Its a game we wish we could have back

VANCOUVER -- Struggling Vancouver Canucks winger David Booth has no shortage of motivation to get his game back on track before the Stanley Cup playoffs. Booth will participate in the post-season for the first time in his six-year NHL career. He never made it in five full campaigns with the Florida Panthers. "Its something Ive been looking forward to for a long time," Booth said. "So I want to get a little confidence back and get rolling into the playoffs." He will get a chance Tuesday as the Western Conference-leading Canucks (41-21-9), who are tied for first overall in the NHL, host the Anaheim Ducks (33-35-11). Booth, who was acquired in an October trade that sent Mikael Samuelsson to Florida, has only participated in one playoff series as a professional, with Rochester of the American Hockey League in 2006-07. The sought-after chance to compete for the Stanley Cup came after he battled back from a career-threatening concussion that limited him to 28 games in 2009-10. He was also sidelined with a knee injury this season. But, lately, the 27-year-old Detroit native has been struggling with the mental challenge of trying to ramp up his performance at a time when he was winding down in previous seasons. Booth has no points in his past eight games. On Saturday, he was benched during the third period against Calgary after getting caught up ice as the Flames took a 2-1 lead in the first minute of the final frame. "Its definitely a mental challenge to bring it every night," he said. "Its a mental challenge of how to get over (the slump) and change from one bounce that usually goes in and doesnt, or one pass that usually comes on your stick and takes a bounce over. "Its just tough to come back. Your confidence starts to go a little bit. You start to question yourself. It gets frustrating when you dont play in certain situations. Then you dont think youre as good a player as you once thought, because youre not playing." The benching came after Booth was promoted to the first power-play unit a game earlier against Dallas. Booth is not the only forward on the second line who has been struggling lately. Ryan Kesler and Mason Raymond have also produced a dearth of offence. Kesler has gone nine games without a point after scoring in three straight games. Raymond, under constant criticism for inconsistent play most of the season, has gone four games without a point while shifting between the first and second lines. Raymonds dry spell has come following a stretch of three points in two games after he was a healthy scratch for the first time in his career. "Weve got to get better," Booth said. "Weve got to start producing. The second line, youre supposed to produce." But coach Alain Vigneault indicated he is willing to be patient with the trio. Vigneault noted he has put different linemates with Kesler lately. The moves have resulted in part because of Daniel Sedins concussion, which has kept him out for six games and counting. The Canucks have won every game without him. Vigneault said he said Keslers work ethic was beyond question, and instead attributed the lines difficulties to the normal ups and downs of the season. "Were still trying to work with him, and his linemates, on getting the offensive contribution," Vigneault said. "Were getting the hard work and were getting defensive responsibility. Its just a matter of time, I think, when elite athletes like that get their game to where they need it to be. So Im not overly concerned." Despite the benching, he expressed confidence that Booth can rebound as the playoffs approach. "In the last game, there were some moments that were good and some moments that were, maybe, a little more challenging," Vigneault said. "But hes a real good player for us, and we expect a good performance from him moving forward here." Booth has three games to turn things around before the playoffs. But he will have to try to maximize his performance against playoff also-rans -- presuming Vigneault does not choose to rest him. After meeting the Ducks, the Canucks play their final road game of the regular season Thursday in Calgary and then close out the campaign at home Saturday against Edmonton. In the meantime, Booth is relishing the chance to chase the Cup for the first time. "Thats going to be a great experience," he said. "Thats something you dont really know about until it happens. But Ill be proud to be a part of this team and keep going." <a href="http://www.wholesalejerseysbuy.us/">Wholesale Jerseys</a>.com) - George Fant picked up a game-best double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead Western Kentucky to a 72-65 win over No. <a href="http://www.wholesalejerseysbuy.us/">Wholesale Jerseys From China</a>. -- As Louisville strives to reach the high level of performance and consistency achieved by last years championship squad, the Cardinals also know that getting there will take time with a bunch of new faces. <a href="http://www.wholesalejerseysbuy.us/">http://www.wholesalejerseysbuy.us/</a>.com) - Robin Lehner made 35 saves, and the Ottawa Senators scored four goals in a 5 1/2 minute span in their 7-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday afternoon. <a href="http://www.wholesalejerseysbuy.us/">Jerseys Wholesale</a>. The club will try to build off its late effort in Fridays 4-3 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes. Ben Scrivens will get the start in net against the Predators, while Ales Hemsky (ankle injury) and Andrew Ference (head injury) will be out of the line-up. The Oilers allowed the Coyotes to score three times in a 4:02 span of the first period and trailed 4-0 at the three-minute mark of the second frame. Hendricks, though, found the back of the net in the middle period for his first goal with the Oilers, then David Perron and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored six minutes apart in the third period in a spirited comeback attempt. "We found a way to bring some energy and bring some life back to our game, but we got to try to do that for 60 minutes," said Nugent-Hopkins. Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 25 shots in defeat. He is 10-6-3 with a 2.41 GAA in 20 career games versus the Predators. His first start with the Oilers came against the Preds on Nov. 28 and he recorded a 33-save shutout. Ben Scrivens, acquired from Los Angeles the same day Devan Dubnyk was traded to the Predators, has lost both of his previous games against Nashville. Edmonton, which has won three of four and nine of its last 13 at home versus Nashville, is expected to be without defenseman Andrew Ference tonight after he left Fridays loss with a head injury. Winners in four of their previouus five games, the Predators got a career-high four goals from Eric Nystrom on Friday versus Calgary, but also saw the Flames score twice in the third period to tie the game before Nashville ultimately dropping a 5-4 decision in a shootout.dddddddddddd Defenseman Roman Josi scored as the second shooter in the third round to extend the tiebreaker, but Calgarys Sean Monahan beat Devan Dubnyk between the legs as the next skater and Ryan Ellis had his attempt stopped. Nashville has now split the first two of a four-game road trip despite Nystrom notching the first four-goal game in franchise history. He upped his season goal total to 11 and had never before scored more than two goals in a game. "It was just one of those nights. Its just frustrating that it was on the short end of the stick. Its a game we wish we could have back," said Nystrom, who was selected 10th overall by Calgary in the 2002 draft. "Its nice scoring goals, but not when its on the losing side." Dubnyk stopped 27 shots for the Predators and has allowed nine goals on 60 shots in two starts since being acquired from the Edmonton Oilers on Jan. 15 in exchange for forward Matt Hendricks. Selected 14th overall by the Oilers in the 2004 draft, Dubnyk was 11-17-2 with a 3.36 goals against average in 32 games (29 starts) with Edmonton this season before the trade. It is unknown if he will face his former club tonight or if rookie backup Carter Hutton will get the call instead. Hutton, who has never faced the Oilers, has won four straight starts, including all three since Dubnyk was acquired. <a href="http://www.cheapjerseyscustom.us.com/">cheap custom jerseys</a> <a href="http://www.wholesalejerseysstore.us/">wholesale jerseys store</a> <a href="http://www.cheapjerseysown.us/">cheap jerseys</a> <a href="http://www.cheapjerseysmarts.us/">Cheap Jerseys</a><a href="http://www.wholesalejerseyscc.us.com/">wholesale jerseys</a> ' ' '

Sidney Crosby is still the best hockey player in the world. Thats not by any means an outrageous statement and its one that not too many would disagree with, at all. As Crosby and his Pittsburgh Penguins prepare for Game 7 against the New York Rangers in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, there is one thing about the Pens captain, though, that is considerably less definitive. When it comes to crunch time, is Sidney Crosby still the first player you would turn to? To the northwest of Pittsburgh, in St. Paul, Minnesota to be exact, there is another captain playing tonight in a game that could see his team advance to the conference final, just as Sidney Crosbys Penguins can. In Game 6 of their Western Conference second-round series, the Chicago Blackhawks - led by Jonathan Toews - can advance to a second-straight Western Conference Final by defeating the Minnesota Wild as they continue their defence of the Stanley Cup. As a two-time Stanley Cup winner and a two-time Olympic gold medalist, has Toews taken over the mantle as hockeys preeminent go-to guy? The suggestion that Crosby wouldnt be the first player you would turn to in the clutch is by no means a referendum on his status as the games best. It isnt and the Hart Trophy hes likely going to win next month at the NHL Awards (to go along with the one he earned in 2007), confirming his status as the NHLs MVP cements that. Crosby is hockeys best all-around player and has been for some time. Still, the Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia native has recently disappeared when the chips are down. Going into tonights game, Crosby has just one goal in his past 17 playoff games (of course, Rick Nash is enduring that exact same streak of futility, but thats another discussion altogether) and the indelible image of Crosby in these playoffs, thus far, was his Game 6 spear of Dominic Moore. Conversely, Toews could be looking at another Conn Smythe Trophy if he can help lead the Blackhawks to a third Stanley Cup in five seasons. While Crosby languishes with a solitary marker in this years playoffs, Toews has five in 11 games - with four of them game-winning goals. Thats now 10 game-winning goals in his career, most in his teams history. Sure, thats a long ways away from Wayne Gretzky and Brett Hulls joint record of 24 career game-winning goals in the playoffs, but its four more than Crosbys tally in eight fewer career playoff games. Perhaps, even more telling about Toewss current status of big game-breaker is that Crosby, upon being informed that he was being named Canadas captain for Sochi, reportedly wanted Toewss blessing before accepting the C. So who would you rather have in an elimination/advancement game like tonight: Sidney Crosby or Jonathan Toews? As always, its Your Call. <a href="http://www.shoptheraidersonline.com/Elite-Ted-Hendricks-Raiders-Jersey/">Ted Hendricks Womens Jersey</a>. Dustin Brown said it felt unbelievable. PHOENIX -- When the Suns sent Luis Scola to the Indiana Pacers over the summer, the highlight of the trade for Phoenix seemingly was getting a first-round draft pick. Gerald Green and Miles Plumlee? Green had bounced around the NBA when he wasnt playing overseas. The Pacers gave up on Plumlee after just one season. Now Green and Plumlee are key cogs in the Suns surprising breakout season. Green hit six 3-pointers and scored 22 points, while Plumlee added 17 points and grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds Monday night in a 117-90 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. "When you get players from other teams that may not have gotten the chance they think they deserved, you get the best out of them," Suns forward Channing Frye said. "Thats what theyre doing." Plumlee, who played in just 14 games for the Pacers as a rookie a year ago, had his way inside with an ailing Pao Gasol in the Suns third straight win. Green, who has played for seven NBA teams, has hit 16 3s over the past three games. "These stretches that he gets on, I dont know if theres many guys in the league that can do that," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "We didnt anticipate that." Marcus Morris added 19 points on 5-of-6 shooting from 3-point range for Phoenix, which held a 62-39 edge on the boards in their eighth win in nine games. "Right now Phoenix is a better team than us," Lakers coach Mike DAntoni said, "especially in the condition we are in." Nick Young scored 19 points and Jodie Meeks 18 for the undermanned Lakers, who fell to 1-2 since Kobe Bryant was sidelined with a knee injury. Gasol, who sat out Saturdays loss to Golden State with an upper respiratory infection, started but had little energy as Plumlee scored on alley-oop dunks, post moves and putbacks. The second-year player from Duke hit 8 of 14 shots and blocked two shots as the surprising Suns moved to 17-10, their best start since 18-9 in 2009-10. "We dont know any different," Frye said of his young team. "We like winning." Gasol had 10 points and four rebounds in 20 minutes before he left the game for good midway through the third quarter after bumping heads with Plumlee. That opened a gash that left him bleeding from the corner of his right eye. It was that kind of night for the Lakers, who watched the Suns hit 14 3-pointers in their sixth loss in nine games. "Why would I be discouraged?" a testy DAntoni said. "We are fighting with a bunch of good guys that played well before and they will play again. If (the fans) are discouraged, then find another team to root for. We are not going to give up. "Are you kidding me? Discouraged? That is not even fair to these guys. Theyre going to fight." The Lakers only healthy point guard was ex-Sun Kendall Marshall, signed last week and who committed four turnovers in six minutes in his debut Saturday. He didnt play until the game was decided in the fourth quarter. The 6-foot-6 Xavier Henry again started at point guard with Steve Blake (elbow), Jordan Farmar (hamstring) and Steve Nash (back) all sidelined. Despite being outrebounded by Plumlee alone (9- and committing 10 fouls in the first quarter, the Lakers only trailed 28-24. Then the Suns got hot from the outside -- again. After hitting just 1 of 7 3-pointers in the first quarter, Phoenix drained seven of their first nine in the second, including four from Green as the Suns built a 62-46 lead. The Suns, who extended their team record of hitting at least seven 3s to 19 games, built a 24-point third-quarter lead behind Plumlees work inside and Greens from the perimeter. "Weve pretty much simplified it for them," Frye said. "Gerald, come of the screen and shoot the ball. Miles, come off a screen and dunk the ball. "Its pretty simple, and I think theyre growing inside those roles." NOTES: DAntoni is "optimistic" Farmar will return Wednesday vs. Miami. Farmar will meet with doctors Tuesday. . While Blake is still weeks from returning and wearing a brace on his right arm, hes been able to work on his opposite hand and said he can now consistently make free throws lefty. . About the only thing Plumee did wrong was air-ball a first-quarter free throw. Mauer finished his minor-league rehabilitation assignment by facing teammate Joe Nathan in a live batting practice session in Florida on Wednesday. He hasnt played for the Twins since April 12, plagued by weakness and soreness in his legs and throwing shoulder. Manager Ron Gardenhire said before Wednesdays game against the Chicago White Sox in Minnesota that Mauer will travel on Thursday and start at catcher on Friday against the San Diego Padres. "It was a lot longer than I had hoped," Mauer said after his workout. "But I got my work in, and I worked with a lot of great people down here. It was nice, but obviously I want to be up there in Minnesota and be up there playing. I feel like Im ready to get out of here." Mauer has played in only nine games this year because of his injuries, hitting just .235 with four RBIs in the first season of an US$184-million, eight-year contract extension. He had arthroscopic knee surgery in December and said last month that his body wasnt ready when the season started. Nathan said Mauer looked sharp. "I threw him some pretty good breaking balls," Nathan said. "Its really just impressive to see the pitches he can take when hes down 1-2 in the count. I threw him a couple of sliders. He put a good swing on them. Its nice to see him find his swing again and start to feel good again." Nathan pitched to Mauer and Twins prospect Miguel Sano at the teams spring training headquarters. Nathan has been on the disabled list since May 23 with soreness in his right foreearm, a condition related to his recovery from Tommy John surgery last year.dddddddddddd He struggled at the beginning of the season with a 7.63 earned-run average in 17 appearances, a not surprising slow start given that he missed all of last year with the elbow injury. "I took some time off to break up some scar tissue," Nathan said. "Ever since that, it has been night and day with how the ball has been coming out of my hand. The ball felt like it was coming out of my hand a lot better than what Ive been used to. I think Im starting to finish my pitches a lot better. Im seeing more life on the ball now." Nathan will also travel to Minnesota on Thursday and be re-evaluated by team doctors, but Gardenhire said he prefers the right-hander to pitch in triple-A for a few days before he rejoins the roster. "We want game situations. Therell be an argument. I think Ill win," the manager said. Mauer said Nathan looked more like the all-star closer he is used to catching. "He looked really good," Mauer said. "The ball was coming out of his hand. I got a lot out of it, just seeing the break on his pitches, how fast they were. You dont normally see that down here. Joe is one of the best pitchers in the game, and he looked good today." With shortstop Tsuyoshi Nishioka returning to the roster on Wednesday, the Twins are slowly moving closer to full strength. Left-hander Glen Perkins, the teams most effective reliever until he strained an oblique muscle on his right side last month, was travelling on Wednesday and could be taken off the disabled list on Friday.

SEATTLE -- Brad Evans made sure not to get too far ahead of himself -- and moments later it paid off. Evans blasted in a hard shot late in the 28th minute on Wednesday night, and Eddie Johnson added an insurance goal during second-half stoppage time to give the Seattle Sounders a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids in the MLS Western Conference knockout playoff game on Wednesday night. The No. 4 seeded Sounders (16-12-7) limped into the post-season on a seven-game winless streak, but advanced to face the No. 1 Portland Timbers in the two-leg, aggregate-goals West semifinals. The first game will be Saturday in Seattle. The No. 5-seeded Rapids finished the season 14-12-9. Colorado lost its last four road games of the year, all by shutout. Evans got his scoring chance when Colorados German Mera headed a cross out of the penalty area. Evans settled it at the top right of the box, took two dribbles in and ripped a hard shot to the back left corner. It was his fifth goal of the season and his second career playoff goal. "It was just the right place at the right time," Evans said. "In some cases, I tend to over-run things a little bit. But this time, I kind of held back and put the brakes on and waited for the play to develop a little bit. Thats why I was able to get in a good position and get a good touch and a good strike on goal." Evans previous post-season goal came in 2008 when he and Sounders coach Sigi Schmid helped Columbus win the MLS Cup before both migrated to the then-expansion Sounders in 2009. Johnson sealed it midway through the third of five minutes of stoppage time when he deked around Mera and beat Colorado goalkeeper Clint Irwin to the back left corner for his 10th goal of the year. The Sounders played the final three minutes of regulation and five minutes of stoppage time a man down after goalkeeper Michael Gspurning was red-carded for handling the ball outside the penalty area. Colorados Drew Moor had sent a long ball toward the box, and Gspurning was at least a yard outside when he reached out and caught it. "He wanted to come out and head the ball, and realized it bounced too high for him to head it," Schmid said. "He thought he had jumped back into the box, then caught the ball outside the box. The referee (Silviu Petrescu) decided it was a red card." Gspurning, facing a one-game suspension, will be replaced by former U.S. national team and English Premier League star Marcus Hahnemann for Saturdays first leg against Portland. Hahnemann played the final few minutes Wednesday. Seattle had not won since a 2-0 shutout against Real Salt Lake in Seattle on Sept. 13, going 0-4-3 in its final seven regular-season games. "For us to win a game is just a good feeling," Schmid said. "Its a win over a team that embarrassed us last time (5-1 in Colorado on Oct. 5). Its not just a win, its the way we played. I thought we played well. Its not where we were hanging on and scrapping to get by. From that standpoint, it means a little more than just a win." Colorados best chance came late in the 57th minute when Deshorn Brown sent a shot from just inside the box on the left side curling toward the far post. Gspurning came out to knock it away and preserve the shutout. "It was disappointing, but Im certainly proud of the boys for leaving it all out on the field," Moor said. "I wish we would have started off a little brighter. (It was) a playoff game -- its different. If we start the game the way we finish the second half, I think we give ourselves a little better chance." <a href="http://www.skotilbudonline.org/nike-free-5-0/nike-free-5-0-dame.html">Nike Free 5.0 Tilbud Dame</a>. 14 power play goals, 11 of them

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Rookie centre Stefen Wisniewski is trying to learn the Oakland Raiders offence without a playbook. And if thats not bizarre enough, the second-round draft pick from Penn State spent a couple of hours Thursday working with teammates at an indoor pool in suburban Atlanta. Such is life during the NFL lockout. "Its crazy. I havent even been out (to Oakland) because the lockout ended the day I was drafted," Wisniewski said. "So its a blessing that (quarterback) Jason (Campbell) has been here to go over the blocking schemes and stuff like that. Getting on the field has been great." Defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who lives in the metropolitan area, organized the mini-camp. Wisniewski would likely be working at the Raiders team headquarters in Alameda, Calif. -- alongside his uncle, assistant offensive line coach Steve Wisniewski. Now Stefan Wisniewski isnt even allowed to talk to him. "I havent tried to contact him and he hasnt tried to contact me," Stefen Wisniewski said. "Its weird, but this is a strange time in the NFL." Oakland linebacker Quentin Groves cant imagine what its like to be a rookie under these circumstances. No official mini-camp. No official offseason training activities. "It kind of takes away from the rookie experience with the vets yelling at you. Hey, rook. You got all that money. Now its time to show up," Groves said. "Now youre talking about these rookies just getting thrown into the fire. Mini-camp, OTAs -- those things give you a little bit of a chance to get adjusted to the speed of the game, but if you take that away, all you have is training camp. "And what if we dont have training camp? Theyll just get thrown out there on the field. Thatll be tough." About 25 players participated in the pool session, which was designed as a cross-training recovery workout after two days on the field and in the weight room. "Its just getting them moving, getting their heart rate up and then we finish off with the (heavy resistance rubber) band work," said Competitive Edge Sports founder Chip Smith, whos hosting the camp with Seymour. "Some of these guys cant swim. Thats OK. We put flotation devices on them, but hopefully we teach them a life skill." Wisniewski can swim, so thats no concern. Getting an understanding of the playbook is a different matter. Thats where Campbell comes in. After playing last year under offensive co-ordinator-turned-head coach Hue Jackson, Campbell knows whats expected of Wisniewski on the field. "I tried to go off some of the stuff Hue does in practice and some of the plays Ive run before that I know hes real high on," Campbell said. "Its just a way to introduce it to the young guys for the terminology but also to reintroduce to myself and the other veterans." Linebacker Kamerion Wimbley learned enough from the pool session that he plans to follow the off-season training patterns of Groves and Campbell and make water activities a weekly routine. "Its a total body workout," Wimbley said. "You work every muscle you can possibly think of. Your heart is pounding hard, and its a very strenuous cardiovascular workout. Theres everything tested in this workout." <a href="http://www.jerseysshoptimberwolvesonline.com/womens-kevin-martin-basketball-jersey/">Kevin Martin Swingman Jersey</a>. JOHNS, N.Colorado Avalanche 4 Winnipeg Jets 3 (Shootout) – With the loss the Jets have gone five straight home games without a win. They did however pick up a point in three of those five games. Jets record is now 14-14-5, their home record 7-7-4. The Jets got off to the start they wanted with Blake Wheeler scoring his eighth of the season 24 seconds into the game, with assists to Toby Enstrom and Bryan Little. Enstrom snapped an eight game pointless drought, while Little now has 21 points in his last 21 games and has points in 22 of the teams 33 games this season. After failing to score on a two man advantage, the Jets did get a power play goal from Michael Frolik to take a 2-0 lead 5:25 into the game. It was the first time in four tries this season that they did not score while up two men. For Frolik it was his eighth of the year and first power play goal of the season. He deflected a Jacob Trouba shot, giving him his first power play point and his first home point. Matt Duchene snapped a seven game goalless drought at 15:08, scoring his 13th to make it 2-1 after the first, despite the Jets outshooting the Avs 14-4. In the last three first periods the Jets have outshot the opposition 37-11. In 29 games Colorado had only given up 17 first period goals. The second period was a reversal with the Avalanche outshooting the Jets 14-4 and getting goals from Ryan OReilly and Duchene to take a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. Duchenes second of the night came with 2.6 seconds left in the period, on a play that he started in his own end by picking off a Jets pass and breaking out with Nathan MacKinnon. The Jets regrouped in the third period outshooting the Avs 13-5 and getting a power play goal from Wheeler to tie the game. Wheeler now has nine goals on the year and has scored four in the last five games after going 14 games without a goal. It was Wheelers 13th career two goal game. Grant Clitsome picked up his second assist of the night on the goal; Mark&nbbsp;Scheifele had the other assist.dddddddddddd It was the second time this season the Jets have scored two power play goals in the same game. Jets went to their sixth power play of the night at 14:10 of the third but could not find the go ahead goal. In the overtime period, the Jets had five shots to Colorados three. Both Semyon Varlamov and Ondrej Pavelec made some big saves in this game as at times both sides opened it up and traded chances. The game went to a short shootout. Devin Setoguchi failed to score, Duchene did, Andrew Ladd did not score, while PA Parenteau did and the game was over. It was the Jets 11th overtime game of the year (1-1 in overtime and 5-4 in shootouts.) The Jets close out the three game home stand Saturday afternoon against Dallas (TSN 1290). Wheeler led the way with six shots on goal; Little won nine of 13 face-offs, Dustin Byfuglien played 29:20. Trouba played 25:52 the second highest total of the season. Jets how have 14 power play goals, 11 of them scored at home. This from Blake Wheeler post game - "they took advantage of our mistakes. Weve been taking positives out of losses too long. We didnt do enough to win the game." Coach Claude Noel agreed. "Tough point to lose. We played really good in the first; we got the building involved with the two first goals, and then didnt do the same things in the second. We missed the net, didnt shoot very much. Again, its game management. Turnovers in our own zone. Then get out of the second period 2-2, regroup and away you go." The goal with 2.6 seconds made it 3-2 for Colorado a team that is now 18-0 when leading after two. "We came back in the third, our power play was good again," continued Coach Noel. "Then we get to the shootout and weve been on the good side and the bad side. Winning in the NHL is not an easy process. Were a .500 team and thats not good enough. In the conference we are in, its not even close." <a href="http://www.cheapjerseyscustom.us.com/">cheap custom jerseys</a> <a href="http://www.wholesalejerseysstore.us/">wholesale jerseys store</a> <a href="http://www.cheapjerseysown.us/">cheap jerseys</a> <a href="http://www.cheapjerseysmarts.us/">Cheap Jerseys</a><a href="http://www.wholesalejerseyscc.us.com/">wholesale jerseys</a> ' ' '

The Dubai Open on the Asian Touror his part, Carolina coach

Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hey Kerry, Thanks for your insight on some great situations! I dont always agree with your assessment but I appreciate it. My simple question is this; since when did goalie interference become a reviewable thing? During the Hawks-Kings game 1, Toews was driving the net, got a bounce off the skate of a d-man and the pucks goes in the net. As the puck is crossing the line, Toews gets a gentle nudge from said d-man falling onto Quick, even though he did everything but levitate to avoid him. Goal called good on-ice, Toronto calls no goal for goalie interference. While it didnt matter in the end, Id still love to understand better. Thanks! JasonHouston, TX ----- Hi Kerry, I would just like to have some clarification on this disallowed goal in the Los Angeles versus Chicago Western conference game #1. The call originally was called a goal. Then when reviewed they said that there was goalie interference. Isnt the rule you cant review goalie interference? And if they called it off because of goalie interference why was there not a penalty? Thanks,Jordan Pearson ----- Kerry, Can you tell me why Jonathan Toews spectacular goal on Jonathan Quick was disallowed in second period today? Theres no doubt there was contact, but Toews received a slight push in the back on the drive to the net. Even if there was a goal disallowed by contact, I thought that call had to be made by the on ice officials. It looked from the lengthy headset conference that the call was made by Toronto. What gives? Mike Kedzierski Jason, Jordan and Mike, I can understand your confusion once referee Marc Joannettes initial decision to allow Jonathan Toews goal was reversed following discussion with the other members of the officiating crew and then a rather lengthy teleconference with the Situation Room personnel in Toronto. The correct protocol was implemented by the on-ice officials to determine that Toews goal would be disallowed based on incidental contact with Jonathan Quick in the goal crease. The officials quickly gathered for a conference just 10 seconds after Joannette pointed into the net to signal the scoring of Toews goal. The conference (protocol) became necessary because the other officials had important information to share with Joannette on how and why the puck entered the net illegally from their perspective. This play was a classic case of incidental contact with the goalkeeper that should result in no goal and no penalty under Rule 69. Toews received a lead pass through a seam that required his abrupt hard left turn toward the crease for the Hawks captain to make a scoring attempt. Slava Voynov followed close behind in pursuit and used an active stick to separate Toews from the puck a split second before Quick, positioned fully within his blue paint, pushed his paddle toward the puck and made contact with Toews skates at the edge of the crease. In spite of the contact to his skates by Quicks goal stick, Toews was in too close and going too hard (momentum) to effectively stop or avoid contact with the goalkeeper, regardless of any effort to "levitate", Jason. Voynov placed his glove on the pants of Toews after the Hawk was in flight from contacting the goal stick with his skate. Toews made significant contact with Quick inside the crease, causing the goalkeeper to be knocked laterally and allowed the puck to enter the net off the skate of Voynov. Referee Joannette was unable to observe these developments and render an initial decision on the goalkeeper interference, based on his position deep behind the goal line and against the end boards on the opposite side of the goal as Toews was attacking the net. By the time the referee had curled to the other side, the contact had long since taken place and the puck was in the net. Both linesmen rushed to the referee following his point toward the net and as Toews got up off the ice to celebrate. I am firmly convinced the goal was disallowed in the subsequent conference of officials, held at the timekeepers bench, based on the accurate information provided by the other members of the crew to referee Joannette! The system then broke down and needless confusion was created when the referee picked up the headset and engaged in a lengthy conversation with the Situation Room personnel in Toronto that lasted over a minute; even though interference on the goalkeeper is not reviewable. Beyond protocol, it is mandatory that the referee take the call when the headset is passed through the hole in the glass at the timekeepers bench and when a disputed goal has been scored. All goals are reviewed and Hockey Operations does need to be kept informed, since they have to answer questions from irate general managers (and on occasion owners). That part is reasonable and should be expected. This unusual delay however gave Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville, game broadcasters, members of the media and you (the fans) an impression that the call was reversed through video review. That impression is understandable because none of you have ever been on the other end of that headset nor have you had the direct line ring in the officials dressing room between periods. Toronto wants to know every detail and control the process where they can. If they could referee the game from mission control, Im convinced they would. Since that is not yet an option the phone line is their best source to exert and maintain control. The nature of this particular conversation however, should have been very brief and controlled by the referee. Joannette should have informed the caller on the other end of the line that, "following a conference of the four officials, it was determined that incidental contact with goalkeeper Quick by Toews took place prior to the puck entering the net. We have NO GOAL and NO PENALTY on the play!" The ref should have then handed the headset through the hole in the glass, moved back from the side boards to his broadcast position, clicked on his microphone and made the exact same announcement to the hockey world that was waiting patiently for the referees decision. <a href="http://www.jerseyswholesalenflchina.us.com/Nike-Nfl-Jerseys-Cb-2_San-Diego-Chargers-Jersey-Ao-2/">Wholesale San Diego Chargers Jerseys</a>. The Angels have won six of their last seven games, putting them a half-game ahead of the Oakland Athletics in the division standings. You can watch the game live on TSN at 7pm et/4pm pt. Los Angeles dropped two of three at home to Boston from Aug. RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jeff Carter may never be a fan of having shootouts. Still, there is one scenario where he enjoys the format. "I like it when I score," Carter said. Carter was a happy man Friday night, scoring the shootout winner to lift the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Dwight King also scored for the Kings while Jonathan Quick made 27 saves. Jeff Skinner had Carolinas goal, and Cam Ward stopped 36 shots. Carter, who had scored four goals in his first four games of the season, went to his backhand in the shootout to beat Ward. Quick stopped Nathan Gerbe, Alexander Semin and Skinner in the shootout to make Carters goal hold up as the winner. "Hes a top-class goalie, and he showed it," King said of Quick. Ward, Carolinas No. 1 netminder, has yet to win a game this season -- both of the Hurricanes victories have come with back-up Anton Khudobin in net. King scored on a short-handed breakaway 13:26 into the third period, sliding the puck through Wards legs after Carolinas Justin Faulk turned the puck over near the Hurricanes blue line. Carolina tied the score 40 seconds later on the same power play when Skinner cleaned up a rebound off an Andrej Sekera shot from the point. Up until that sequence, there had been few scoring chances in the tight-checking affair. The Kings did pressure Ward in the opening minutes of the game, and the Hurricanes Eric Staal and Alexander Semiin misfired on a two-on-one opportunity in the second.dddddddddddd Otherwise, there wasnt much room to manoeuvr. "It wasnt 50 minutes of nothing -- it was a pretty good game," said Los Angeles coach Darryl Sutter. Los Angeles power play had some dangerous moments in the third period, but the unit couldnt beat Ward. The Kings also had a power play in overtime but couldnt generate many chances. Los Angeles came into the game having scored on 31.2 per cent of their man advantages this season. For his part, Carolina coach Kirk Muller was pleased with his teams effort. It was the first of 20 back-to-back games for the Hurricanes -- Carolina won 3-2 on Thursday night in Washington. "I think thats a game that shows our team is growing together," Muller said. "Obviously, we didnt get the extra point, but you know three (points) out of four -- thats pretty good." The Kings dominated in the faceoff circle, winning 69 per cent of the draws. Elias Lindholm, Carolinas first-round draft pick in the summer, suffered an upper-body injury in the second period and did not return. NOTES: Carolinas Staal played in his 695th NHL game for the Hurricanes, moving into fourth place on the franchises all-time list. . Quick was playing in his 291st NHL game but first against the Hurricanes. . PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed centre Fernando Velasco on injured reserve with a season-ending Achilles injury. Velasco injured the Achilles in Thursdays 22-20 loss to Baltimore. Velasco is the second centre to be lost for the season. Maurkice Pouncey tore the ACL in his right knee eight plays into the opener against Tennessee in September. The Steelers signed centre Eric Olsen and offensive tackle Rashad Butler to add depth to a depleted line. Olsen played in 16 games, with four starts, for the New Orleans Saints in 2012. He was released by the Saints in September. Butler has played in 50 games over the last seven seasons, most recently for the Cleveland Browns. To make room for Olsen and Butler, the Steelers released cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke. <a href="http://www.cheap-nhljerseys.us.com/">cheap jerseys</a>. -- The Packers franchise quarterback is taking a seat. <a href="http://www.cheap-nhljerseys.us.com/">jerseys from china</a>.com) - In their second game of the season, the 17th-ranked Connecticut Huskies take on the College of Charleston Cougars in the opening round of the 2014 Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Coliseo Roberto Clemente. <a href="http://www.cheap-nhljerseys.us.com/">http://www.cheap-nhljerseys.us.com/</a>. LOUIS - When the St. Louis Rams sent the second pick of the 2012 draft to Washington, they probably couldnt imagine owning that same slot in 2014. Thanks to Washingtons free fall last year, they do as the final payout from the Robert Griffin III trade. This is their last chance to capitalize. After draft day dealings last year, the Rams (7-9) landed explosive receiver Tavon Austin and outside linebacker Alec Ogletreee, who led the team in tackles.dddddddddddd They also have the 13th pick. Ideally, the move would again be parlaying the prime pick into more choices. That might be harder to pull off given uncertainty at the top of this draft, so they could end up addressing needs on the offensive line and taking Greg Robinson or Jake Matthews. NEW YORK -- Carmelo Anthony is unlikely to play Tuesday night in Brooklyn and could be done for the season, meaning he has potentially played his last game with the New York Knicks. Anthony was getting his sore right shoulder evaluated Tuesday morning and coach Mike Woodson says the Knicks leading scorer "probably wont" play against the Nets. The Knicks end their season at home Wednesday against Toronto. They hope to persuade the other team owners and commissioner Roger Goodell to put pressure on Redskins owner Daniel Snyder to drop the nickname they find offensive. "Given the way the meeting transpired," Ray Halbritter, an Oneida representative and leader of the "Change the Mascot Campaign," said Wednesday, "it became somewhat evident they were defending the continued use of the name. Of course, were disappointed." The Oneidas asked Goodell and Snyder to "visit our homelands," and sought an amendment to league bylaws to prohibit franchises from naming a team with any term that is a racial epithet. Halbritter says the dictionary defines the word redskins precisely that way. And Halbritters group asked Goodell to "use his power to bring Snyder before the league executive committee for possible sanctions" should the team continue to use the name. The NFL released a statement about the meeting, which Goodell did not attend. The NFL was represented by senior vice-president Adolpho Birch, and executive vice-presidents Jeff Pash and Paul Hicks. Pash is the leagues general counsel. "We met at the request of Ray Halbritter of the Oneida Nation," the statement said. "We listened and respectfully discussed the views of Mr. Halbritter, Oneida Nation Wolf Clan Representative Keller George and their colleagues as well as the sharply differing views of many other Native Americans and fans in general. The meeting was part of an ongoing dialogue to facilitate listening and learning, consistent with the commissioners comments earlier this year." Many of the Oneidaas requests were contained in a letter handed to the NFL representatives at the meeting.dddddddddddd Since President Barack Obama recently said he would "think about changing" the name if he owned the team, many fans have taken up the cause. And many more have rallied around a name they see as a tradition or a tribute. Halbritter sees it as offensive and demeaning. In a letter to Goodell, he said the Change the Mascot campaign sought to "finally halt the destruct effects of the R-word on our people and Native peoples everywhere. Additionally, as financial sponsors of the league, we are concerned that the leagues marketing of a racially derogatory term undermines the NFLs ability to be a unifying force in America." NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the Oneida Indian Nation is not a league sponsor. The Oneida Indian Nation sponsors the Bills and the Wisconsin tribe of the Oneida nation does have a sponsorship deal with the Packers. The Oneida Indian Nation, which has approximately 1,000 enrolled members, is one of 566 federally recognized sovereign Native American nations, according to the U.S. Department of the Interior/Indian Affairs. Also Wednesday, the San Francisco Chronicle said it will no longer use the term "Redskins" when referring to the team. Managing Editor Audrey Cooper said the newspapers style committee decided to eliminate the term because of a long-standing policy against using racial slurs. "Not everyone has to be personally offended by a word to make it a slur," Cooper said in a statement titled "A name unfit for print. Make no mistake, redskin is a patently racist term." The Chronicle joins several other publications that have made the same decision over the years, including the Kansas City Star, Slate.com, and the Portland Oregonian, which dropped the term more than two decades ago.

CALGARY -- Basketball players swept the Canadian university sport awards in keeping with the buzz the sport is creating in Canada. Nike Air Max 2015 Feather . Justine Colley of Saint Marys University and Carletons Philip Scrubb were named the BLG Award winners Monday as the top female and male athletes respectively in Canadian Interuniversity Sport. With the Toronto Raptors in the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2008 and Torontos Andrew Wiggins touted as a possible first overall pick in the NBA draft, Colley and Scrubb hope the momentum continues for hoops in Canada. "Theres a lot of excitement over basketball, which is pretty exciting since were a pretty hockey dominant country," Colley said. "I hope more people get out to games, support all the different teams across Canada, obviously support the Raptors and hopefully they make it all the way to the final. "Its amazing to see basketball starting to flourish in Canada." Colley and Scrubb were just the second basketball players to sweep the BLG Awards in its 22-year history. Windsors Jessica Clemencon and Carletons Tyson Hinz -- a Ravens teammate of Scrubbs for the past four seasons -- were the 2011 winners. "You see all the athletes down in the States playing in the NCAA tournament and the Raptors have finally made the playoffs and the CIS is really improving in terms of basketball as well, so I think people are starting to care a little bit more about basketball and theyre recognizing our talent up here," said Scrubb. Colley and Scrubb each received a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship. They were chosen by the Canadian Athletic Foundation, which administers the awards, from a group of eight finalists. Each nominee received a gold ring and a watch. Colley from East Preston, N.S., took home the Jim Thompson Trophy that goes to the top female athlete and became the first athlete from Saint Marys to win a BLG award. "Huge honour for not only myself, but also my university," the 22-year-old guard said. "Tons of support goes into Saint Marys athletics and not just Saint Marys, but throughout the whole Atlantic area." Other finalists for the Jim Thompson trophy were McGill hockey player Katia Clement-Heydra, York sprinter Khamica Bingham and University of British Columbia volleyball player Lisa Barclay. Scrubb, from Richmond, B.C., claimed the male athletes Doug Mitchell Trophy ahead of nominees Liam Heelis, a hockey player from Acadia, Bishops football player Jordan Heather and University of Saskatchewan hockey player Derek Hulak. Scrubb follows Hinz and Osvaldo Jeanty (2006) as BLG Award winners from Carleton. The Ravens captured their fourth straight CIS mens basketball title this year. "Coming in, I was young and didnt really know what was going on, but Ive learned from past teammates to be more unselfish and try and give back because theyve all done so much for me at Carleton," Scrubb said. "Overall, I think Ive improved as a person and obviously basketball has helped has well." Colley capped her fifth and final season as the all-time leading scorer in CIS womens basketball with 2,376 points. She scored 38 points in a semifinal win over Saskatchewan in the CIS championship en route to a silver medal for the Huskies. Colley also earned her second straight CIS female player-of-the-year award averaging 20.8 points per game. She was a finalist for the Jim Thompson trophy last year. "Her impact on our team and a basketball game go far beyond stats," Huskies coach Scott Munro said in a statement. "She is simply one of the best leaders I have ever been around. Her desire to compete and win separates her from any other student-athlete I have coached." Colley played last summer for the national womens team that qualified for the world championship Sept 27 to October 5 in Turkey. She wants to wear the Maple Leaf again at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. "Olympics are on every athletes radar," she said. "Next year, we would have to qualify for the Olympics on the national team and from there go on and play in Rio. Obviously I would love to be a part of that group." Scrubb, a fourth-year commerce student, led the Ravens in points with (18.6) and assists (4.9) per game as the Carleton went 33-1 versus CIS opponents. The six-foot-three guard was named the most valuable player in CIS mens basketball for the third time. When Carleton downed archrival Ottawa in the CIS final, the Ravens avenged their only loss of the season, which was to Ottawa in the OUA final. Scrubb, 21, intends to return to Carleton and win another national title with the Ravens. He was the only university player invited to the national mens team camp last summer. "His ability speaks for itself in his success," Carleton head coach Dave Smart said. "He is a humble and selfless individual regarding the team. He is an extremely good student, balancing his dedication to the team and sport with his academics." CFL football player and Olympic bobsledder Jesse Lumsden, Olympic womens hockey team goaltender Kim St. Pierre, Olympic heptathlete Jessica Zelinka and Olympic swimmer Curtis Myden are among previous recipients of the awards, which are sponsored by the law firm Borden Ladner Gervais. The Canadian Athletic Foundation that chooses the winners is a board of 21 business people from five Canadian cities. Doug Mitchell is chairman of that board. Student-athletes must compete in CIS sport a minimum of two years to be eligible and cant be a previous recipient of a BLG Award. New Balance 574 . - Stephen Curry figured it would happen eventually. TORONTO -- Tyler Bigg scored 10 seconds into the first period and Jerry DAmigo added another near the midway mark as the Toronto Marlies edged the streaking San Antonio Rampage 2-1 in American Hockey League action. Entering Saturday, the Rampage had won six straight and earned points in 16 of 17 games while spending the entire month of February on the road due to the Stock and Show Rodeo taking over the AT&T Center in San Antonio. "Statistically, what theyve been able to do on the road since theyve had an event in their building, theyve been fantastic," said Marlies coach Steve Spott. "We knew they were going to be hot. We knew we had to be good defensively today and we were." Bobby Butler had the lone goal for the Rampage at 15:04 of the third. The Marlies (30-17-4) improved to 4-2-0 on their current 10-game home stand, which continues Sunday against the Oklahoma City Barons, and swept the four-game season series with the Rampage (23-22-. Drew MacIntyre made 22 saves for his league-leading 23rd win of the season. Biggs scored 10 seconds in to the first period, jamming home a loose puck off a scrum in front of Rampage starter Michael Houser for his sixth of the season. "I think its a good story, when you look at the (Jerred) Smithson, Biggs and (Mike) Duco line, youre going head-to-head against Drew Shore, a very good player in this league and the National Hockey League," Spott said. New Balance 574 Mujer. "To get that early goal, especially from our checking line, I thought that was the bonus goal we were looking for and we were able to hold on for 60 minutes." DAmigo gave the Marlies a 2-0 lead at 10:24 of the opening period, beating Houser glove side for his 14th of the campaign. DAmigo, who was checked on the play and went into the boards heavily, came up favouring his left hand and went directly to the Marlies dressing room, but later returned. "(Spencer) Abbott seems to be finding me on those little breakaways there and Im just skating right into it," said DAmigo, who had his left hand wrapped in ice post-game. "Trying to just get the puck on net someway, somehow and I saw the glove open up and put it in." San Antonio defenceman Alex Petrovic was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for slashing on the play. "He hacked me down and you cant really stop yourself so you try to put your hands up to stop yourself and obviously it didnt work," added DAmigo of the play. Houser, who allowed two goals on nine shots, was replaced by Jacob Markstrom. He finished with 23 saves. Note: The Toronto Maple Leafs assigned forward Peter Holland to the Marlies on Saturday. Spott said Holland would centre the teams top line Sunday. MIAMI -- Jose Fernandez got booed for not running out a grounder, and felt a tiny twinge of disappointment about not getting a chance to finish off what could have been his first complete game. cheap jerseys from china . Everything else for the Miami Marlins young ace went perfectly once again Tuesday night. Fernandez allowed two hits in eight stellar innings, Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run homer and the Marlins opened a homestand by beating the Atlanta Braves 9-0 on Tuesday night. "Jose did a great job," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "We needed him to go out there and log some big innings, and thats back-to-back great starts against a great offensive team." Jarrod Saltalamacchia also homered for Miami, which had its third-highest run output of the season in a game that took just 2 hours, 7 minutes. It was the fastest one in the majors this season, according to STATS. Miami second baseman Ed Lucas had three hits in his season debut after recovering from a broken left hand, and Marcell Ozuna hit a two-run single for the Marlins. Fernandez (4-1) was dominant against the NL East leaders for the second time in a week, lowering his ERA to 1.59. He struck out eight and walked two, and hasnt allowed an earned run in 23 innings over his last three starts. The right-handers numbers are eye-popping going back to early in his rookie season. Fernandez is 14-4 with a 1.52 ERA in 24 starts since June 1, with 190 strikeouts against 45 walks in 160 innings. "Same as last time -- hes good every time," Atlantas Freddie Freeman said. Braves starter Alex Wood (2-4) allowed seven runs and 10 hits, leaving after facing four batters without getting an out in the sixth. Wood and Fernandez had a memorable duel last week, combining for 25 strikeouts and no walks in what became a 1-0 Miami win that lasted 2 hours, 8 minutes. This time, Fernandez -- who got booed by some in the crowd after not running out a sharp grounder to shortstop leading off the third -- needed only one run again. Miami just happened to give him eight more for good measure. The runs came in bunches during the rematch, with Miami scoring three in the third and five more in the sixth to blow it open. "We have to figure out how to beat Fernandez," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Not everybody is Cy Young, and you still have to beat Cy Young every once in a while." Stanton went the opposite way for a two-run homer to right in the third inning, and Ozunas single in the sixth was enough to chase Wood. Fernandez even added a run-scoring single later in the sixth, and Saltalamacchia connected off Braves reliever Anthony Varvaro in the seventh. The Braves had only three right-handed batters in the starting lineup against Fernandez, looking for any way to break through against him. It was evident early that little was going to work. Fernandez needed only 17 pitches to get his first seven outs, and ended two innings with a pair of knee-buckling 83 mph off-speed offerings. Fernandez was even solid in the field, keeping the game scoreless with a nifty play to end the third. He came hard off the mound to field Ramiro Penas chopper that stopped halfway up the third base line, then faked a throw to first -- which baited the Braves Tyler Pastornicky into taking off from third base. Fernandez simply flipped the ball to Saltalamacchia, who put the tag on a sliding Pastornicky and kept the game scoreless. By the time Fernandez returned to the mound, he had a 3-0 lead and was rolling. Fernandez said he and Saltalamacchia had a quick pregame meeting to go over strategy and came up with the following plan: Whatever Miamis catcher called, Fernandez would throw. Redmond said he considered letting Fernandez finish the game, but with a nine-run lead the manager didnt want to take any risks in the ninth. "Ill get it sometime," Fernandez said of the elusive first complete game. NOTES: Aaron Harang (3-1) goes for Atlanta on Wednesday against the Marlins Nathan Eovaldi (1-1). ... Milwaukee catcher Martin Maldonado was suspended five games while outfielder Carlos Gomez was suspended three games. Pittsburgh outfielder Travis Snider received a two-game penalty, with catcher Russell Martin also missing one game. Maldonado began his suspension with Tuesdays game against the San Diego Padres. Gomez decided to appeal and was in his usual leadoff position. Manager Ron Roenicke said he thought a decision could take a couple weeks. "Im appealing because its not fair and Im not the one that started the fight and Im not the one that started throwing punches first," Gomez said Tuesday in the dugout. "Ill appeal it and wait for the result." Gomez said he did not throw the first punch during the fracas, and that umpires know "who started everything." Gomez would be biggest loss among the four players disciplined. The surprising Brewers entered Tuesday with the best record in baseball at 15-5, four games up on the St. Louis Cardinals. The Gold Glove-winning centre fielder is hitting .313 with five homers and 12 RBIIs after being moved to the leadoff position this season. wholesale jerseys. Snider and Martin plan to appeal the suspension and were penciled into the lineup for Tuesday nights game against Cincinnati. Martin said he was surprised at being disciplined. Martin has a scheduled off day on Thursday in favour of backup Chris Stewart. Its possible he could sit out then to serve the suspension. Benches cleared after Gomez and Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole exchanged words after Gomezs triple in the third inning. Snider came onto the field and tackled Gomez, getting a minor assist from Martin in the process. Snider was then punched in the face by Maldonado, receiving a small gash under his left eye. Roenicke and general manager Doug Melvin were unhappy with the suspensions, and Roenicke said he didnt think it was fair. "No, I dont. The guy who started it all got nothing, and I dont understand that," Roenicke said. "I know theyre tough decisions ... Theyve got precedent, theyve got a lot of things that go into this, but I dont think its fair." Maldonados suspension leaves utilityman Elian Herrera, who was just called up last week, as the backup to starting catcher Jonathan Lucroy. cheap custom jerseys wholesale jerseys store cheap jerseys Cheap Jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

SAO PAULO, Brazil -- FIFA member countries have thrown out proposals to introduce age and term limits for football officials. Kelvin Benjamin Youth Jersey . The modernizing moves have long been regarded by FIFAs anti-corruption advisers as an essential step to change the scandal-hit governing bodys culture. FIFAs 209 countries voted down separate proposals in principle on Wednesday, at public ballots during their congress. Term limits had seemed more likely to win approval. FIFA President Sepp Blatter, who is 78, had widely campaigned against age limits as a form of discrimination. "I am still committed to the University of Florida right now but well just see," she said Monday, as she prepared to compete in the second stop of the season for the Canadian Womens Tour in Niagara Falls, Ont. "LPGA is definitely my goal and I hope to have a successful career out there sometime soon. I dont know when that is right now, if its this year, next year or four years, after I finish university." The Open was won by another former teenage golf legend, Michelle Wie, 24, who turned pro just before her 16th birthday. The Open was her first major win. Henderson, who had the best score among amateurs at the challenging No. 2 Pinehurst course, admitted to some anxious moments at the start of her second Open. "The course was very difficult . . . and the beginning of the week I was a little bit intimidated because it was so hard and it was running so firm and fast," she said. But she got more comfortable as she worked her way to that final round 69. "I just knew that i had to hit certain spots on the fairways and certain spots on the greens and then it would be all right. I was able to hit the ball really well (last) week and hit those spots, which made it a little easier on me." The Nets were without Brook Lopez, who is expected to miss several weeks with a broken foot

ORLANDO, Fla. wholesale nfl jerseys . -- The New Jersey Nets are one of three teams the Magic gave superstar Dwight Howard permission to talk to about potential trades earlier this month. Its safe to say the Nets wish they had the Orlando centre on their side Thursday night. Howard scored 16 points, grabbed 24 rebounds and blocked three shots and the Magic defeated the Nets 94-78 in front of a sellout crowd of 18,954. Ryan Anderson led the Magic with 22 points, while Jason Richardson added 16 points and JJ Redick had 15. "I like the way were heading right now," Howard said after notching his 49th career 20-rebound game. "Were doing all the right things on defence -- were making mistakes here and there, but well get it right -- and our effort has been great." It was a dominant performance from Howard -- who neared his career high of 26 rebounds and helped hold the Nets to 44.8 per cent from inside the paint -- in a game against the team hes been heavily linked to in trade rumours since the NBA lockout ended. The two teams reportedly were close to a three-team deal that wouldve sent Howard to New Jersey a couple weeks ago, but Orlando backed out while holding out hope that Howard might stick around long term. And with trade talks stalled, New Jersey has manoeuvred its payroll to make room for Howard, along with current star Deron Williams, next summer. But Orlando players say the off-court drama wasnt on their minds. "He did a great job approaching it just like any other game, and everyone on the team did the same thing," said Magic guard Jason Richardson, who scored 15 of his 16 points in the first half. "We didnt really worry about whats going on with him." Howard is intent on taking care of business. "My focus is on what the Magic have to do to get better," he said. Rookie forward MarShon Brooks finished with 17 points off the bench for New Jersey, helping make up for the struggles of Williams, who scored just 10 points on 2-of-12 shooting. "It is definitely frustrating," said Williams, who shot 3 for 11 in the Nets loss to Atlanta on Tuesday. "I am not playing well right now and the team is not playing too well right now. It is not time to panic. We are going to have a little bit of struggles just because everybody is learning." The Magic jumped out to a 20-point lead early in the second quarter, but 14-3 run just before halftime -- including eight points from Brooks -- cut the Magics lead to six points heading into the break. But Orlandos suffocating defence prevented the Nets, who scored only 34 points in the second half, from making a serious run. New Jersey cut Orlandos lead to seven points in the fourth quarter, but a balanced Magic scoring attack led by Hedo Turkoglu put the win away. Turkoglu finished with 11 points, seven assists and six boards. "In the second half we came back with a good frame of mind and didnt go on a big run, but we were pretty consistent throughout the entire second half," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "If wed been able to make free throws then we could have really opened it up." Notes: Jameer Nelson left the game with a neck spasm early in the third quarter and didnt return. The team will evaluate him in the morning and determine if he can play Friday night at Charlotte. . In an effort to get off to better starts, the Nets adjusted their starting lineup by inserting Sundiata Gaines and Mehmet Okur in place of Anthony Morrow and Johan Petro. It didnt help; The Magic jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter. "Were still in the experimental stages," coach Avery Johnson said. . Williams, who can opt out of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent this summer, declined to comment when asked if he would consider joining the Magic in free agency. . CLEVELAND -- Lucky in the NBA lottery, the Cavaliers are hoping their good fortune continues as they look for a new coach. Sacramento Kings Jersey . The team asked the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday for permission to speak with assistant coach Alvin Gentry about Clevelands coaching vacancy, a person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press. Gentry, who has coached four other franchises, has not yet set up a meeting with the Cavs, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team is not commenting on its search. The sides are working through some details, and are expected to meet in the next few days. Earlier this week, the Cavs defied long odds to win the draft lottery for the second year in a row and third time in four years. Cleveland is seeking its third coach in three years after Mike Brown was fired -- for the second time by owner Dan Gilbert -- last week following a 33-49 season. Gentry worked previously in Phoenix with Cavaliers general manager David Griffin, who said there is no timetable to hire a new coach. "We do not feel this is a race," he said. "This is not about being first. This is about getting it right. At the same time, if the right candidate did meet the criteria that we set out and is available and is as interested in us as we are in them, we would act on it at the time it presented itself." The Cleveland Plain Dealer was first to report the Cavs intentions to interview Gentry. The Cavs are not limiting themselves to coaches with pro experience and are expected to reach out to college coaches. Having the No. 1 overall pick has certainly made them a more attractive destination. However, Gilberts penchant for firing GMs and coaches would have to make any candidate at least hesitant about coming to Cleveland. Brown was told to make the Cavs better defensively, and did so as the team went from last in the league in defensive field-goal percentage to 12th. Still, that wasnt enough as Cleveland missed the playoffs for the fourth year in a row. Gentry has solid qualifications and is believed to be a candidate for other openings. He has a 335-370 record in 12 seasons with Miami, Detroit, the Clippers and Phoenix. He led the Pistons and Suns to the post-season. Griffin said he hopes to find a coach more attuned to his offensive roots. With the team expected to land one of the best players in what is considered a deep draft along with All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving and guard Dion Waiters, the Cavs could have the core for a high-scoring team. "Ive had a primarily offensive based focus with the people I was raised by," Griffin said. "And I think its fair to say the Cavaliers have had a defensive focus. What excited me most about coming here is that I believe you find the truth in the middle. No franchise thats incredibly well run is all one thing. We need to find a way to speak to the best of all parts of the offensive background I know, the defensive background thats dyed in the wool of this franchise. "Ownership believes in defence, I believe in offence, and theres a truth in the middle. Were going to find that." ------ AP Sports Writer Jon Krawczynski in Minneapolis contributed to this report. Vic Beasley Womens Jersey .The deal is pending receipt of his international transfer certificate, the Whitecaps said in a release.Rodriguez, 24, made 20 starts with Juventud over the last two seasons. Englands most potent attacking team quickly recovered after Phillippe Coutinho put Liverpool ahead in the 24th minute. Vincent Kompany headed City level seven minutes later and Negredos high shot was fumbled into the net by Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet on the stroke of halftime.BALTIMORE - Nick Markakis endured the lean years with the Baltimore Orioles, suffering through one losing season after another during the worst stretch in franchise history. If that wasnt bad enough, when the Orioles finally turned things around in 2012, Markakis sat out the playoffs with a broken thumb. Now, nine years into his major league career, the 30-year-old right fielder is getting his first taste of post-season baseball. No one on Baltimores current roster has spent more time with the team than Markakis, whose loyalty to the Orioles has never wavered since they made him their first-round pick in the 2003 draft.Even after Baltimore went 70-92, 69-93 and 68-93 in his first three major league seasons, Markakis remained confident he would ultimately reach the playoffs with the Orioles. So he signed a six-year extension in 2009 during Baltimores miserable run of 14 straight losing seasons. In the past, judging by the development and the direction the team was going, I knew it was just a matter of time, Markakis said. Thats one reason I signed here, because I knew eventually it was going to happen. Good things come from a little hard work, patience and dedication. It was just a matter of plugging in players here and there, and weve got it now.Using deft moves by executive vice-president Dan Duquette and the guidance of manager Buck Showalter, the Orioles are in the AL Championship Series for the first time since 1997. When they open at home Friday night against Kansas City, there will be plenty of fans among the sellout crowd wearing No. 21 jerseys with MARKAKIS on the back.Markakis, the Orioles leadoff hitter, ranks among the top 10 in franchise history in games, at-bats, runs, hits, double, RBIs and walks. In his own understated way, hes made a name for himself on lists that include Hall of Fame stars Cal Ripken, Brooks Robinson and Frank Robinson. You look at the all-time leaders in hits in Baltimore history, that gets your attention, manager Buck Showalter said. Sometimes we dont completely grasp what weve watching here.Showalter remembers how disappointed Markakis was in 2012, when the Orioles finally shed their losing ways and earned a spot in the playoffs as a wild card. Paul Worrilow Womens Jersey. Markakis season ended on Sept. 9 when he was struck in the left thumb by a fastball from New York Yankees ace C.C. Sabathia. It still bothers me, Showalter said. That was a kick in the (rear). It reminded all of us how fleeting this is.For Markakis, watching the post-season from the bench didnt come close to the feeling of playing the game.Every kid wants to be part of something. When theyre doing something and youre not part of it, it makes you appreciate what youre missing, Markakis said. I understand that now. I had it taken away from in 2012, but here I am with a second chance.Hes making the most of it, too. Markakis had three RBIs and scored three runs in the Orioles three-game sweep of Detroit in the AL Division Series, the highlight a two-run homer in Game 2.I know hes excited about being in the playoffs and were all excited to have him, Baltimore shortstop J.J. Hardy said. Hes kind of one of the steady guys we have on this team. Hes out there every single day, giving 100 per cent playing through pain and all kinds of stuff. The only time in the last seven years that Markakis failed to play in at least 155 games was that lamentable 2012 season. As manager, thats one less thing you have to worry about, Showalter said. Hes such a self-starter a€” and so consistent. That contract Markakis signed in 2009 comes with a club option next season. He will receive $17.5 million in 2015, or the Orioles must pay a $2 million buyout. When he signed in 2009, it was with the notion that he would spend his entire career in Baltimore.High risk, high reward. It was a good decision on my part, Markakis said. I knew what this city was capable of doing and it paid off. Im enjoying this.He cant imagine what it would have been like to spurn the extension, become a free agent and sign with the highest bidder.Theres always an easy way out, Markakis said. You can sign with the team with the most money and best players and everything else, but I always believe in putting in your time and being loyal to the team that who gave you that opportunity.Thats what I abide by, thats how I was raised. I wouldnt have it any other way. cheap custom jerseys wholesale jerseys store cheap jerseys Cheap Jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis signed a one-year contract extension Friday, keeping him on the job through the 2015 season. Lewis has led the Bengals to three straight playoff berths, a first for the franchise that began play in 1968. But the Bengals are 0-5 in the playoffs under Lewis. His 90 career victories are the most in Bengals history by 26 over Sam Wyche (64). His record is 90-85-1 in the regular season. Lewis 11 seasons are the most for a Bengals head coach. "Im blessed to continue to do a job I love here in Cincinnati," said Lewis, 55. "I truly appreciate the commitment by our management to continue to enable us to build an NFL championship team." The Bengals went 11-5 last season and won the AFC North. They fell at home to San Diego in the wild-card playoff round after losses to Houston the previous two years in the opening week of the post-season. Still, Lewis has brought continuity and organization to the Bengals, even if they have not won a playoff game since the 1990 season. Lewis lost both co-ordinators in the off-season, with Mike Zimmer becoming head coach in Minnesota and Jay Gruden taking over in Washington. "Marvin has earned this commitment for the job he is doing," said Bengals president Mike Brown. "We are one of only five teams to qualify for the playoffs the last three years, and our prospects are bright looking ahead. Marvin is driven to achieve more, and we are happy to secure his leadership of our team beyond the coming season." Nike Air Max 90 Ice . 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney. Cowen struck Girgensons in the head late in the third period of Ottawas game in Buffalo on Tuesday night. No penalty was called on the play. DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings got a break, getting credit for a goal in perhaps one of the most bizarre ways in NHL history. Niklas Kronwalls shot was deflected and bounced off the protective net out of play, caromed back over the glass, and struck goalie Jonathan Quicks back to tie the game with 26.1 seconds left in regulation. Tomas Tatar scored in the shootout, and Jimmy Howard stopped all three shots he faced in the tiebreaker to lift Detroit to a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night. "Thats embarrassing for the league," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "It doesnt matter if we wouldve scored it or they scored it." Kronwall seemed to agree. "It shouldnt have counted," he said. "But at this stage of the game where were at in the standings, well take it." The Red Wings, who lost their two previous games 1-0, are in fifth place in the Atlantic Division and are in a logjam for a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Detroit avoided getting shut out in three straight games for the first time in the regular season, and the first time since the 1945 Stanley Cup finals against Toronto. The Kings, especially defenceman Drew Doughty tried to protest Kronwalls goal, but it wasnt reviewable because none of the officials blew a whistle to stop play when the puck hit the net. "They just said they didnt see it," Doughty said. "Its unfortunate. We shouldve got two points. "Ive never seen that before, thats for sure." Los Angeles took a 2-1 lead when Jeff Carter scored off a rebound during a power play with 2:15 left in the third period. Quick and Howard -- two of the three U.S. Olympic goalies -- bumped into each other and had a heated exchange during a stoppage in play midway through the second period. "We were just discussing what we were going to do in Sochi," Howard joked. Howard roughed up Kings forward Kyle Clifford when he slid into the crease. Howard and Mike Richards then shoved each other andd were called for roughing.ddddddddddddHoward later skated toward his bench during a break, Quick stood in his way to say something, and the two had to be separated. "For him to do that, I thought it was pretty cool," said Doughty, who will play for Canada next month at the Winter Olympics. "I loved it, actually." Howard finished with 30 saves. Quick, who stopped 33 shots, shrugged off the tough-luck loss. "Season ended against Chicago, Game 5, last year," he said. "Thats tougher." Richards broke a scoreless tie at 9:06 of the second, and Henrik Zetterberg tied it 41 seconds later. The Kings went ahead on a power play, but Dwight King was penalized for holding onto the puck with 1:45 left in regulation. That proved to be costly. "They could see the puck when Dwight King covered it with his hand, but they couldnt see it when it went over the barn and came back in," Sutter said. Zetterbergs goal ended a scoreless streak that lasted 152 minutes, 21 seconds and dated to last weeks win against the Kings. The Red Wings started a season-high, five-game homestand, and they hope that is good news. Detroit, which had won only one of its last eight home games, started Saturday with an NHL-low six home victories this season. The Red Wings won for just the second time in nine shootouts. Detroit was without seven skaters who would have been in its lineup if healthy, including Pavel Datsyuk for the sixth straight game because of a lower-body injury. Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said the team has players making "millions and millions," that never seem to play. NOTES: Tatar returned from a one-game absence to attend his fathers funeral and replaced Mikael Samuelsson. ... Kings D Matt Greene was scratched for a second straight game because of an upper-body injury. ... Datsyuk isnt expected to play Monday against St. Louis. ... When I reported the Whitecaps link with Pedro Morales on the last day of February, I imagined keyboards clicking all over Vancouver as fans tried to unearth some sense of who this so-called "number 10" was. The resume looked good, and the YouTube video clips were encouraging, but anyone can cram a players best career moments into 10 grainy minutes. So when Morales finally made his debut at BC Place on Saturday amid a thunderous welcome there was still a big unknown factor to this new designated player. With his first touch, the 28-year-old Chilean reeled in a through ball with his left foot, before swerving it into the path of Sebastien Fernandez, which eventually led to a Whitecaps corner. From there, Morales never turned over possession. In the 77th minute, he brushed the ball forward with his chest, bought some time in a midfield pocket, and clipped a through ball for a wide open and onside Kenny Miller - and the game was over. Simple, effortless, quality. A minute later he pulled out some trickery to release Nic Mezquida who ultimately forced a save, and then more "oohs and ahhs" from the sellout crowd as he cleverly dummied a ball for Laba in minute 85. Reactions from the Whitecaps Residency players were priceless. Like kids watching a birthday party magician, they squealed with delight at every touch. Among them, 17-year-old Marco Bustos; another natural No. 10 who ironically has some Chilean blood. What was going through his mind in minute 89 as Morales stroked home the 4-0 goal with one perfect connection from his right foot? Yes, it was only 25 minutes. But Whitecaps fans left BC Place Saturday wondering what kind of magic Morales could provide when he gets a full 90. Diego Lopez Real Madrid Jersey . Every team wants to start its season on the right foot, but general manager Bryan Murray says training camp this season is vitally important for the Ottawa Senators. "Maybe, we were too comfortable," he told TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie. "It looked to me that - the year before we had a lot of injuries and a number of the key guys didnt play very much - we came to camp with a full group, maybe we thought we were going to be better than we were going to be and, certainly, we didnt compete at the same level. Theres no question. Maybe there was a comfort that the stars were back, so the other guys didnt have to work so hard." Murray, heading into his eighth year at the helm of the club, insists that things will be different this season. "At the end of last year, we had a long, intense meeting with all of management and coaching staff," he explained. "This year, a week ago, we had a sit-down again to review what we had talked about, but also have some objectives going forward starting with training camp and the first visit we have with our players. Theres no question that we have a plan that we think its going to allow our players to be more productive." That plan, he added, begins with a commitment to defence, something that he believes was the source of the teams biggest failings last year that saw the Senators finish fifth in the Atlantic Division, 11th in the Eastern Conference and five points outside the final playoff spot. "I dont think we played defence at all last year," he said. "A lot of people blamed our goaltending, but I dont think our defensive corps were any good. I think each and every one of them took a step backwards. I dont think we were focused at all on preventing or that type of thing and we werent disciplined. I thought our penalties were far too high. Our goals against were far too high. Shots against in every game were far too high. The focus has got to be getting back to the team game and the team game starts at playing defence." For Murray, defence will start from the back out, with the team signing goaltender Craig Anderson to a three-year extension late last month worth $12.6 million. Anderson, 33, is coming off of a season where he went 25-16-8 in 53 games, posting a save percentage of .911 and a goal against average of 3.00. Despite the emergence of Robin Lehner, a player Murray says "is ready to be a No. 1 goaltender," Murray is a strong believer in the importance of having two NHL-calibre keepers. "To get a deal done in the league at this time, you just cant ask a guy to sign a one-year deal and then go away," said Murray. "We didnt wanna do that. Craig Anderson is a good goaltender. He might be in the top half of the league in goaltending, certainly, at this point in time. I like the fact that he have two. I think Paul is going to give opportunity to the guy who plays the best to play the most and thats all we can ask for. I think that the two of them appear to get along very well at this point in time and, if we have to make a move later on, then well do it. But we didnt want to walk a away from a good person and a good goaltender." One player the team walked away from in the offseason was captain Jason Spezza. After 11 seasons in the nations capital, Spezza, the teams leader and best player, was traded to the Dallas Stars for Alex Chiasson, a pair of prospects and a second-round pick next summer. Murray believes that the time was right for Spezza to move on. "Jason Spezza hasnt been happy, really, for a couple of years in Ottawa," he said. "I think the finger-pointing at him, sometimes, was a little harsh. We all thought Jason was a quality player, a big point-getting for us, but maybe it was time for him and maybe it was time for us to make the next step and try to get another player in that role or a variety of players to play that role. I think well find the solution and we think Jason will do well with Dallas. We think well do well with the group weve got." In Spezzas absence, Kyle Turris will be looked upon to jump into the No. 1 slot and match up with opposing teams top defensive pairings and checking lines. Murray thinks that Turris is ready, but also is of the opinion that the other pivots around Turris will help provide needed insulation, namely Mika Zibanejad and free agent signing David Legwand. "I think Kyle will handle it, but I think he will have a more difficult time when they play the No. 1 pair of defence against him on a regular basis or the number-one checking centre," he acknowledged. "We think Zibanejad is going to make a huge step this year. He looks big and strong coming into the little bit Ive seen of him so far in the skates that weve had. Getting David Legwand, a veteran guy who probably hasnt scored the points that Nashville thought he was going to get, but has been a good, honest player in the league. We have a couple of other kids that we think can step up. We think Zack Smith can play a more prominent role than hes played. We lost the big guy in the middle and were not discounting it. Thats a big loss for us. We think we have a couple of guys that can handle it and, if its Kyle who has to face the No. 1 guy, then its Zibanejad wholl face the No. 2 guys. I think it will work out, maybe not as quickly as we want, but I think it will work out." With Spezza gone, the Senators, like it was last summer when Daniel Alfredsson signed with the Detroit Red Wings, are without a captain. But Murray doesnt think the team will rush to fill the vacancy. "We have to make the right decision, if we make a decision in that area," said Murray. "It may well be that we go with three As this year and appoint one of them as sort of the senior guy. I think a captain is really important, but I also think that having a core of four or five guys, at least, that relate to the coach and help with the players is just as important." What about superstar defenceman Erik Karlsson for the captaincy? "Hes a guy whos taken leadership as a very important thing for him," he said. "Weve had talks at the end of last year and we didnt like some of the games that a lot of our defencemen played. I think Erik is going to back and hes going to be our star, no doubt." If somebody were to be made captain this season, Karlsson looks to be the frontrunner. "Hes a forceful guy, hes an opinionated guy and hes a talented guy," said Murray. "Hes respected by all of the players in the room. I think we just have to see now, can he take the step that we think hell get back to and I dont think theres a big hurry to put a young guy in a pressure spot at this time. But we may well decide at the end of training camp that there is a need to do that and if we have to, we will." What the team does have to do, says Murray, is return to the post-season and the general manager believes his team is a playoff club. "We work hard, we play right and play more conscious of defence," said Murray of what it will take to direct the team back to success. The Ottawa Senators open training camp on Thursday. The World Series champions failed each of the four times it had runners in scoring position, eking out just two hits while facing No. 5 starter Vidal Nuno and three relievers in an 6-0 loss to the New York Yankees on Friday night. "Again, the base hit with the guy in scoring position has been elusive," Farrell said. The Red Sox put runners on in each of the first three innings against Nuno (2-4), who gave up 13 runs in 9 1-3 innings over his last two starts, but came up empty in the sixth loss in eight games against New York this season. Boston is hitting .227 with RISP, a big part of the reason they are just 36-44. The Red Sox scored three runs or fewer for the 11th time in 13 games and losing for the sixth time in eight games. Fourth in the rugged AL East, Boston trails the Yankees, who entered the night in third, by six games. "I think weve got the right guys in here, guys who have been around and know what they have to do," Brock Holt said. "Its just a matter of going out and doing it." Brandon Workman (1-1) pitched seven adequate innings but allowed a sacrifice fly to Mark Teixeira and consecutive homers to Kelly Johnson and Brett Gardner. Workman allowed four runs, seven hits and two walks. He struck out five. "Little bit of a grind the whole time," Workman said. "I was constantly pitching with guys on." Brian McCann added a two-run homer off Craig Breslow in the eighth. In his first at-bat as a 40-year-old, Derek Jeter fisted a single to right field with one out in the first. His birthday was on Thursday, the Yankees final day off before playing 17 straight going into the All-Star break. After Jacoby Ellsbury doubled, Jeter scored on Teixeiras sacrifice fly for the early lead. The Yankees captain also singled in the fourth for hit No. 3,390 and went 2 for 4 in New Yorks second win in six games. New York manager Joe Girardi could have sskipped the struggling Nuno and given the ball to rookie ace Masahiro Tanaka because of the extra day of rest but, in a feisty pregame Q&A with media, Girardi insisted he was interested in protecting his entire staff, not just the Japanese sensation.dddddddddddd Nuno rewarded Girardi with 5 2-3 impressive innings. He yielded a leadoff single to Jonny Gomes in the second and a one-out double in the third to Holt. Nuno then retired 10 straight before walking David Ortiz, his last batter. "Ive had confidence in him but were in a situation where these are the five guys that we have," Girardi said. "Hes pitched some good games for us. ... He seems to always bounce back and give us a good outing." Dellin Betances, Adam Warren and Matt Thornton finished the three-hitter. Holt possibly saved a run in the second when he made a leaping catch above the wall on Brian Roberts fly to right field. But he could only watch as Johnsons two-run homer in the fourth went deep into the bleachers in right field, his first home run in 85 at-bats. "It was a good feeling," Johnson said, "to drive a ball like that but also to give us some more breathing room." Gardner connected six pitches later, giving New York a 4-0 lead. NOTES: Red Sox SS Stephen Drew snapped an 0-for-29 skid with a double in the seventh. ... Farrell said LHP Felix Dubront is being bumped to the bullpen. Dubront was not happy. "I have to stay positive and do my work," Dubront said. ... Boston OF Shane Victorino (strained right hamstring) and 3B Will Middlebrooks (broken finger) had setbacks in their rehabs. Both have stopped baseball activities and there are no timetables for their return. ... Yankees LHP CC Sabathia (right knee) will make his first rehab start Saturday for Class-A Tampa. PHOENIX -- Channing Frye appeared to have his career-high scoring night in the bag until the Phoenix Suns reserves played so well that he didnt get back in the game. Frye had to settle for a season-high 30 points instead in the Suns 117-103 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night. "For me it is just constant movement and shooting shots that I know are good shots," Frye said, "and just not even thinking about it and letting them go. Tonight they went in." After missing all of last season for treatment of an enlarged heart, Frye made 12 of 16 shots and 5 of 7 3-pointers in his strongest game yet in an impressive comeback season -- then he sat out the final 9 1/2 minutes. "He was hot from the start," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "He makes it very difficult on teams, playing the four spot, when hes making those shots." Markieff Morris scored 16 and Goran Dragic 15 for the Suns, who never trailed and improved to 3-0 against Denver this season with one game to play. Anthony Randolph scored a season-best 19 for the Nuggets, who have lost four of five and were without guard Randy Foye because of a stomach virus. Evan Fournier, Ty Lawson and Wilson Chandler added 17 points apiece for Denver. In his most extensive minutes of the season since returning from an ankle injury, Suns rookie centre Alex Len had nine points and six rebounds, pressed into added duty when Miles Plumlee tweaked an ankle. Leandro Barbosa, in his home debut after rejoining the franchise where he had his greatest NBA success, scored 13. He had missed the previous two games with a sore right shoulder. "He got to the hole several times," Hornacek said. "It doesnt even look like hes going that hard, but he knows when to do it. He takes one or two dribbles and that explosive step is what gets him by people. ... That could be a big weapon for us as we go forward." The Suns never fell behind two nights after they never had the lead in a home loss to Dallas. "Once again our defence failed us," Nuggets coach Brian Shaw said. "We gave up 117 points for the fourth consecutive game and it happened from the starters through the guys who came off the bench. The guys who came off the bench (for Phoenix) played so well they never had to come back to their starters. The Nuggets managed three ties in the first quarter before Phoenix took the lead for good when Fryes 22-footer made it 21-19 with 4:27 left in the opening quarter. The Suns led by as many as 11 early in the second quarter and were up 62-56 at the half. Phoenix opened the second half with a 9-1 run to take its biggest lead, 71-57, after Dragic banked in a running 10-footer. Denver got back in it with a flurry of 3-pointers and offensive rebounds. Chandler scored 11 in the third quarter, including three 3-pointers, and Denver cut the lead to 77-73 on Fourniers 3 with 4:02 to left in the period. Denver had a chance to get closer moments later, but Hickson missed two free throws. Baskets by Frye and Leandro Barbosa boosted the Suns lead to 84-77 before Lawsons late driving layup cut their margin to 84-79 entering the fourth quarter. The Nuggets started the fourth with a basket to cut it to 84-81, but thats as close as it got. Frye sank a 3-pointer to start a 7-0 spurt that made it 91-81 10:12 from the end. Denver sliced it to 91-86, then Phoenix scored the next seven and the Nuggets never got it closer than nine again. "We score enough points," Lawson said. "No defence." NOTES: The Suns shot 50.5 per cent. They are 7-0 when they shoot 50 per cent or better. ... The Suns havent swept the Nuggets since 2004-05. ... The Suns signed Barbosa to a second 10-day contract Saturday and are expected to sign him for the rest of the season when that deal expires as the team awaits the return some weeks away of guard Eric Bledsoe after knee surgery. ... In their last meeting, Dec. 20, Phoenix rallied from 21 down to win in Denver 103-99. ... Next up for Phoenix, a home game against Indiana on Wednesday night. Tracy Mcgrady Magic Jersey . Real beat city rival Atletico Madrid 4-1 after extra time Saturday night in the Champions League final to set off the celebrations, which carried on through the Spanish capital night after the European champions arrived home in the early hours. The celebration started with the teams open-top bus cruising into Cibeles Square, where team captains Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos draped a club flag around the statue in the centre of the fountain as Real does after every trophy victory. The party continued later Sunday night at the Bernabeu, where a laser show and the chants of thousands of fans honoured Madrids players and coaching staff in a rock concert atmosphere. Coach Carlo Ancelotti led the crowd in singing a celebratory song that was recorded especially for the occasion. Madrid had already recorded the song before ending its obsessive 12-yeaar wait for "La Decima" with Saturdays victory in Lisbon.dddddddddddd. Madrids players were introduced one by one, before Casillas and Ramos hoisted the European Cup high at centre stage as streamers sprayed confetti and Queens "We are the champions" was played over the loudspeaker. "Thanks for waiting," Casillas told the crowd amid chants of his name, before Cristiano Ronaldo took the microphone to lead a chant of "Hala Madrid!" -- a traditional rallying cry for the club. With president Florentino Perez watching on, the team paraded European footballs most prestigious trophy around the Bernabeu in a lap of honour that Ronaldo recorded on his mobile phone as teammate Gareth Bale quietly soaked in the atmosphere. Several players showed off new looks as Luka Modric cut his trademark locks while dark-haired Dani Carvajal bleached his beard blond. Real was also welcomed to city hall in an afternoon ceremony to celebrate the victory in the first final between clubs from the same city.
