito was suspended by the Dolphins last November and didnt play the rest of the season after fellow offensive lineman Jonathan Martin left the team before a Week 9 game against Cincinnati and later claimed he had been bullied and harassed by teammates. The results of an investigation were released earlier this month and the 144- page report from Ted Wells concluded that the harassment was a contributing factor in Martins decision to leave the team, but added that it was not intended to drive him away or cause lasting emotional injury. Incognito had strong words for Wells via Twitter after the report was issued, then apologized to Wells, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and Martin a few days later. Earlier this week it was reported by TMZ Sports that Incognito smashed his own Ferrari with a baseball bat. The Wild entered this best-of-seven series as heavy underdogs against the defending Stanley Cup champions and fell behind 2-0 in Games 1 and 2 in Chicago before evening the set at 2-2 on home ice. The Blackhawks, however, regained the upper hand in the series with a victory in Sundays Game 5 and will try to punch another ticket to the Western Conference finals tonight. You can catch all the action live on TSN and TSN GO at 9pm et/6pm pt. A victory tonight would give the Blackhawks, who also won the Cup in 2010, their fourth trip to the third round in six seasons. Chicago, of course, is trying to become the first team to win consecutive Stanley Cup titles since Detroit pulled off the repeat in 1997 and 98. Chicago posted a 2-1 decision in the Windy City to grab a 3-2 lead. Jonathan Toews registered the winning goal early in the third period and Corey Crawford stopped 27 shots to put the Blackhawks one win away from the West finals. Bryan Bickell also scored and Patrick Sharp contributed a pair of assists for the Blackhawks. "The whole game, the whole series has been very tight," Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville said. "I thought we showed more determination in the puck area tonight." In order to end the series in six games, the Blackhawks will have to become the first road team in this postseason to win at Xcel Energy Center. Minnesota is 5-0 in St. Paul in the 2014 playoffs and last lost a postseason game on home ice when Chicago won Game 4 of last springs opening-round series. The Blackhawks went on to win that set with a Game 5 victory on home ice. "We definitely would like to finish it there," Chicago forward Marian Hossa said of Game 6. "We know how hard it is to play in their building and we know we have to be better than we were in the last three games." If Minnesota is able to stay perfect at home on Tuesdday, the clubs will meet Thursday at the United Center for a decisive Game 7.dddddddddddd Erik Haula picked up the lone tally for the Wild on Sunday, while Ilya Bryzgalov made 26 saves in defeat. "We had a pretty good start, first period, but then I thought we got soft in our game," Wild head coach Mike Yeo said. Minnesota grabbed a 1-0 lead on Haulas goal with 3:27 left in the first, but Bickell tied it with a power-play goal around the midway point of the second period. The score stayed 1-1 until Chicagos captain delivered the eventual game-winner early in the third period. Chicago took a 2-1 lead with 4:33 played in the third. Hossa kept control of the puck behind the Minnesota cage and drifted from the right side back to the left before dishing into the circle for Sharp. His try to the net was furthered by Hossa, then Toews fended off a Wild checker at the right post and backhanded the rebound home. Crawford backed up the tally by stopping all 14 Minnesota shots in the final 20 minutes. Bryzgalov was called to the bench with 1:47 on the clock, and Crawford endured some close calls on crease rushes by the visitors before the buzzer. "It (stinks) to lose a game like this, and obviously when you lose, youre frustrated, youre mad," Yeo said. "But I think theres been enough in this series where we should feel confident still. That said, we also recognize that wed better be ready." Minnesota dressed defenseman Skip Prosser in place of Keith Ballard, who departed Game 4 with an upper-body injury after being checked from behind by Blackhawks forward Brandon Bollig. Ballard is questionable for Game 6, as is forward Matt Moulson, who sat out the last two games due to an unspecified lower-body injury. Bollig sat out the first of his two-game suspension levied on Saturday and will complete the ban tonight. Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw missed a fourth straight game Sunday with a lower-body injury he suffered in the series opener. He expects to sit out again on Tuesday. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It was a mismatch on paper and on the field. About the only thing that made Sundays game between the New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars interesting were chippy plays near the end. Drew Brees threw for 351 yards and a touchdown, Darren Sproles added 188 all-purpose yards and the Saints beat the Jaguars 23-10 in a game that was more lopsided than the score indicated. The Saints (3-1) scored touchdowns on their first two possessions and looked well on their way to scoring 30 points for the fourth consecutive week. But Brees threw two interceptions, John Kasay missed two long field goals and the Saints managed just nine points in the second half. "If you had told us before the game that youre going to have 500 yards of total offence and youre going to convert 50 per cent of our third downs, we would have thought thats 40 points," Brees said. "Unfortunately, it was 23 points because we got inside the 20 three times in the second half and didnt come away with touchdowns. "So thats disappointing, but feel we have proven that we can move the ball. Now we just got to score touchdowns." It didnt matter against the Jaguars (1-3), who have struggled to score all season. Jacksonville has 39 points in four games, clearly dealing with the growing pains associated with having a rookie quarterback. Blaine Gabbert struggled in his first home start, no surprise since the Saints have given rookie quarterbacks all sorts of problems in three years under defensive co-ordinator Gregg Williams. Gabbert was erratic all afternoon, throwing high and missing wide-open receivers. He completed 16-of-42 passes for 196 yards, with a touchdown and an interception. He also was sacked three times. He didnt get much help, either. The Jaguars dropped several passes, including one by Maurice Jones-Drew on the opening possession and one by Mike Thomas on the final drive. "He definitely had some throws that he would like back," Jaguars offensive co-ordinator Dirk Koetter said. "Like any quarterback in the NFL, hes counting on his guys to make some plays for him. I thought there were some plays we left out there, some plays that we could have made." Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio vowed to open up the offence after last weeks 16-10 loss in Carolina. But it did little good with Gabberts inaccuracy and his teammates not-so-soft hands. New Orleans had far fewer problems. Brees completed 31 of 44 passes. Sproles had 75 yards rushing, 56 yards receiving and 57 yards in returns. "Everybody in the stadium holds their breath when he gets it because it could be a touchdown," Brees said. Jimmy Graham caught 10 passes for 132 yards, both career highs, and a score. "Drew is a surgeon with the ball," Graham said. "He throws to the open man. I just happened to be open quite a bit today." Grahams last catch was a 59-yarder that put the Saints in position to score 30 points with a little more than two minutes remaining, and they certainly tried to get it after Brees got upset about what he felt was a late hit. Just after Brees was sacked by Clint Session, 340-pound defensive tackle Terrance Knighton plopped on top of him. Brees got up in a huff, and players from both teams started pushing and shoving. Brees threw deep on the next play, but Devery Henderson stepped out of bounds before making the catch at the goal line. "I feel like they were trying to keep their scoring average high," Jaguars defensive end Jeremy Mincey said. "They wanted 30, but we didnt let them." Brees tried to play down the whole thing. "Yeah, I was on the ground and the guy hit me," Brees said. "He came up to me afterwards and said, I didnt realize you were down. It didnt seem like anyone hit you. Thats all right." Brees put the Saints in control with consecutive touchdown drives to open the game. He also made a touchdown-saving tackle following an interception late in the second quarter. "The fact that we put 500 yards out is big, but that has to translate to points," Brees said. Notes: The Saints became the first team from the NFC South to win in Jacksonville. Maddux was picked on 555 of 571 ballots by senior members of the Baseball Writers Association of America. His 97.2 percentage was the eighth-highest in the history of voting. Glavine, Madduxs longtime teammate in the Atlanta rotation, appeared on 525 ballots and received 91.9 per cent. Thomas, the first Hall of Famer who spent the majority of his career as a designated hitter, was at 478 and 83.7 per cent. Thomas said he accepts the view of many Hall of Famers that players whose accomplishments are muddied by accusations of steroid use, such as Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens, dont belong in the Hall. "Ive got to take the right stance, too. No, they shouldnt get in," he said. "There shouldnt be cheating allowed to get into the Hall of Fame." The trio will be inducted July 27 along with managers Bobby Cox, Joe Torre and Tony La Russa, elected last month by the expansion-era committee. Maddux and Glavine, who played under Cox for most of their careers, will become the first pair of 300-game winners to be inducted in the same year. "Its exciting for me to go in with my teammate," Maddux said. The only other time three players were elected together in their first appearances was in 1999 with Nolan Ryan, George Brett and Robin Yount. Biggio received 427 votes and 74.8 per cent, matching Nellie Fox in 1985 and Pie Traynor in 1947 for the smallest margin to just miss. Traynor made it the following year, and Fox was elected by the old Veterans Committee in 1997. Biggio, who spent his entire career with the Houston Astros, appeared on 388 ballots last year in his initial appearance -- when writers failed to elect anyone -- and appears to be on track to gain election next year. "Obviously, Im disappointed to come that close," he said in a statement. "I feel for my family, the organization and the fans. Hopefully, next year." Mike Piazza was next with 62.2 per cent, up from 57.8 last year. Jack Morris was 78 votes short at 61.5 per cent in his 15th and final appearance on the writers ballot, a drop from 67.7 per cent. Morris replaces Gil Hodges (63 per cent in 1983) as the player with the highest-percentage of the vote not in the Hall. Jeff Bagwell dropped to 54.3 per cent from 59.6, and Tim Raines to 46.1 from 52.2. Controversy over how to evaluate stars tainted by the Steroids Era continued to impact the vote totals of players with stellar statistics. In their second appearances on the ballot, Roger Clemens dropped from 37.6 per cent to 35.4, Barry Bonds from 36.2 to 34.7 and Sammy Sosa from 12.5 to 7.2. Bonds, baseballs career home run leader, is the only seven-time MVP in major league history. Clemens is the lone seven-time Cy Young Award winner. "As for what they did, I dont think any of us will ever really know," Thomas said. "But I can just tell you, what I did was real and thaats why Ive got this smile on my face right now because the writers, they definitely got it right.dddddddddddd" Mark McGwire, appearing for the eighth time, fell from 16.9 to 11 per cent -- down from a peak of 25.6 in 2008. Rafael Palmeiro will be dropped from future ballots after falling to 25 votes and 4.4 per cent -- below the 5 per cent threshold necessary to remain eligible. One voter submitted a blank ballot. "I can go home and sleep at night and rest," Thomas said, "so I dont have to worry about all the nonsense that the other people are going through, because I know I wont be getting a call in the middle of the night from someone saying, oh, he did this or he did that." Deadspin.com announced Miami Herald columnist Dan Le Batard had turned his ballot over to the website, which allowed readers to vote on how it should be cast. "I hate all the moralizing we do in sports in general, but I especially hate the hypocrisy in this," Le Batard said in remarks posted by Deadspin. "I always like a little anarchy inside the cathedral weve made of sports." BBWAA Secretary-Treasurer Jack OConnell declined comment. Maddux reached the major leagues in 1986 and Glavine a year later. They become the first primarily starting pitchers to enter the Hall whose careers began after Bert Blyleven, who debuted in 1970. And they are the first teammates on a starting rotation to be elected together since 1946. Add in Cox, and the induction will be dominated by Braves. "Its fitting, given the influence those two guys had on my career," Glavine said. "The thing that would have disappointed me the most had it not happened would have been a lost opportunity to go in with Bobby and Greg." Eighth on the wins list with a 355-227 record and a 3.16 ERA over 23 seasons, Maddux won four consecutive Cy Young Awards from 1992-95 and a record 18 Gold Gloves with the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego. An eight-time All-Star, he won at least 13 games in 20 straight seasons. Glavine, a 10-time All-Star and a two-time Cy Young winner, was 305-203 over 22 seasons. A two-time AL MVP, Thomas hit .301 with 521 homers and 1,704 RBIs in 19 seasons with the Chicago White Sox, Toronto and Oakland. Thomas becomes the sixth ex-Blue Jay to enter the Hall of Fame, following Phil Niekro, Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor, Rickey Henderson and Roberto Alomar. Of those players, only Alomar entered the Hall as a Jay. Writers who have been members of the BBWAA for 10 consecutive years at any point were eligible to consider the 36-player ballot. Next years vote will be even more crowded when Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz, Carlos Delgado and Gary Sheffield become eligible, five years after their retirements. The BBWAA last month formed a committee to study whether the organization should ask the Hall to change the limit of 10 players per ballot. In a sign of how some newly eligible players have taken votes from holdovers, Lee Smith dropped to 171 from 272 last year, his percentage falling to 29.9 from 47.8. The most fitting summary of the Minnesota Wild at the midpoint of their schedule came from defenceman Ryan Suter minutes after their latest flat performance.I dont know what the heck is going on, Suter said. Every days a bad day.The sobering comment from the teams lone All-Star came in the dazed moments after a 4-1 defeat at Chicago on Sunday, the Wilds 11th loss in their last 13 games. Theyve fallen into 12th place in the 14-team Western Conference. Following their breakthrough last spring that landed them in the second round of the playoffs for only the second time in franchise history, the Wild have become one of the NHLs biggest flops this season. Its not fun to be part of. Its not fun to play, Suter said. I dont know whats going on.There is still time for a turnaround, but it has to happen fast. With their record down to 18-18-5, they are seven points off the playoffs cut with three teams ahead of them. With 41 of 82 games remaining, the Wild will have to win a lot more than half of those and hope for some slumps by their conference competitors to reach the post-season.Last season, they were barely better at the halfway mark at 20-16-5, but they finished 23-11-7 to snag the seventh seed. Their even stronger showing in the playoffs led to a new three-year contract for coach Mike Yeo. Thats hardly security, though, given the way the Wild have been playing.Im not going to get wrapped up in that. I know one thing: Im just going to keep doing my stuff. Thats the way I am, and I would expect the same from them, Yeo said. The Wild are currently missing centre Mikael Granlund with a broken left wrist, and they have had all kinds of illnesses during the first half of the season that affected their lineup. Only five skaters have appeared in every game. But the problems have run much deeper than injuries.Yeo was in a precarious place a year ago after a six-game losing streak to finish 2013, but despite notable absences by Mikko Koivu, Zach Parise and the top two goalies, Yeo and his staff not only held together the group but guided a resurgence that transcended the regular season. At the exact point in the year when you thought wed fall apart, we actually became a team, general manager Chuck Fletcher said last year after re-signing Yeo. And theres a lot of work that went into that, and again Mike and his staff deserve a lot of that. The most glaring issue for the Wild is in goal, with a .892 save percentage that ranks second-worst in the league. Darcy Kuemper has been pulled from several starts, and Niklas Backstrom has not been sharp enough to unseat him as the regular starter. Josh Harding would have been part of the plan, but he broke his foot right before training camp and more recently developed complications anew from multiple sclerosis. The Wild are fourth in the NHL in both shots for and shots against, an indication that Yeos system has still been effective. But top off-season acquisition Thomas Vanek has been passive with the puck, with only seven goals so far, and the power play is the sixth-worst in the league.Im confident in what were capable of, but we have to better. So Im not going to just sit around and hope that things are going to be better, Yeo said. We have to find a way to be better. We have to find a way to bring more to the rink every day.Yeo erupted during a lethargic practice last week, resulting in dozens of expletives and a snapped stick before he skated off early. Players said afterward they deserved it, but theyve lost all three games since then. At some point, the message might be irretrievably lost.Theres really not much more of a message than start winning, Parise said. Le Veon Bell Steelers Jersey . VANCOUVER -- Vancouver showed Mr. Hockey the love Thursday. On a day when his health was a hot topic, Gordie Howe drew a standing ovation at a Canucks game and had stars like singer Michael Buble bubbling at an earlier Vancouver Giants event in Howes honour. Howe, watching his Detroit Red Wings play the Canucks, received a standing ovation from the sellout crowd of 18,890 during the second period when he was introduced by the public address announcer. Standing in Scotiabanks corporate suite, Howe waved to the crowd and soaked up the adoration as he was shown on the scoreboards giant video screen. Howe spent the game in the suite kibitzing with players who will take part in an upcoming Scotiabank Pro-Am fundraising tournament in Vancouver in October. He also hammed it up for a photographer, showing off a ring that commemorates his Stanley Cup wins. Son Marty Howe said the ring was made specially for his dad because, unlike today, jewellery was not awarded to players on Stanley Cup-winning teams during Gordies heyday with the Wings. Ealrier in the day, guests ranging from former NHLers to future ones savoured a visit from 83-year-old Gordie for the unveiling of a special Vancouver Giants jersey in his honour. The WHL club, of which Gordie is a minority owner, will wear the jersey Friday in a game against the Kamloops Blazers. "It always inspires others to see how he carries himself," said Buble, also a Giants minority owner. "Hes out here doing a chat with all these kids and he just threw a rubber puck on the ice. . . .. Its a lot of fun to be able to watch him." Gordie did not speak to reporters as he socialized with club owners, players and guests and posed for team pictures. He attended the ceremony prior to helping promote the Scotiabank Pro-Am charitable hockey tournament featuring amateur hockey players and NHLers, who are drafted to teams in return for donations. Launched in 2004, the tournament spans four cities across the country (Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver) and has raised more than $16 million for care and research in Alzheimers disease and related dementias. "Hes such an inspiration to the (players)," said Giants majority owner Ron Toigo, a close friend. "Most of the guys have no idea who hes talking about from that era he was in. But (their) parents know and their grandparents know, and they still have the ultimate respect for who he is and what he means to the game." Toigo, who is helping to create a Vancouver chapter for the Scotiabank Pro-Am, said Howes story has raised awareness of mental illness. Howes wife Colleen died of Picks Disease in 2009 and Howe is dealing with a mild form of dementia. Senquez Golson Steelers Jersey . The former light heavyweight champion dominated a tentative and powerless Lucian Bute en route to a unanimous decision victory on Saturday night in the clash of former world title holders from Montreal. The result disappointed many among the 20,479 at the Bell Centre, whose competing chants appeared to favour Bute by about a two-to-one margin. But the match billed as the biggest ever between two Canadians, which reportedly paid each fighter $2 million, belonged to 31-year-old Pascal from the outset. "Ive waited seven years for this," said Pascal (29-2-1). "When I go into the ring, I want to dominate. "That was my game plan — dominate all the time. Go in and out. To be vicious, active, explosive, and thats what I did from start to finish." The three judges agreed, giving scores of 117-110, 117-111 and 116-112. The Canadian Press gave Pascal every round except the 12th, when he backed into a corner and let Bute (31-2) swing away in a last gasp attempt for a knockout. Pascal took Butes minor NABF title and something called the WBC diamond belt, but more importantly, he settled who was best between the two fighters who rose to the top together in the same city without ever facing one another. It turned into a dud of a fight, with Bute often looking confused and unwilling to go on attack. "Jean Pascal was the better fighter and deserved to win," the 33-year-old Bute said. "Why I let the fight go like that I dont know. "Ill have to go over the fight many times with my team." If there is a silver lining for the Romanian-born Bute, it was that he stayed on his feet and his chin held up despite repeated blows from Pascal. His chin has been a concern since May 2012, when his five-year reign as IBF super-middleweight champion came to an end in a crushing loss in only five rounds to Carl Froch in England. Suddenly, a fighter who had always taken command in the ring looked fragile, and complaints that his record had been built against B-level opponents looked plausible. But after losing to Pascal, he made it clear his career is not finished. He even told the crowd he wants a rematch. "Its for you to say if I have a chin or not," he said. "I took a lot of punches and I didnt go down." He came out of it with a badly swollen left eye, and his nose was cut open in the 10th round. Pascal certainly surprised him. Instead of his usual all-out aggression in the early rounds, Pascal elected to hold back, counter with sharp rights when the southpaw Bute fired a shot, and then launch into quick-strike attacks near the end to make sure he won the rounds. He did it over and over and Bute never seemed to find an answer. "I followed my game plan to the letter," said Pascal. Pascal was on the rebound from losing his WBC light heavyweight belt in 2011 to wily veteran Bernard Hopkins, who waited as he blew himself out early and then dominated the later rounds. This time, Pascal added new blood to his entourage, including his boyhood idol Roy Jones Jr., and came back as a smarter fighter, although hhe still throws a lot of wild punches.dddddddddddd He felt the bout was one-sided because of his tactics and execution and not, despite appearances, because Bute is still gun-shy from the Froch fight. Pascal expects to face another opponents before considering a rematch with Bute, but who that will be in a mystery. His contract with promoter Yvon Michel ended with the Bute bout, although he may re-sign and wants to stay in Montreal. While Pascal and Bute were recovering from their setbacks and fighting sparingly in the last two years, another Montreal fighter Adonis Stevenson jumped in to take the light heavyweight belt. A Pascal-Stevenson bout is unlikely for at least a year, his camp said. In the co-feature, heavyweights Mike Perez and Carlos Takam fought to a 10-round majority draw. The crowd booed as Perez (20-0-1) and Takam (28-1-1) spent most of the bout with their heads locked together, trading short range blows to the head and body. The southpaw Perez suffered a cut from a headbutt in the third round that hampered his performance. The Frenchman Takams best moment was late in the sixth when he rocked Perez with a right. Ringside judges scored it 96-94, 95-95 and 95-95. Perez, a Cuban living in Ireland, had Mago written on his trunks in honour of Russian Magomed Abdusalamov, whose career he ended with a 10-round victory on Nov. 2 in New York. Abdusalamov spent a month after the bout in an enduced coma and remains in a rehab centre unable to walk or talk. Eleider Alvarez (14-0) of Montreal was supposed to be in the co-feature against veteran Thomas Oosthuisen, but the South African pulled out with an injury. His replacement, Ottawas Andrew Gardiner (10-1), put on a gutsy show, winning some of the middle rounds, until he was stung at the end of the eighth and the gifted Colombian took back control. Alvarez got the decision 99-91, 96-93 and 97-93. At the end, the crowd cheered Gardiner and booed Alvarez, who had refused to touch gloves with his opponent after the bout after something was said to him from Gardiners corner. Welterweight Mikael Zewski (23-0) of Trois-Rivieres, Que., had a tough opponent in Krzysztof Szot (18-10-1) in that the Polish fighter had never been stopped or even knocked down. This time, Szot went down in the fifth and twice more in the seventh before the ref stopped the bout. Light middleweight Yves Ulysse (1-0) of Montreal showed his speed and attacking style as he won his pro debut by stopping Vango Tsirimokos (6-4) of Belgium in four rounds. Bantamweight Sebastien Gauthier (22-4-1) of St-Jerome, Que. battled to a majority draw with Javier Franco (20-11-3) of Mexico. Montreal-based Russian light heavyweight Artur Beterbiev (4-0) stopped French southpaw Gabriel Lecrosnier (16-26-3) in four rounds, and Colombian heavyweight Oscar Rivas (13-0) stopped lefty Shawn Cox of Trinidad (16-5) in three. Notes _ Lightweight Tony Luis (17-2) of Cornwall, Ont., was knocked down in the first round and went on to lose a 10-round unanimous decision to Ivan Redkach (16-0) of Ukraine on Friday night in Memphis. Scores were 99-90, 97-92 and 97-93. "I thought it was a much, much closer fight," said Luis. NFL Jerseys Cheap China Jerseys Cheap Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Jerseys NFL Cheap ' ' '

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Drew Pomeranz may have found his niche as a starting pitcher. Pomeranz won his third consecutive start since moving from the bullpen into the rotation, Coco Crisp drove in two runs before departing with an injury, and the surging Oakland Athletics beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-0 on Tuesday night. Pomeranz (4-1) allowed three hits, two walks and had three strikeouts over five innings. He has not given up a run in his three starts, all of which lasted five innings. "My three starts have been a great team effort," Pomeranz said. "We scored a lot of runs and the bullpen shut them down." Sean Doolittle, the third Oakland reliever, pitched the ninth for his third save and complete a four-hitter. After the game, Oakland manager Bob Melvin said there is a good chance Doolittle will take over the closers role. "Its pretty cool," Doolittle said. Doolittle did see his streak of 30 straight appearances without allowing a walk end when Ryan Hanigan drew one with two outs in the ninth. Former Baltimore closer Jim Johnson, acquired by Oakland from the Orioles in December, has allowed seven runs in 4 1-3 innings over his past six appearances. Crisp hit a two-run double and John Jaso had an RBI single off Jake Odorizzi (2-4) as Oakland took a 3-0 lead in the second. The AL West-leading Athletics have won 10 of 11, outscoring their opponents 74-18 over the stretch. "You dont do that by swinging at bad pitches," Odorizzi said. Crisp was replaced defensively by Craig Gentry in the bottom of the sixth because of neck soreness. He had started four straight games after missing seven with a neck strain. Melvin expects Crisp to sit out Wednesday nights game. Odorizzi gave up three runs, four hits, five walks and struck out eight in 4 2-3 innings. The Rays (19-27) are eight games under .500 for the first time since the end of the 2007 season (66-96), which was their final season as the Devil Rays. "Never say it cant get any worse because whenever you utter those words, youre going to find it out," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said. "Im looking more for the turning point. You never know how close you are to turning negative momentum to positive." Pomeranz worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the third by getting a double play grounder from Desmond Jennings on a 3-2 pitch. Jennings also hit into an inning-ending double play with two on in the eighth. "Those double pays are huge," Pomeranz said. Maddon challenged the very close out call on Jennings at first base in the third, which the umpires ruled would stand after a review that took 1 minute, 23 seconds. Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca! Hi Kerry, In Tuesdays game between the Canucks and the Islanders, Zack Kassian scored a goal that was disallowed as it was deemed goaltender interference. The two referees had a meeting and they came back with no goal. Clearly it was not goalie interference and the replay clearly showed it wasnt. My question is: is the play reviewable or not? I think it is. Gary Nelless -- Gary: I beg to differ with you — goaltender interference was CLEARLY committed when Zack Kassian bumped his Canuck teammate Mike Santorelli into (and onto) Evgeni Nabokov in the blue paint before depositing the puck past the felled Islander goalie. Goalie interference was so obvious on this play it should have been a no-brainer for the referee, even from his position deep in the corner, to have immediately waved the goal off. As you watch this play keep in mind the wording of rule 69.3 (If an attacking player initiates contact with a goalkeeper, incidental or otherwise, while the goalkeeper is in his goal crease, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed.) At the present time Rule 69—Interference on the Goalkeeper is not reviewable. The fact that the Referee did signal a good goal by pointing at the net resulted in a check and balance procedure that followed to quickly and correctly overturn the initial call. A conference between the Officials is required when contact/interference with the goalie has taken place or is suspected to have occurred by at least one member of the crew. On this play at least one (but most likely all) of the other Officials witnessed the interference on Nabokov and a conference was initiated to report their version of the play to the Referee that was allowing the goal. After a very brief consultation between the four officials an announcement was quickly made to disallow the goal based on incidental contact with the goalkeeper. The contact was truly incidental in nature and no penalty was deserved other than the goal being disallowed. The procedure was followed to the letter and rendered the correct decision. In this case it was an easy call to make from any of the sightlines the crew had (save and except for one perhaps). Very seldom are they this clear cut as multiple players crash the net or when a defensive player initiates contact that propels an attacker into the goal crease. It is without a doubt the most difficult call for a referee and his colleagues to get right. For these reasons I have consistently stated that the Referees on the ice should personally have the advantage of reviewing the play (video review) from a monitor placed at ice level in a secured position. Refs are paid to make this call on the ice so allow them every advantage to ultimately make it correctly. Only if they are allowed to review the play will they have the same opportunity that the rest of us have to determine if and how goalkeeper interference took place. Games are won and lost with the scoring of dirty goals. This will continue, even with the checks and balance procedure in place, until the Referees are allowed to utilize video review in this specialized situation. Its a no-brainer! It was still not clear when he might make his decision. Thursday was a holiday in Rio.The course, estimated by local media to be about 70 per cent done, is being cut out of a nature reserve in western Rio near the main cluster of venues for the Olympics and is part of a complex of luxury apartments selling for $3 million to $7 million.Prosecutors have argued the environment must be the primary concern — not the Olympics.Even the eventual possibility of not fulfilling the deals and contracts with the Olympic committee must not supersede the need to preserve the environment, the legal brief said. Breaking the contracts will only bring about eventual fines while the environmental damage, through the destruction of an important ecosystem, will never be repaired.Golf is returning to the Olympics after a 112-year absence. The sport was to be a centerpiece in Rio, but the course has faced numerous delays and legal challenges.dddddddddddd Some critics have suggested the project is more about a real estate development than a golf course.Prosecutors allege the environmental licensing process was riddled with errors. In the brief, they ask the judge to suspend the license, which would bring construction to a halt.Construction workers have been putting down grass for months, hoping to have the work finished as the South American summer growing season begins. Officials say the course needs two full growing seasons to be playable at a top level. The defendants in the case — the city of Rio and the golf course developer — have insisted any legal impediments to the courses construction could harm the Olympics, Rio, and the citys international reputation. The prosecutors rejected a proposal by the city and the developer to modify the course design to limit its environmental impact, saying the proposed changes were too little, too late. The public prosecutors office did not accept the proposed deal because ... the defendants did nothing more than adapt the environment to the (golf course) project and not the project to the environment, as it should be, the prosecutors wrote.___Follow Jenny Barchfield on Twitter @jennybarchfield___Stephen Wade on Twitter: http://twitter.com/StephenWadeAP NFL Jerseys Cheap China Jerseys Cheap Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Jerseys NFL Cheap ' ' '

MILWAUKEE -- Lyle Overbays aggressive approach with the bases loaded in the ninth inning paid off for the Milwaukee Brewers. The veteran left-handed hitter had struck out two innings earlier on a steady diet of pitches down and away in the zone. Overbay was determined not to let the Cincinnati Reds do that to him again, especially with the game on the line. Overbays game-ending RBI single off the first pitch from Jumbo Diaz with one out lifted Milwaukee to a 3-2 win Friday night that helped the Brewers keep pace in the National League playoff race. The Brewers won their third straight to stay 1 1/2 games back of Pittsburgh for the second NL wild card. "I wanted to make sure I didnt miss it," Overbay said when asked if he was looking to hit the first pitch. "The at-bat before I was a little tentative and they were pounding me low and away." The pitch from Diaz (0-1) was down, but more in the middle of the zone. Overbay squared up and went the opposite way to the gap in left-centre, allowing pinch-runner Logan Schafer to jog home with the winning run. Overbay made the Reds pay for intentionally walking Ryan Braun and Gerardo Parra to get to him. "We were just trying to get a ground ball, forceout at home plate and trying to get a double play," Reds catcher Brayan Pena said. "It was meant to be down, outside, but he got a pretty good swing on it and they won the game." Teammates mobbed Overbay as he rounded first base. The crowd celebrated by putting two arms up to form a circle in the shape of an "O" for Overbay. "That was one of the coolest things in a while, since I actually looked up and saw it," Overbay said. "That was pretty cool." MILESTONE Jonathan Lucroy had a leadoff double in the ninth for Milwaukee. It was his 44th double as a catcher this season, tying the National League record set last year by St. Louis Yadier Molina. NERVOUS NINTH Cincinnati had a chance to go in front in the top of the ninth against Francisco Rodriguez (5-5). Brandon Phillips led off with a four-pitch walk and made it to third on a sacrifice and groundout. After Zack Cozart walked, pinch-hitter Jack Hannahan struck out looking on a 3-2 fastball. Hannahan was so unhappy with the call that he had to be restrained by manager Bryan Price. Hannahan ended up getting ejected by home plate umpire Dan Iassogna. It only got worse for Cincinnati, which had won three in a row. SPOT START Cincinnati wasted a surprising outing by spot starter Daniel Corcino, who allowed just two hits and two runs in six innings. He filled in for the injured Mat Latos. Corcino even got his first big league hit on a single in the third. He was told Thursday he might be needed to start against Milwaukee. "As soon as I get to the mound I forgot about everything. You know, youve got to do the job," Corcino said. TRAINERS ROOM Reds: Latos was a late scratch with a bone bruise in his right elbow. The right-hander missed the first 2 1/2 months of the season with right elbow and left knee injuries. Price said Corcino would replace Latos again if he cant make his next start. Brewers: LF Khris Davis was out of the starting lineup for a second straight day with right forearm tightness. Davis, who has a team-high 22 homers, will likely start on Saturday, manager Ron Roenicke said. UP NEXT: Reds: LHP David Holmberg (0-1) threw 5 2-3 scoreless innings on Monday after replacing injured starter Dylan Axelrod. Now, Holmberg gets the start Saturday for his first career appearance against Milwaukee. Brewers: RHP Yovani Gallardo (8-9) will try to snap out of a tough stretch after going 0-3 with a 5.95 ERA in his last four starts. ------ Nike Air Max 90 Heren Goedkoop . - New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has long been a fan of trick plays. Indiana led 56-48 at halftime, then took control after the break. Hibbert blocked a shot by Garnett, then Collison drained a three-pointer at the other end to give the Pacers a 67-54 lead and force Boston to call timeout. Pierce hit a three-pointer right out of the timeout, but Indiana quickly reasserted itself. A 6-0 run, including a jumper and a fast-break layup by Collison, helped Indiana takke a 75-60 lead.dddddddddddd Collisons baskets were part of a 9-0 run by the Pacers during which they held the Celtics scoreless for five minutes. Collison scored 11 points in the third quarter to help Indiana take an 82-67 lead. The Pacers held the Celtics to 7-for-22 shooting in the period. Indiana never looked back. San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Kansas City Royals took a 4-2 lead over the San Francisco Giants in Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday night by patching together a rally that probably should never have been. The Royals have won two in a row to take a 2-1 lead in the series and sent Jason Vargas to the mound against Ryan Vogelsong. The Giants scratched out the first run after Gregor Blanco drew a leadoff walk in the first inning, went to second base on a wild pitch, stole third and scored when Hunter Pence beat a throw to first to break up a double play. But the Royals can manufacture runs, too, and got a little help doing so in the third. They beat out two throws to spark a two-out, four-run rally in the inning that was punctuated by run-scoring singles from Omar Infante and Salvador Perez. First, Lorenzo Cain legged out an infield single to short that moved Alex Gordon to third. Then, Gordon scored when Eric Hosmer beat Vogelsong to the base on his slow grounder. Vogelsong, who initially tried to field the ball off the mound to his left, was several feet away from the bag when he caught first baseman Brandon Belts throw. Mike Moustakas walked to load the bases and Infante delivered a two-run hit up the middle. Perez followed with a line drive to center that scored another run, giving the Royals a 4-1 lead and chasing Vogelsong from the game. Matt Duffy hit a pinch-hit single to lead off the bottom of the third inning and later scored from second base on Buster Poseys single to left field to draw the Giants within 4-2. cheap nfl jerseys . Each week, the NHL on TSN panel voices its opinions on the hot topics of the day in the Wednesday Night Hockey Quiz. As a follow-up, TSN.ca offers you the opportunity to chime in on all the big issues with our insiders. Read up on all the questions and answers, and put in your own two cents on our popular Your Call feature. Which of the following over-wrought headlines represents the most fascinating playoff storyline - Death of home-ice, death of goalie interference, or death of penalty-killing? Marc Crawford: I think its the death of home-ice advantage and I think why its happening is because you have so many under-achieving regular-season teams that get their act together in the playoffs. You look at the Los Angeles Kings and you look at the Washington Capitals - two prime examples of teams that have finally gotten it together. Aaron Ward: Death of the penalty kill! Calling the penalty kills in the playoffs right now is not even doing it justice. Youve got scores of 10-3 and 8-4 - these are scores synonymous with football games and in the series alone between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, the Penguins success rate of 33 percent is put to shame by the Flyers success rate of 55 percent. Special teams are abysmal. Darren Dreger: Im going to say death of goalie interference, and its all based on sensitivity to goalie contact. We knew that coming in, and Im a little surprised that the numbers are as low as they are; only five compared to 10 last year. Weve seen one suspension - Andrew Shaw - and I thought the numbers would go up. Either-Or: Which playoff mighty mite would you most want on your post-season team - Danny Briere or Andy McDonald? Dreger: Im going with Danny Briere and its based on his points. Hes a point-per-game playoff performer and hes always clutch in tight. 103 points in 102 playoff games with 46 goals; thats enough for me. Crawford: Im going with St. Louis Andy McDonald. He was a key performer for the Anaheim Ducks and their rise to the Stanley Cup and hes a key performer for the Blues. What he does well is gets to the critical areas at the net and he reminds me of a modern day André Richard; a little guy with a big heart. Ward: Briere! He reaches 100 points in 100 playoff games and leaves a lasting impression. Hes a consistent performer through the playoffs but as an asterisks; hes a minus six in the post-season. Which of the traditional western powerhouses is worst positioned for the future - Chicago, Detroit or San Jose? Ward: San Jose. Its a team on the decline that is aging and the window is closing. At this point, I smell a shakeup in the offseason for them. Dreger: I agree with Aaron Ward. The core of their team is under contract for next season and a few more years after that for some. Crawford: San Jose! Im tired of answering the question of why Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau arent performing at the level they need to. Which former Hartford Whaler would you most want behind the bench ... or between them - Kevin Dineen, Joel Quenneville, Dave Tippett or Ray Ferraro? Crawford: Coach Q, Joel Quenneville. Hes the coach with the best vision behind the bench and I just think he makes all the right moves. Dreger: Im going with Dave Tippett, a proud Saskatchewan boy - that should be enough to sell it right there. Hes a fiery competitor and finds a way to get his Coyotes team in the playoffs, even though the cards are seemingly against this organization. Hes a good coach and he finds a way. Ward: Ferraro! That little ball of hate has been through the battle whos been through the battle. Obviously, a great vantage point but sets a good example for all of us at TSN. The 29-year-old middleweight from New York City broke his toe in the first round against Brazils Thiago Santos on Saturday night.Diar DeRozan is only nine months old, but she is already helping her NBA all-star father DeMar grow as a person and a basketball player. The Toronto Raptors guard, who will represent the Eastern Conference at the All-Star Game in New Orleans on Sunday, says he doesnt complain in the face of adversity "because I know this little girl is just happy for anything.""The suns coming up, shes happy," the 24-year-old said in a sit-down with TSNs Rod Black on Tuesday.DeRozan has not always been the fastest, strongest or most talented athlete dating back to his childhood in Compton, the one year of college he spent at USC, or his four-and-a-half years with Toronto. But he has always worked the hardest to get where he wants to be, for his personal happiness and his familys."(Family) shows you what lifes all about at the end of the day and thats why I work so hard," he said. "I do this for the enjoyment and the passion I have for the game and for my family. Everything else just comes with it."I just want to take advantage of every little moment I can, so at the end of the day when I look back I can say I laid it all out on the line and tried to be the best player I could be."If his numbers have anything to say about it, DeRozan is at his best. He is playing at career-high levels in points per game (22.2), assists (3.9), rebounds (4.6), steals (1.2) and three-point percentage (31.1 per cent). Whether he can fathom it or not, hes earned a place in the showcase of basketballs biggest stars."Its still hard to believe," he said. "Its something you always dream about it, buut once you really go through it, its hard to explain but its a blessing.dddddddddddd"Hes also dispelled any doubt surrounding the four-year, $40 million contract extension he signed in 2012. What hasnt changed is the humbling nature he credits to his mom and dad, Diane and Frank."Some people think (Im) kidding when I say it, but I really forget I signed a contract like that. I really dont pay attention to that," he said. "As long as my family is happy and Im doing what I love to do, everything else is just a plus," he said. And although Diar may not know it yet, her dad is telling the truth."My little girl … she gets whatever she wants when it comes to me."The Missing PieceOne thing that will be absent from the All-Star Game this weekend is DeRozans teammate Kyle Lowry. Lowry, who was left off the reserves list, is one of the main reasons for the Raptors resurgence to the top of the Atlantic Division. In 36 games dating back to the beginning of December, the Raptors starting point guard is averaging 17.8 points per game on 43.6 per cent shooting to go along with 7.7 assists."I really wish I couldve seen him make it too. I think it wouldve been good, not just for me, but for the whole city, just to have two guys to go out there and represent, he said. "You look at Kyle as being one of the best point guards in the Eastern Conference, by far, and I thought he shouldve made it."On the other hand, DeRozan doesnt think the exclusion will be a bad thing."One thing about him is hes going to prove his point in the second half of the season." wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '

MIAMI - The Colorado Rockies erased a two-run deficit in the early innings Tuesday. A second comeback bid fell short. Miami relievers retired three batters with the potential tying run in scoring position in the eighth inning, and the Marlins beat Colorado for the second night in a row, 4-3. A.J. Ramos struck out Nolan Arenado with runners at the corners to end the eighth, protecting a one-run lead. Steve Cishek converted his 30th consecutive save opportunity and first of the year by pitching a perfect ninth. "We didnt get the big hit late," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "Bottom line is we have to find a way to tie that game or take the lead." The Rockies trailed 4-2 before Michael Cuddyer and Carlos Gonzalez hit consecutive doubles to start the eighth. Troy Tulowitzki flied out, and Justin Morneau grounded out. Ramos came on to walk Wilin Rosario, and then struck out Arenado looking. Nathan Eovaldi pitched six innings and the Marlins made the most of five hits. Their 2-0 start hints at big improvement from last year, when they began 14-41 en route to a 100-loss season. For the Rockies, the 0-2 start seems like more of the same after they finished last in the NL West in 2013. Miamis rotation — the youngest in the majors — stifled the Rockies for the second game in a row. Eovaldi (1-0) allowed two runs and struck out six after Jose Fernandez limited Colorado to one run in the season opener. Eovaldi gave up six hits, walked one and reached 99 mph on the radar gun. The crowd of 15,906 made for a more subdued atmosphere than Mondays opener, which Miami won 10-1. Brett Anderson (0-1) pitched six innings and allowed four runs, three earned. It was the left-handers first start with the Rockies after he was acquired in a trade with Oakland in December. Miami went ahead for good in Andersons final inning. Reed Johnson pinch-hit for Eovaldi and led off with a double. He advanced on a groundout and scored when Stanton hit into a forceout. Stanton advanced on a throwing error by second baseman D.J. LeMahieu, stole third and scored on Casey McGehees two-out single. "There werent too many pitches that I would take back," Anderson said. "It didnt fall our way tonight. The outing, Ill take it. I felt I gave us a chance to win. We just came up a little short at the end." The Rockies tied the game in the fourth on a run-scoring double by Tulowitzki, a scratch single by Morneau and a sacrifice fly by Rosario. Newcomer Morneau had three hits. With the score 2-all, Anderson reached on a bloop double in the fifth for his first major league hit, but Eovaldi escaped by retiring Drew Stubbs and Cuddyer. "I got to second and I didnt know what to do after that," Anderson joked. NOTES: Tulowitzki went into the hole at shortstop to rob Marcell Ozuna of a hit on a grounder in the fifth. ... Rockies RHP Jordan Lyles will be activated to start Wednesday in place of RHP Tyler Chatwood, who is out with a left hamstring strain. RHP Henderson Alvarez will make his first start for the Marlins since throwing a no-hitter on the final day of the 2013 regular season. ... LAS VEGAS - Middleweight Chris (The Crippler) Leben has been banned for a year after testing positive for Oxycodone and Oxymorphone following his Nov. 5 loss to Mark (The Filipino Wrecking Machine) Munoz in the main event of UFC 138 in Birmingham, England. The 31-year-old Leben also failed a drug test the last time he fought in Birmingham, testing positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol following his main event loss to Michael (The Count) Bisping at UFC 89 in October 2008. That earned him a nine-month ban. "I like Chris and I want him to do well, but based on his actions, hes been suspended for one year," UFC president Dana White said in a statement. "If he needs professional help, we are going to be there for him. We want to see him succeed not only in the Octagon, but in his personal life." Leben (22- is a graduate of Season 1 of "The Ultimate Fighter" who has acknowledged he has faced demons in his personal life. The hard-headed 185-pounder spent time in a military jail for going AWL and later for a parole violation on an old DUI conviction. "I would like to make it known that I fully accept this suspension and apologize for embarrassing the UFC, my friends and family, and sport of mixed martial arts," Leben said. "Im learning that Im my own worst enemy sometimes. I cant succeed in the Octagon or in life behaving this way. "Ive got to make some real changes over the next year and Im going to focus on getting my life and career back on track." Leben is 4-2 since a loss to Jake Rosholt at UFC 102 in August 2009, saying later he weighed 215 pounds and was drunk less than three weeks before that bout. "I just was in a really bad spot in my life," said Leben, who makes his home in Hawaii. WASHINGTON -- The next time the Washington Capitals face the Carolina Hurricanes, they will know what to expect. Jeff Skinner, Justin Peters and Carolina caught Washington by surprise Tuesday night in a 4-1 victory that left the Capitals lamenting the attitude they brought into this Metropolitan Division matchup. Skinner had two goals and an assist and Peters stopped 26 shots for the Hurricanes, who had lost two straight and six of eight before bouncing back to match their most lopsided victory of the season. "Took the team too lightly, I think," Capitals defenceman Karl Alzner said. "We watched the video, saw how things were going, theyve got injuries, all that kind of stuff. Thats bad on us." Skinners two goals and three points both tied career highs. Now in his fourth NHL season, the 21-year-old Toronto native last scored two goals in a game in January 2013, against Buffalo. Skinner was playing in his seventh game after missing the previous 11 with an upper body injury. "He got off to a great start and then he got hurt," Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller said. "Now hes starting to get in the groove again. Hes a goal scorer, and if you give him a chance hes going to score." Being lucky doesnt hurt. Skinner gave Carolina a 1-0 lead at 10:21 of the first period on a shot from the right side that struck goaltender Braden Holtbys bent left leg and bounced into the net. "I think sometimes things just go your way," Skinner said. "The first goal, I just sort of tried to put it on net and it found a way in. Sometimes, thats just the way it goes." Skinner connected on a wrist shot from the left circle to make it 2-0 at 11:18 of the second period. Lesss than three minutes later, he got an assist on a power-play goal by Andrej Sekera.dddddddddddd. "Skins a really gifted player and he goes right to the hard areas," Peters said. "Tonight he got rewarded from playing within our system. Its great to see. Im happy for him." After Sekera scored, Jiri Tlusty connected less than a minute later for a 4-0 lead. Mike Greens long-awaited first goal of the season, with Washington on the power play at 6:39 of the third period, ruined Peters bid for his fourth career shutout. Two of the goaltenders three NHL shutouts are against the Capitals. "Theyve got a lot of firepower there," Peters said. "Green made a nice shot. Im just happy I was able to stick with it and get the win." Holtby was 4-2 with a 1.84 goals-against average in six career games against Carolina, but in this one he was pulled before the third period after yielding four goals on 23 shots. Two of Washingtons seven defeats at home this season have come against the Hurricanes. The loss ended the Capitals two-game winning streak. "I think every team goes through their highs and lows," Green said. "We have been very successful at going through streaks in the past, and thats maybe why it seems like we are so up and down." NOTES: Washington C Brooks Laich was scratched with a groin injury. ... Former Capitals star Alexander Semin missed an eighth straight game for Carolina with a concussion. ... Carolina is 9-0-1 when allowing two goals or fewer. ... Washington has scored 14 power-play goals in its last 16 games. ... RALEIGH, N.C. -- The previous time the Carolina Hurricanes had a month like this, a rare playoff appearance soon followed. The Hurricanes capped their first 10-win month since 2009 by beating the St. Louis Blues 3-1 on Friday night. Jeff Skinner scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, Alexander Semin added an empty-netter with 1:04 left and Nathan Gerbe scored on an early power play. Opening a four-game homestand that precedes the Olympic break, Carolina earned its fifth win in six games while staying in the mix in the crowded Metropolitan Division. "We want to have a good feeling going into the break and we want to sort of build off this win," Skinner said. David Backes scored on the power play for St. Louis. The Blues, who average 3.36 goals per game, missed a chance to pull even with Chicago atop the Central Division by losing just their fourth game against an Eastern Conference team. "Hard to find a lot of good players in our game today," St. Louis coach Ken Hitchcock said. "They deserve a lot of credit. They skated. They checked. They played hard. And we looked like we had the body language like we wanted an easier game. Didnt get it." Anton Khudobin stopped 26 shots for the Hurricanes. Jaroslav Halak made 28 saves in his fourth straight start, but had his four-game winning streak snapped. Khudobin stopped all 10 shots he faced in the third period, including a nifty leg save on Alex Pietrangelo with about 1 1/2 minutes left. And, he got some help from the goal post after two Blues -- Jaden Schwartz and Jay Bouwmeester -- each rang it in the final 2 minutes. "You need the post to be a goalies best friend," Carolina coach Kirk Muller said. Semin then tacked on his highlight-reel empty-net goal that capped the Hurricanes best month in a while. They went 10-4 in January, and their previous 10-win month in March 2009 led into their only playoff appearance since 2006, when they won their only Stanley Cup. Skinner put Carolina up 2-1 off a draw 1:51 into the second. After Jordan Staal won a faceoff, the puck found Skinners stick and he beat Halak with a wrist shot from the slot that clipped the goalies glove for his seventh goal of the month. "Didnt really mean to bank it off his glove and in," Skinner said. "You just try and get it to the net sometimes." That turned out to be enough support for Khudobin, who earned the decision in every game this month for Carolina. He helped the Hurricanes leapfrog idle Columbus and Philadelphia in the division standings, with 59 points. When the night started, only 11 points separated second place from the cellar in the Metropolitan. The Hurricanes never trailed on Friday, taking advantage of some sloppy play early by the Blues -- who were whistled for three penalties in the opening 11:25. Carolina went up 1-0 when Gerbe one-timed a slick cross-ice pass from Andrej Sekera 3:46 in. "The puck had moved, and there was an opening there and he found a soft area," Sekera said. "He was wide open, so I just tried to get it to him, and he did a pretty good job." The Blues, who have the leagues second-best power-play unit, tied it at 9:23 when Backes beat Khudobin high for his 150th career goal with St. Louis but just his second since Dec. 14. "Its nice to be back on the scoreboard but were more interested in winning," Backes said. "Tonight was a game where they brought a hard-skating, tough-checking game, and we didnt have a ton of answers for it." NOTES: St. Louis finished the month 9-5-0. ... The Blues entered with 37 points on the road, the second-best total in the league, but have not won in Raleigh since 2009. ... The star guard and the Lakers decided Monday on surgery, which typically requires several months of rehabilitation. The Lakers will announce a timetable for Bryants recovery after surgery, but coach Byron Scott anticipates losing the third-leading scorer in NBA history for the rest of the year.Kobe is probably not going to play again this season, Scott said.We all know how tough he is, Scott added after Mondays practice. Hes a trooper, so we pray for him that his return will be sooner rather than later. The 36-year-old Bryants torn rotator cuff is likely his third straight season-ending injury. He missed the 2013 playoffs with a torn Achilles tendon, and he played just six games last season before breaking a bone near his left knee. His famously resilient body has finally worn down from the accumulated grind of nearly two decades and several lengthy postseasons with the Lakers, including five NBA title runs. After returning at nearly full strength in training camp, Bryant sat out eight games to rest in the last month and played on a strict minutes limit. He still dealt with assorted aches and setbacks before he injured his shoulder.Bryant met with Neal ElAttrache of the Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic on Monday, determining his injurys extent and deciding on surgery. He is averaging 22.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists in 35 games this season, but shooting a career-worst 37.3 per cent in a wildly inconsistent season. The Lakers reacted to the news with disappointment and respect for Bryant, who was selected to the All-Star game for the 17th time last week.Kobe is a warrior, Lakers forward Carlos Boozer said. Hes strong, and hes going to attack rehab like he aalways has.ddddddddddddThe Lakers also discouraged speculation that Bryants career might be over. He is the NBAs highest-paid player at $23.5 million this season, and he is under contract for $25 million next year.I think hes done everything that you can possibly do in this league, and I think at times, we dont appreciate all the stuff that hes been able to accomplish, Scott said. I dont think we appreciate how tough he is, all the injuries and other things that hes played with, to be able to come back the way that hes come back. I dont see Kobe as the type of guy that wants to leave his legacy on (these) terms. I think he wants to go out on his own terms. Well just have to wait and see.The Lakers (12-33) are in the midst of another aimless season, losing eight straight heading into Tuesdays visit from Washington. The 16-time NBA champion franchise is almost certain to miss the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1976.The Lakers also owe a first-round draft pick to the Phoenix Suns to complete their disastrous trade for Steve Nash, who played just 65 games in the last three years and never suited up this season. But Los Angeles will keep the pick this summer if it lands in the top five, providing ample incentive for fans to hope the Lakers collapse is total.Bryant wasnt at the Lakers training complex Monday, and he didnt attend their loss to Houston on Sunday night. Scott plans to speak with Bryant throughout the week to see what hes thinking about his future, but he hopes Bryant isnt ready to quit. With the Achilles last year, everybody said he was done, Scott said. He came back and I think the first month of the season, he proved to everybody that he still has a lot left in the tank. I think he still has that hunger and that competitive nature to come out and prove it again. After the surgery, Ill talk to him and see how it is. Well talk and well go from there. wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys cheap nfl jerseys cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '

MINNEAPOLIS -- Every time the Minnesota Timberwolves rallied on Wednesday night, the Denver Nuggets were able make some baskets to cut short the comeback. Ty Lawson scored 23 points, reserve Nate Robinson added 15 and the Nuggets held off the Timberwolves 117-110. Kenneth Faried added 13 points and had three alley-oop dunks as Denver won for the seventh time in nine games after a horrible start to the season. "Were starting to get it. Were starting to build some momentum," Denver coach Brian Shaw said. Kevin Martin scored 29 for Minnesota and Ricky Rubio added 17 points and 10 assists. Nikola Pekovic had 21 points and Kevin Love finished with 19. Minnesotas bench was outscored 47-10 and was overmatched by Robinson and Denvers high-octane reserves. Eight different Nuggets players scored in double figures, including all five starters. "We just came in and allowed them to do whatever they wanted to do at the offensive end. We put up no resistance," Wolves coach Rick Adelman said as he got angry while at the postgame press conference podium. "Theres been all this talk about what kind of team we can be. I dont care about what people talk about or what it looks like on paper. Weve done nothing," Adelman added. "Right now, are you going to just give in?" Ignited by three 3-pointers from Robinson, the Nuggets built a 15-point lead early in the second quarter. Denver stayed hot and shot 63 per cent in the first half, taking a 64-55 lead into the locker room. "Nate came it and gave us a huge lift in the first half," Lawson said. "Thats what we need sometimes. Someone to just come in and take the game over." The Wolves hung around by hitting free throws -- Martin finished 11 of 11 from the line -- and cut Denvers lead to three after Loves dunk with 3:41 to play in the third. After Denver built its lead back up to 11 in the fourth, Love made a 3-pointer to cap a 10-0 run and pull the Wolves to within one with 3:58 to play. But Minnesota couldnt come up with a defensive stop to finish the rally and allowed Denver to regain control after three straight dunks. The Wolves wouldnt go away, though, and pulled within three after a dunk by Corey Brewer with 1:13 to play. Love missed a 3 that would have tied it on Minnesotas next possession and Lawson swished four free throws in the final minute to beat the Wolves back one last time. Every time the Wolves started coming back, the Nuggets were able to get a couple baskets and halt Minnesotas momentum. "We just need to play ... defence," Love said. Rubio didnt use the same salty language as Love, but he was just as upset about his teams defensive effort. "We havent done anything in this league. This team has the potential to do something, but we just have to commit to be a team on defence." Several Nuggets players said after the game that they knew they could score against Minnesota. Just two weeks ago, Denver also scored 117 in a win over the Wolves. "Theyre more of an offensive-minded team. We just wanted to come out and dominate them offensively," Faried said. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals had scored just eight runs during a four-game losing streak, and were preparing to face former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke and the power-packed Los Angeles Dodgers. Perfect time to end that slump, eh? Jeremy Guthrie pitched into the eighth inning, Jarrod Dyson drove in two runs off Greinke and the Royals held on to beat the Dodgers 5-3 on Monday night in their first meeting in nine years. "Dont ask me why we had success tonight," Royals manager Ned Yost said drily. Dyson, the Royals No. 9 hitter, went 3 for 3 and stole two bases. Salvador Perez hit a solo home run, and Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar -- two of the players acquired by the Royals in the trade that sent Greinke to Milwaukee in December 2010 -- drove in a run apiece. It was an offensive outburst considering the Royals had lost three of their last four games by 2-1 scores, squandering solid pitching performances by their starting rotation. "There was never any panic," said Guthrie, who gave up two runs and seven hits in 7 2-3 innings to win his third straight start. "We lost a couple of close games. We recognize a couple things go our way we would have won a couple of them." Greg Holland served up a homer to Adrian Gonzalez in the ninth before earning his 22nd save. Hanley Ramirez drove in the other two runs for the Dodgers, who are visiting Kansas City for the first time since they were swept in a three-game set in 2005. In his third start against his former team, Greinke (9-4) was battered for a season-high five runs and 11 hits in 5 2-3 innings. He had allowed two runs over 15 1-3 innings in his previous two starts against the Royals, one with the Brewers and the other with the Los Angeles Angels. "I thought he was OK," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "There were a few balls where you could see where he was trying to go one place and it didnt end up there. I know a couple of those were to Dyson. I think some of the balls were trying to get to a different part of the plate and didnt get there." The Royals pounded Greinke almost from the start, Perez belting the first pitcch of the second inning over the wall in left field for a 1-0 lead.dddddddddddd Then with two outs, Escobar singled and went to second on a wild pitch before heading home when Dyson dumped a single into left field. Dyson made it 3-0 in the fifth when he scored on Cains single to right. The Royals finally knocked Greinke from the game in the fifth, this time after Perez started the inning with a double. Greinke fought back to get two outs, but Escobar hit a triple into the right-field corner and Dyson tacked on another RBI single to make it 5-0. That hit ended Greinkes night. As he departed the mound, fans showered him with a chorus of boos, clearly recalling how the right-hander once demanded to be traded from their team. "I was pretty rude on the way out. They have every right to be mad at me," Greinke said. "Its been awhile. Its been four years, so its been awhile. Theyve moved on by now and so have I. At least team-wise. The fans might be different." Meanwhile, those same fans were waiting to give Guthrie a standing ovation. The right-hander faced the minimum number of hitters through four innings, needing just four pitches in the second and five in the fourth. Gonzalez and Matt Kemp finally hit consecutive singles to start the fifth, but Guthrie calmly wiggled out of that jam. It wasnt until Miguel Rojas and Justin Turner hit singles and Ramirez one-hopped a double over the outfield wall to make it 5-2 in the eighth that Guthrie finally left the game. Wade Davis finished the inning, and Holland cleaned up the ninth to preserve the win. "Its a funny game. You go against a guy like Zack Greinke whos had so much success this year," Yost said. "We strung some hits together along with some outstanding pitching weve had the last five or six starts, its a big win for us tonight."
