LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Tony Gwynn Jr. had just gotten into the batting cage and was starting to take swings when he heard his name called as a pinch-hitter. He worked the count against Tim Lincecum before roping a go-ahead three-run triple one inning after San Franciscos Nate Schierholtz ran into a critical out that helped kill a Giants rally and the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers went on to a 6-2 victory Wednesday night. "I was sucking wind over there," Gwynn said about his sprint around the bases with little warm-up. "He left a couple balls up and he was missing with his spots a little bit." The Dodgers have won six of their past seven series at home heading into a day off Thursday before Colorado arrives for a weekend series. Jamey Wright (2-2) pitched two perfect innings and struck out two for the victory. "Thats a key right there," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "His two innings were huge." Lincecum (2-3) gave up four runs and eight hits in five innings. He struck out eight, including NL home run leader Matt Kemp three times, and walked two in losing for the first time since April 16 against Philadelphia. The right-hander extended his winless streak against the Dodgers to 0-4 dating to last season. The two-time NL Cy Young winner has been especially hard-hit in the first inning, but he got out of that having allowed just two hits. "You got to force him to get the ball up," Mattingly said. "He gets so many outs down in the strike zone." Kemp, who came in batting .500 in his 11 previous home games against the Giants, went 0 for 5. The Dodgers struck for four runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Lincecum gave up a leadoff double to Andre Ethier and Bobby Abreu followed with a single. Juan Uribe drove in Ethier with a single to third that Joaquin Arias, who fell down before he could get off the throw to first. A.J. Ellis walked one out later and Gwynn cleared the bases with a drive into deep right field while batting for Chad Billingsley. "It was nice getting through those first three, but dealing with that fourth wasnt easy," Lincecum said. "I didnt put us in an easy spot. I just tried to pitch a little more aggressively and took my bullpen a little more seriously before the game as if its another inning." Buster Poseys RBI single in the third extended the Giants lead to 2-0. Brandon Belt reached on a fielders choice grounder and Schierholtz singled him to second. Arias had a single to centre, and Kemp charged the ball, throwing to second baseman Adam Kennedy for the tag on Schierholtz, who had rounded the bag and was tagged out before Belt could cross the plate. "I read the ball in the gap and I thought I had a chance possibly to go to third, but I took one step too many and tried to get back, but he made a perfect throw," Schierholtz said. "I was overaggressive, but thats how I play the game. Weve worked on going from first to third. It was just a lack of judgment on my part." The Dodgers recalled outfielder-first baseman Scott Van Slyke from Triple-A Albuquerque and he arrived minutes before the game began. The son of former major leaguer Andy Van Slyke got his first major league hit with a pinch-hit RBI single in his first major league at-bat in the sixth. "My first at-bat I wasnt as nervous as I thought Id be," he said. "As soon as I swung at the pitch it was just another baseball game." Pitcher Aaron Harang walked past Van Slyke after the game and stuffed a towel full of shaving cream in his face. "That burns," Van Slyke said as he tried to remove the goop from his eyes. "Got him!" Kemp shouted as he emerged from the shower. "That burns, huh?" Lincecum drove in the Giants first run with a single to shortstop in the second. Billingsley lasted just four innings for the Dodgers, allowing two runs and seven hits while striking out five and walking four. He slammed his glove down in the dugout after being yanked. "I was mad at myself and I wanted to stay in the game," he said. "I sort of beat myself up. Everything felt good, but my fastball command was kind of off. I fell behind the hitters and I wasnt being aggressive when I should have been." Notes: The Giants lost their first rubber game of the season, while the Dodgers won their first. ... Dodgers OF Alfredo Silverio, who was seriously hurt in an off-season car accident, had Tommy John surgery on his right throwing elbow and is out for the season. ... Dodgers OF-1B Juan Rivera was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with what the team called a significant strained left hamstring. Manager Don Mattingly said Rivera would be out longer than two weeks. ... Dodgers INF Jerry Hairston had a MRI on his strained left hamstring after missing his third straight game. He said he would be evaluated either Thursday or Friday. ... Giants OF Angel Pagan was held out of the starting lineup although he felt well enough to play. He had a cramp in his left hamstring while beating out an infield single Tuesday. Gregor Blanco replaced him. Vaughn Martin Lions Jersey . There is some potential on offence but overall the roster doesnt have enough talent to get excited about in 2013. Maybe QB Jake Locker makes the leap in his third year in the league, but Tennessees fortunes are still tied more closely to Johnson at running back, who will need to return to CJ2K for the Titans to have any chance at the playoffs this season. Brandon Pettigrew Lions Jersey . Point scored twice and had an assist as the Canadians tuned up for their U18 world championship opener Thursday against Sweden. "He goes to the hard places," said head coach Kevin Dineen, who recently guided the Canadian womens team to Olympic gold in Sochi. http://www.shopjerseyslions.com/Womens-Rob-Sims-Authentic-Jersey/.com) - The San Antonio Spurs will try to even their series with the Dallas Mavericks Monday night when the two teams collide at American Airlines Arena for Game 4. DeJon Gomes Lions Jersey . Joe Johnson had 18 points, Brook Lopez scored 17 and .Shaun Livingston had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Nets. The Nets rested Paul Pierce, Deron Williams and Andrei Kirilenko in their third preseason game. Reggie Bush Lions Jersey . The prosecutors filed arguments disputing Clemens position that a second trial would violate his constitutional protection against double jeopardy by making him face the same charges twice. Clemens had argued the showing of the evidence was a deliberate ploy to invoke a mistrial because the prosecutors case was going badly. (Sports Network) - Returning home after their first victorious multi-city road trip in over two years, the Washington Nationals figure to stand a decent chance of matching their longest winning streak of the season if Ryan Zimmerman can find his way back into the lineup. The third baseman is expected to play for the first time in over two months tonight in the opener of a three-game series against a visiting St. Louis Cardinals club that lost command in the National League Central for the first time since mid-May. Washington returns to Nationals Park after sweeping a three-game series at San Diego over the weekend. That helped the Nats post a 6-5 record on their West Coast tour, marking their first winning road trip since going 4-3 on a seven- game trek from May 12-18, 2008. Washingtons nine-game homestand could get off to a great start with the return of Zimmerman, who hasnt played since April 9 because of a left abdominal strain. The 26-year-old former All-Star is hitting .357 in eight games this season with a homer and four RBI. It would be great [to get Zimmerman back tonight], Danny Espinosa told his teams website after a 2-0 win over the Padres on Sunday. He is a great player. To have him back would be huge. The rest of the Nationals will also welcome back the former Gold Glove winner as they try to match their longest winning streak of the season: A four-game run from April 15-20. Espinosa helped keep Washingtons current run alive with a sacrifice fly during a two-run ninth inning in Sundays victory. Sundays game was nearly one of missed chances as Washington went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position. However, Espinosa launched his ball to deep right to score the games first run and Laynce Nix followed with a base hit to score Alex Cora. Im just proud of the way we played. The way we battled out there today. The way we pitched and played defense. You do a lot of little things and you come away with a win. Its good for the ballclub, Nats manager Jim Riggleman said. Jordan Zimmermann got a no-decision despite striking out 10 through seven shutout innings. Yunesky Maya will try to keep the momentum going tonnight and pick up his first victory of the season for Washington, which is 0-3 in the Cubans three starts this season.dddddddddddd Maya himself is 0-1 with a 5.40 earned run average, but is coming off a great outing at San Francisco on Wednesday. The 29-year-old righty allowed just a run on four hits and a walk over a season-high six innings. Maya faces a Cardinals club for the first time in his career tonight that is out of first place in the National League Central. St. Louis had held the top spot since May 19, but now sits tied with Milwaukee after getting swept in three games by the Brewers over the weekend. The Cards dropped Sundays finale, 4-3, for their fourth loss in five games. Jake Westbrook didnt allow a run over the first five innings, but was tagged for four in the sixth without recording an out. We had some momentum there and that one big inning beat us, said Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. Thats tough. Colby Rasmus had a pair of hits and drove in a run before nearly coming up with some heroics in the ninth. He drilled a one-out offering to deep center, but the Brewers Carlos Gomez came up with a great catch while colliding with the wall to keep the tying run off base. St. Louis will look to rebound from getting swept for the second time this season behind Jaime Garcia, but the lefty has lost two of his last three outings since a 5-0 start. Garcia has given up four runs since getting charged with 12, all but one earned, over 3 1/3 innings of a setback at Colorado. The 24-year-old beat the Cubs on June 3, but lost at Houston five days later after yielding three runs on seven hits over five innings. Garcia has a 3.20 ERA through 13 starts and is 2-2 with a 5.70 ERA in eight games on the road this year. That is compared to a tremendous 4-0 mark and 0.46 ERA in five starts at home. He has won both of his career starts versus the Cardinals, pitching to a 0.87 ERA. That includes a home win on April 20 in which he allowed three runs -- one earned -- over five innings. The Cardinals took two of three in that series and have won nine of 13 and 16 of their last 22 against the Nationals overall. ' ' '

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Will Power wasted no time disproving his own theory. Power started ninth, took the lead on a late caution and pulled back in front of Scott Dixon on the double-file restart with 16 laps left Sunday to the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama for the second straight year. So much for his stance two days earlier that it would be tough for anybody opening outside the top four to win on a course that typically features infrequent passing. Power showed it could be done by making up ground with the help of tire strategy and swift work on pit road. He started on the faster alternate red-striped tires instead of the more durable black. "We started on black tires when everybody started on red, and then went to red when everyone was on black," Power said. "That got us a couple of spots. And then just good stops and good strategy calls put me out in clean air so we could use our speed to make some passes. "It was a very good team effort, an absolute team effort to put ourselves in position to win, which I did not think was possible this morning." It was the second straight win for Chevrolet and Team Penske, which also is 3 for 3 at Barber Motorsports Park. Power and Dixon pulled away from the field for a 1-2 finish, just like a year ago. St. Petersburg winner and pole-sitter Helio Castroneves of Penske edged Graham Rahal for third. "The way the car finished at the end of the day, I have to be very happy with third," Castroneves said. "Thats the best we could do." James Hinchcliffe of Oakville, Ont., started second but faded to a sixth-place finish. Power had his fast qualifying time in the second session negated because a caution came down during his run, forcing the Australian out of his more familiar front-runner status at Barber, where he had held the pole the past two years. He still managed to work his way toward the front, moving into the top five by passing Tony Kanaan on the hairpin fifth turn -- where he managed several passes -- a third of the way through. This time, the restart provided the last real drama up front after a caution when Katherine Legge went into a gravel pit. Power consistently had the fastest car in practice and qualifying here before the poor timing of a day earlier. It was a nice rebound also from a St. Petersburg performance he called "the worst race of my life." It was another tantalizingly close call for Dixon, second in the seasons first two races and all three years at the tree-lined 2.38-mile road course in suburban Birmingham. Dixon couldnt muster much of a challenge in the final laps, finishing 3.37 seconds behind. "I think we had the car to beat," Dixon said. "We had the speed and for the most part the right strategy, but it just wasnt our day. The restart, I got a good jump on them. "But obviously being on the inside, all he had to do was drive in deeper. I tried for a few laps there, burned the rear tires off with about five or 10 to go. That was all said and done." Rahal couldnt find a way past Castroneves, the 2010 winner. The focus returned to racing after the emotional weekend in St. Petersburg, the adopted hometown of Dan Wheldon and the first race since Wheldons fatal crash in Octobers season finale. Power matched Wheldons 16 career wins in Indy cars, 14 of them coming on road or street courses. The race provided significantly more manoeuvring after Power led wire-to-wire in 2011. Dixon beat Castroneves and Hinchcliffe out of pit road on the first stop to move up front but lost precious time and the lead on the second. Rookie Simon Pagenaud was fifth. Formula One veteran Rubens Barrichello had a strong performance in his second IndyCar race, finishing eighth. Defending series champion Dario Franchitti moved up eight spots after a rough qualifying session and was 10th, still a slow start by the standards of Dixons Target Chip Ganassi teammate. "Dario is a true professional," Dixon said. "Hes not letting it get on top of him. I think qualifying wasnt his fault. They had a problem with the car. "He hasnt had the starts he wanted to, but hell be strong here real quick." The new cars safety measures still havent been put to the test by the first two races. This time there were only two cautions. There was some attrition starting moments after the race began. Lachenaie, Que., native Alex Taglianis Lotus car didnt make it through the first lap before mechanical failure ended his day. Charlie Kimball went into the gravel midway through. Takuma Sato had to pull off the track on the 54th lap, climbing out and walking down the grass back to pit road. wholesale nfl jerseys . TSN.ca presents its latest weekly power rankings for the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League staff. Rankings were weighted evenly between separate lists made by TSN Radio host and soccer analyst Gareth Wheeler as well as TSN.cas soccer editors. 1. Liverpool (Last Week -4) Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge were both on target while Steven Gerrard converted a penalty as Liverpool earned a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace. With the victory, Liverpool gains a share of the top of the table. Suarez has 19 goals in 22 games while Sturridge has 19 in 24 games. 2. Arsenal (LW-1) Jack Wilshere scored a huge goal to rescue a point for his side as Arsenal tied West Brom 1-1. Not surprisingly both Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud were key in the Wilshire goal but despite a possession advantage, that was all they could muster in the draw. 3. Chelsea (LW-3) Oscar scored early and Chelsea got two late markers to pick up a 3-1 victory over Norwich City. Eden Hazard and Willian scored the deciding goals after entering the game as second half substitutes to put away the victory. With the victory, Chelsea finds themselves in the top three of the table. 4. Manchester City (LW-6) After giving up the opening marker of the game, Citys offence took over as they cruised to a 3-1 victory. Alvaro Negredo brought the score level just one minute after his team fell behind and Sergio Aguero scored and had a second credited as an own goal to Everton keeper Tim Howard. 5. Southampton (LW-7) The good feelings for the Saints continued as they beat Swansea 2-0 to maintain their place in the top four of the Premier League table. Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez provided the scoring for Southampton, who have only been beaten once so far this season. Keeper Artur Boruc was solid when needed in this contest. 6. Tottenham (LW-2) Coming into the second half of a scoreless game against West Ham, Tottenham and their fans could not know what was in store. West Ham rode three second half markers to what turned out to be an easy 3-0 victory over Spurs. The loss is the worst at home during the tenure of head coach Andre Villas-Boas. 7. Manchester United (LW- It only took six minutes for Adnan Januzaj to seize control in Uniteds 2-1 victory over Sunderland. After the home side grabbed an early 1-0 lead, the teenager rescued the win for the champions with his second half brace. Keeper David De Gea was solid when called upon to help his team earn the points. 8. Everton (LW-5) When Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring it looked like Everton was going to cruise to another victory. Unfortunately it was their only high spot in a 3-1 loss to Manchester City, their first loss of the season. Everton was the last unbeaten team in the Premier League. 9. Aston Villa (LW-10) Without Christian Benteke in the lineup, Aston Villa was not able to convert any chances as they drew Hull City 0-0. Andreas Weimann and Gabriel Agbonlahor created chances but they were not able to find the finish to win the game for Villa. Keeper Brad Guzan was not required to make a save in the game. 10. Hull City (LW-9) Despite being out played for large portions of the game, Hull claimed a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa. Keeper Allan McGregor was called on a few times to keep the score level and he answered those calls to earn his side a point. Hulls best sustained pressure came early in the contest but they were not able to find a goal. 11. West Bromwich Albion (LW-11) Claudio Yacob scored a first half marker for the Baggies but they had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Arsenal after giving up a goal in the second half. Stephane Sessegnon was strong for West Brom who played well in the middle of the park but were not able to find the finish they needed to capture the game. 12. West Ham United (LW-17) In what is surely the upset of the week, West Ham rolled to a 3-0, road victory over Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Winston Reid, Ricardo Vaz Te and Ravel Morrison were responsible for the scoring as the Hammers completely took over the game in the second half. Sam Allardyces side now has one of the signature wins of the season. 13. Newcastle United (LW-16) Loic Remy fired home twice in the first half and Newcastle hung on for a 2-1 victory over Cardiff City. Cardiff actually controlled more of the ball and pulled back their goal in the second half but in the end, it was Newcastle that enjoyed the victory. 14. Swansea City (LW-13) Though they dominated large chunks of the game, Swansea could do nothing but watch Southampton roll to a 2-0 victory. Michu and Wilfried Bony both had chances to get on the scoreboard and Nathan Dyer hit the inside of the post but was not able to find the finish to get his team back into the game. 15. Stoke City (LW-15) Stoke will walk away from their 1-0 loss to Fulham believing they should have at least gained a point from the contest. Twice in the game they thought they were going to be awarded penalties but neither was given. Defender Robert Huth also had a header cleared off the line and Marko Arnautovic shot a clear chance wide of the net. 16. Cardiff City (LW-12) After going two goals down in the first half, Cardiff staged a second half comeback that fell just short as they lost 2-1 to Newcastle. Peter Odemwingie scored in the 58th minute and the Welsh side pressed to the final whistle for the equalizer that never came. 17. Norwich City (LW-14) Keper John Ruddy was not nearly good enough when he needed to be as Norwich fell 3-1 to Chelsea. Anthony Pilkington leveled the score for the Canaries in the 68th minute and they tried to hold on and gain a home point against a top side. They conceded twice in a minute and were forced to go home with nothing from the game. 18. Fulham (LW-1 Substitute Darren Bent fired home the only goal as Fulham beat Stoke City 1-0. The Cottagers picked up their first win since opening day but had to withstand the pressure of Stokes attack to earn the points. Twice it looked as though Fulham had committed penalties but the referee waived away both offences. Keeper David Stockdale earned the clean sheet. 19. Crystal Palace (LW-19) Dwight Gayles 76th minute goal was the only consolation Palace would take away from a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool. They were dominated from the start of the game, giving up all three goals in the first 38 minutes of play. Palace was able to eventually put pressure on Liverpool leading to the goal, but it was already too late to make a difference. 20. Sunderland (LW-20) It was great start for the Black Cats as they took a 1-0 lead against Manchester United just five minutes into the game through Craig Gardner. Emanuele Giaccherini failed to double the advantage before the half and United turned the game in the second, sending Sunderland to a 2-1 defeat. They have only earned one of a possible 21 points on the season. Demar Dotson Buccaneers Jersey .7 million, one-year contract, a raise of $2.2 million. ARLINGTON, Texas -- Now the AL West champion Texas Rangers have to wait to find out when they will play at home again. Theyve already had a record-setting season at Rangers Ballpark. Yorvit Torrealba hit two of Texas four home runs, including a grand slam, in a 12-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday as the Rangers matched a franchise record with their 52nd home win in their final regular-season game in Arlington. With three games left before the post-season begins, Texas stayed a game ahead of AL Central champion Detroit for the second-best record in the American League and home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. "Home-field advantage definitely matters," said Ian Kinsler, who had the two-run homer that put the Rangers ahead to stay. "I dont know how much. It kind of depends on the team and the team that youre playing. Wed love to play games at home. "If we are or arent, I dont think its going to affect us that great. But wed love to play at home." Adrian Beltre also homered for the Rangers (93-66), who have to finish ahead of the Tigers to open the playoffs at home on Friday. The Rangers wrap up the regular season with three games at the Los Angeles Angels, who could still win the wild card. Detroit plays three games at home against Cleveland. With a crowd of 43,508 on Sunday, Texas also set a franchise record for season attendance with 2,946,949 in its 51st season. And it came during one of the hottest summers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including 27 games at Rangers Ballpark when the temperature was 38 C or more at first pitch. "I think its pretty amazing when you consider the record heat that weve had here in the Metropelex and all over Texas this year to set the all-time attendance record," team president Nolan Ryan said. "Its a shame that we had to endure the heat. ... The team has played extremely well under those conditions and I think it speaks volumes for our fans that were willing to come out and endure the heat and put themselves in that situation. We are truly appreciative of that." The only other time the Rangers won 52 games at home was 1978. Derek Holland (16-5) pitched his scheduled five innings and matched C.J. Wilson with his team-high 16th victory. The left-hander gave up three runs on a pair of homers while striking out seven and walking one. "It was pretty good. He got a first-pitch fastball up to (Chris) Gimenez and today the ball was flying. Then he made a mistake to (Alex) Liddi. Other than that, I thought he did extremely well," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "Hes growing leaps and bounds, getting better each time he takes the ball." Holland has won five consecutive decisions over his past six starts and is 10-1 with a 2.77 earned-run average over his past 15 starts. Wilson will start the playoff opener and Holland will be part of the four-man post-season rotation, though Washington isnt ready to say in which slot. Mike Carp, Kyle Seager, Gimenez and Liddi all homered for Seattle, which played its last road game. Kinsler had a leadoff walk in the fifth before stealing second and third, extending his team record to 28 consecutive successful attempts. That streak ended when he was caught stealing to end the sixth after a pitchout. After his two stolen bases gave him 29 for the season, Kinsler scored when Esteban German hit a liner that was misplayed by centre-fielder Trayvon Robinson and rolled to the wall. Two days after Craig Gentrys inside-the-park home run for Texas, German sprinted around the bases and scored for a 6-3 lead while fireworks were shot off as they are for homers at Rangers Ballpark. But the official scorer gave German a sacrifice fly and charged Robinson with a rare four-base error. "Thats a ball he has to catch," manager Eric Wedge said. "It looked like he picked his head up to throw home or to third base." Kinslers two-run shot in the third off rookie left-hander Charlie Furbush (4-10) snapped a 1-1 tie and put Texas ahead to stay before Mike Napoli added an RBI single later in the inning. It was the 31st homer for Kinsler, equaling a career high for the Rangers leadoff hitter. Beltre led off the second with his 30th homer, hitting the ninth pitch he got onto the hill in centre. It was his 10th homer in his past 13 games. Furbush allowed six runs, five earned, and six hits over 4 1-3 innings. He struck out four and walked one. NOTES: Texas finished 15-4 against Seattle. ... The only Rangers player with more September homers than Beltre was Alex Rodriguez, who had 11 in 2001. ... Beltres only other 30-homer season was 2004, when he had 48 for the Los Angeles Dodgers. ... Wilson (16-7) makes his last scheduled start of the regular season Monday night against the Angels. Washington said Wilson will throw "maybe three innings." ... Seattle LHP Jason Vargas goes for his career-high 10th victory Monday at home against Oakland. ... Seattle finished 28-50 on the road. The Mariners got three extra games at home when Florida had to play its three-game "home" series in Seattle because of a scheduling conflict. Swansea capitalized on the 80th-minute sending-off of substitute Fabio Da Silva by scoring in the last minute through Wilfried Bony in a 2-1 win at United, the latest setback for David Moyes in his turbulent first season with the English champions. United has lost four of its last six games at Old Trafford in all competitions and failed to reach the fourth round for only the second time in 30 years. "We had another big game in 48 hours time so we have to keep that in mind (but) no excuse," said Moyes, referring to the first leg of a League Cup semifinal against Sunderland on Tuesday. "We had a strong team out. Nearly every player out there was an international." Like United, West Ham used a lineup full of reserves ahead of its League Cup semifinal against Manchester City on Wednesday, and the gamble backfired. The injury-hit Premier League struggler was crushed 5-0 at second-tier Nottingham Forest in the third rounds biggest shock. "We had a huge amount of problems in terms of the available members of the squad so Ive got to keep them intact, thats a major priority," said West Ham manager Sam Allardyce, who was already under pressure with his team next to last in the league. "Many, many managers have changed the team in all divisions, but my changes had to be severe. I didnt want it to be but it had to be." Chelsea and Liverpool played stronger lineups -- and it showed. Second-half goals by John Obi Mikel and Oscar earned Chelsea a 2-0 victory at Derby, while Liverpool avenged last seasons surprise defeat to third-tier Oldham in this competition by winning 2-0 at Anfield thanks to Iago Aspas first goal for the club and an own goal by James Tarkowski. That game also saw Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers go up against his own son, Anton, who plays for Oldham and came on as a second-half substitute. "Ive seen Antons life from when he was a young footballer and to see him run out there was a bit surreal really," Rodgers said. Sunderland beat third-tier Carlisle 3-1 in the other thiird-round match featuring a Premier League team.dddddddddddd The fear factor about visiting Old Trafford has disappeared since Alex Ferguson left United last summer and Swansea was the latest team to take advantage, recording its first win at the home of the champions. "Lets not kid ourselves, its a really bad result," United midfielder Darren Fletcher said. The Welsh side was helped by Moyes picking a shadow team that was missing injured strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, as well as senior players Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Michael Carrick. And Wayne Routledge put Swansea ahead in the 12th minute, running onto Alejandro Pozuelos through ball and lobbing goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard. Javier Hernandez turned in Alexander Buttners cross four minutes later for the equalizer, and Moyes said he was disappointed not to see his team kick on from then. Fabio was given a straight red card for a studs-first lunge at Jose Canas, just four minutes after coming on as a substitute, and Bony made United pay by rising to head in Routledges left-wing cross to cap an impressive performance. "In my world, they are still a big team and for us to beat them, we still have to do a very good performance," Swansea manager Michael Laudrup said. Allardyce fielded an unrecognizable starting XI featuring a host of youth-team players at The City Ground and they collapsed in the second half. Djamel Abdouns goal gave Forest a 1-0 lead at halftime before Jamie Paterson scored a hat trick and Andy Reid completed the humiliation with the fifth in injury time. West Hams lineup further highlights the FA Cups increasing lack of appeal in the eyes of many top clubs nowadays but Allardyce made no apologies and knows there may be repercussions. "There might be, who knows?" Allardyce said. "Im not saying it wont happen unless I start to get results. I have got to get results, I know that." The depth of Chelseas squad shone through as Mikel headed home Willians free kick in the 66th minute for only his fourth goal for the club in 300 appearances, before Brazil playmaker Oscar struck a fierce shot in at the near post five minutes later. Chelsea will host Stoke in the fourth round while Liverpool must travel to Bournemouth or Burton. ' ' '

Watch all the action unfold live on TSN or listen to it live on TSN Radio 1050 beginning at 7pm et/4pm pt. Raptors forward Amir Johnson (sprained ankle) participated in the shootaround and expects to play. The Raptors have won two straight and five of their last six. The only setback during that time was a home loss to the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday, but the Raps have dropped two of their last three on the road. Toronto had little trouble dispatching the Orlando Magic Sunday night, winning by a final of 105-90. Kyle Lowry didnt miss a shot in the game-altering third, scoring 17 of his 28 points in the frame. The Raptors won the period 36-24 to take command of the game. DeMar DeRozan provided 24 points, Terrence Ross added 16 and Amir Johnson had 12 for the Raptors, whose 52.3 percent efficiency from the field offset 24 turnovers. "We keep coming out sluggish and turn it on later," Raptors head coach Dwane Casey said. "We just have to be able to do it for the whole 48 minutes." A Raptors win tonight would clinch a winning record for a third consecutive month, a feat that hasnt happened since 2007.dddddddddddd The Cavs have dropped two in a row after a season-high six-game winning streak. Clevelands losing streak started in Toronto on Friday night when the Raps won by seven. On Monday, the Cavaliers fell to the hot Washington Wizards, 96-83 at home. Luol Deng scored 17 points and newly-acquired Spencer Hawes added 16 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for the Cavaliers, who had a three-game home winning streak snapped. Tristan Thompson also had a double-double in defeat with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Kyrie Irving donated 15 points in defeat. "There are so many things we have to figure out -- new pieces, guys missing -- but were not going to use that as an excuse. Time is of the essence right now, especially when we want to do something special here," Irving said. The Cavs have held their opponents under 100 points for seven straight games, the longest stretch since a seven-gamer over the first two weeks of March in 2010. The Raptors are 8-4 in their last 12 against the Cavaliers, but only 4-12 in their last 16 in Cleveland. ' ' '

Prior to the start of this season, the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers had very different expectations. The Oilers fan base was expecting the teams first playoff berth since the 2005-2006 season while the Flames were entering a franchise rebuild after trading cornerstone Jarome Iginla at the trade deadline the previous season and losing long-time starting goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff to retirement. On Saturday night, the Flames skated to an 8-1 romp over the Oilers in Edmonton, leaving many to wonder which team was further ahead in the race for the playoffs next season. Not surprisingly, the Flames currently sit well outside of a playoff spot with most fans showing the patience and support for the rebuild that president of hockey operations and interim general manager Brian Burke has asked for. The Oilers, on the other hand, now sit last in the Western Conference, six points behind the Flames and mathematically eliminated from the playoffs with a fan base fed up with a fifth straight losing season. President of hockey operations Kevin Lowe pronounced the team to be "poised for greatness" last season, yet that greatness remains to be seen. With both team already looking toward next season, the question in the Battle of Alberta is which team will make the playoffs first: the Flames or the Oilers? On paper, it would appear the advantage is with the Oilers. The team has three former first-overall draft picks on their roster and two other first-round picks in Sam Gagner and Jordan Eberle. Their goaltending tandem is set for next season with Ben Scrivens and Viktor Fasth and the team has their 2013 first-round pick, Darnell Nurse, developing in the OHL. However, the Oilers recent struggles has surrounded the team with question marks, including entertaining thoughts of trading one of the young stars to meet another need. The Flames appear to be on a much steadier course, trusting in Burke to put together a team that will enter the playoffs in the near future. Burkes history with rebuilding the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs inspires confidence that, with time, the team will reach the playoffs. Burke also put the finishing touches on the Anaheim Ducks that propelled them to a Stanley Cup. "I think I add a value. Ive been able to fix just about every team Ive worked for, sometimes quicker than others." Burke said when he was introduced as a member of Flames organization. Burke also inspired confidence with his 2013 first-round draft pick Sean Monahan. Monahan is second on the Flames in goals this season with 19 and fifth on the team in total points with 31. Both the Oilers and Flames will likely be in the draft lottery this season with a chance to select first overall, a disappointment for Edmonton and an expectation for Calgary. "Im an impatient guy. We have to do some bold things to move this team forward in a rapid fashion. We have to a better job arming our coaches and our core players with a group to get us to a highly-competitive level," Craig MacTavish said when he was introduced was the Oilers general manager last season. Moving forward, the Battle of Alberta may be turning into a race to see which team will make the playoffs first. Will the Flames steady rebuild pay off with a post-season entrance before the Oilers find a solution to their recent woes? Or will the Oilers embarrassment of young talent come together and deliver the playoff appearance fans are growing restless for? So, which team will make the playoffs first: the Oilers or Flames? The shockwave of all shockwaves was delivered yesterday afternoon from the tranquil surrounding of Stamford University when Landon Donovan, a player with over 150 international caps and three previous World Cup Finals to his name, was left off the 23-man US squad. No word on hearing the news if Donovan trashed his room as Paul Gascoigne did on learning he had not made the final cut for France 1998, but his exclusion has led to the opinion makers and insiders of US soccer trash Klinsmanns decision. Dumbfounded likely best describes the mood of the nation right now. This for a player who sent the US into delirium when he scored the very late winner against Algeria in the final group game at South Africa 2010, as the US topped their group ahead of England. Jürgen Klinsmann described the decision as the most difficult he has had to make as a coach. The US head coach, who faced the media glare at a press conference earlier today, stated Donovan would be the first player he would recall if an injury rules out one of his strikers between now, and the deadline for naming squads June 2nd. However if any player suffers a serious injury, which is confirmed by FIFAs medical department, between then and their nations first group game they can be replaced. The US kick-off their campaign against Ghana June 16th. Donovan has told Klinsmann he is willing to remain on the standby list. Now back with his club, the player who more than anyone else has moved the soccer conscience of a Nation, is likely to feature in the Galaxys home date with the Philadelphia Union Sunday night. Just as Donovan was going through his paces in training on what turned out to be his penultimate day in camp Wednesday, Luis Suárez was in a Montevideo operating theatre following an MRI which had revealed meniscus damage to his left knee. Suárez had to withdraw from training earlier in the day after complaining of pain. In a statement released yesterday by the Uruguayan Football Association which announced the surgery was successful, it pinpointed an incident which occurred late on in Liverpools final game of the season. A reckless challenge from Newcastles Paul Dummett on the BPLs player of the year, which Dummett was red carded for and Suárez was left clutching his knee. In no time at all a connection with that incident led to Dummett receiving death threats on social media. Meanwhile Suárez was reassuring an anxious nation that he would be fit for the World Cup as he tweeted out his thanks for the outpouring of support he has received since the surgery. With no clear timeframe for recovery the Uruguayan FA are fully optimistic Suárez will bee fit to play in what would be his second World Cup Finals.dddddddddddd At South Africa 2010 Uruguay was the undoubted surprise team as they made it through to the semifinals before succumbing to Holland 3-2. Suárez though was suspended from that game after receiving a red card in the quarter-final against Ghana following an incident that undoubtedly goes down in World Cup infamy. A deliberate hand ball on the goal line by Suarez prevented a certain goal in the final minute. In doing so it denied Ghana an almost certain place in World Cup history as the first African nation to make it to the semi-finals. With the score deadlocked 1-1 after extra time, Uruguay prevailed on penalties. No one needs reminding of other disturbing incidents that have plagued and haunted Suárez since then. This season not only was he in the form of his career his behaviour has undergone a complete transition and improvement no one could have imagined. Suárez has credited this to the time he has spent this season with renowned Sports Psychologist Dr. Steve Peters and was seen as pivotal for the unprecedented success achieved by the Team GB cyclists at London 2012. Peters is now a significant part of the 70-strong staff of the England team that has conducted a mini camp in the Algarve, Portugal this week. Tuesday night after dinner he addressed the entire squad. When Roy Hodgson announced back in March, Peters would be part of the English set up, many ridiculed that decision. Following Tuesdays session Wayne Rooney was left suitably impressed, and so much so he intends to meet with Peters on a one to one basis. Rooney will be the first to admit that outside of his international tournament debut at EURO 2004 he has underperformed in all subsequent tournaments. The indelible image of Rooney at South Africa 2010 is not of a wonder goal. Its of a very agitated looking Rooney aiming a tirade of abuse at England fans into a pitch side camera due to the booing the players received at the final whistle following a pitiful performance against Algeria. The player Sven-Göran Eriksson once described as an English Pelé is fully aware this could be his last World Cup to leave a lasting legacy. Such is Rooneys desire to regain full physical fitness after suffering a groin injury that kept him out of Manchester Uniteds last 3 league matches of the season he arrived in the Algarve ahead of the main party accompanied not by his WAG but 2 private fitness instructors. Working on the mental preparation he believes will provide him with a crucial few extra percent. In doing so should provide Rooney with the added confidence to finally be that difference maker on a world stage. A stage which Landon Donovan should be, and Luis Suárez hopefully will be, a significant part of. ' ' '

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Steven Stamkos called it an "uncharacteristic hat trick." Even though one of the goals counted for the other team. Stamkos scored twice for Tampa Bay and overcame putting another goal in his own net as the Lightning beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 in overtime Saturday night. "Its a tough bounce, but we responded," Stamkos said. "We get a power play after that and tie it up and that was a good push back from us." With the game tied at 2, a delayed penalty to Cory Conacher drew Lightning goalie Ben Bishop to the bench for an extra attacker, but Stamkos back pass missed Michael Kostka and bounced off the boards in the neutral zone before gliding into the empty net. "I dont know if he took a puck and had 10 of them in a practice if he could throw it in," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "Gosh, that was tough to watch. And when the puck goes down the ice, of course its like going in slow motion." And for Stamkos, who would later score the winner in overtime, it was the first time seeing an "own goal" in person. "Ive seen it a couple times, never live," Stamkos said. "You see it on the highlights. Im sure Ill make them now in the un-top 10, but as soon as it went over our Ds stick I knew it had a pretty good chance to go in." Alex Killorn and Ryan Callahan also scored for the Lightning, who have earned at least a point in 11 consecutive games. With the win, Tampa Bay remained two points behind Montreal for second place in the Atlantic Division after the Canadiens beat Florida 4-1. Matt DAgostini, Cody Hodgson and Cory Conacher scored for Buffalo, which finished March with a 2-11-1 record. The first period had little flow, with Buffalos failed power play near the midpoint the only time either team threatened to score. That changed at the 12:20 mark, as DAgostini freely carried the puck over the Lightning blue line before firing a point blank wrist shot over the right shoulder of Bishop to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead. Rasmus Ristolainen and Johan Larsson picked up assists on the goal, giving the rookies points in back-to-back nights for the first time in their careers. Buffalo doubled its advantage at the 14:07 mark when Zemgus Girgensons stripped Kostka deep in the Tampa Bay zone, and Christian Ehrhoffs slap shot was redirected into the goal by Hodgson. Girgensons played his first game since missing 11 with a lower-body injury. The lead wouldnt last the rest of the period. Tampa Bay picked up its first goal on Killorns shot that beat Matt Hackett between the legs. Killorns 16th of the season came at the 17:52 mark, and Stamkos scored the tying goal with 14 seconds to play. Bishop was called upon to make a pair of trio of stops four minutes into the second period, as he stopped Tyler Ennis once and Brian Flynn twice before Victor Hedman took a penalty for forcing the net off the moorings. Then came the Stamkos own-goal, and Conacher was given credit for it as the last Sabres player to touch the puck. Conacher was traded from Tampa Bay to Ottawa along with a fourth-round pick for Bishop in April 2013. Bishop recounted watching the puck go in the net from the bench. "It was kinda funny, actually," Bishop said. "One of those things that just happened, thats the first time Ive ever seen it live." Trailing 3-2 and already on the power play, Tampa Bay received a 60-second two-man advantage when Mike Weber took a cross-checking penalty. Its the sort of play Sabres interim head coach Ted Nolan is trying to eliminate from his young team. "You want to see how certain people react," Nolan said. "The one penalty we take to make it 5-on-3, theres no need to cross-check someone in the back of the head twice. Thats just a bad, bad penalty." The Lightning only needed 52 seconds to capitalize. Playing in front of family and friends, Rochester, N.Y., native Callahan tapped in a cross-crease pass from Teddy Purcell to tie it at 3 at 10:07. "I was a Sabres fan, so its definitely nice to come in here and play," Callahan said. The Sabres had several shots at a winning goal with just over five minutes to play, but Bishop made several saves before referee Dave Jackson lost sight of the puck and blew his whistle. Two minutes later, Larssons attempt at an empty net was deflected out of play by Eric Brewers outreached stick. Drew Stafford took a hooking penalty in overtime, and Stamkos walked in from the point to put the winning goal past Hackett. NOTES: Tampa Bay outshot Buffalo 33-28. ... SAN JOSE, Calif. -- When Tommy Wingels scored a fluky, short-handed goal in the opening minutes, it was clear this was going to be San Joses night. Wingels scored two goals and Antti Niemi shut Montreal out for the second time this season in the Sharks 4-0 victory over the Canadiens on Saturday night. Wingels opened the scoring with a short-handed goal after Peter Budaj misplayed a shot from centre ice and added another on a deflection to lead the way for the Sharks. "That was a fortunate bounce for us," Wingels said of his first goal. "Well take it. It kind of gave us some momentum in the first there." Matt Nieto also scored and Logan Couture had a goal and two assists for the Sharks, who have won seven straight home games against Montreal since last losing here to the Canadiens in 1999. Niemi made 27 saves to follow up his 2-0 victory in Montreal in October with another shutout as San Jose moved within four points of first-place Anaheim in the Pacific Division. "We want to win our division," Couture said. "That was one of our goals from the start of the year and were close." Budaj was knocked out after allowing two goals in less than 22 minutes as Montreal lost for the third time in four games on a road trip to Arizona and California. "It was a frustrating game and a frustrating road trip," captain Brian Gionta said. "We wanted something better out of it." San Jose took control of the game in a dominant second period, getting goals from Wingels and Nieto in the first half of the period to go up 3-0. Wingels second goal of the game came when a point shot from Matt Nieto hit the inside of his leg on the way into the goal. That led coach Michel Therrien to give an early hook to Budaj, who allowed two goals on the first 11 shots. The change to Dustin Tokarski failed to generate the spark Therrien was seeking as the Sharks continued to attack with the two-goal lead and expanded it when Patrick Marleau set up Nieto for a one-timer from the slot midway through the period. Nieto set up Couture for his 18th goal in the opening minute of the third period to put the game out of reaach.dddddddddddd Niemi, making consecutive starts for the first time since Feb. 1-3, was not tested often but was up to the task when challenged, including an early pad save on P.K. Subban and on a short-handed breakaway by Tomas Plekanec late in the third. Niemi has struggled a bit of late and had his playing time cut back as San Jose started backup Alex Stalock in three of the first four games after the Olympic break. But he followed up a 5-3 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday night with another shutout against the Canadiens. "Nemo had to make some saves early, and then he had to make a couple late to maintain the shutout," coach Todd McLellan said. "I thought he was very calm, very solid again." The Sharks got a fortunate break to take a 1-0 lead early in the first period with James Sheppard in the penalty box for tripping. Couture shot the puck in from centre ice that got caught between Budajs pads. Instead of freezing the puck for a faceoff, Budaj stood up and tried to play it but Wingels raced in and poked it into the net for San Joses second short-handed goal in as many games. "We were on the power play and I wanted to play it right away to help and not have a faceoff in our own end," Budaj said. "I didnt have a look to see the player was coming. Thats my mistake." The Sharks werent nearly as effective on their three power plays that included 21 seconds of a two-man advantage. They struggled to get set up in the offensive zone and were sloppy with their passes, generating only one shot on goal in those three opportunities. The power play has been a problem for San Jose in recent weeks with the team going 2-for-48 over the past 15 games. NOTES: Sharks F Raffi Torres got called for boarding on a hard shoulder check into Lars Eller in the second period. Jarred Tinordi took exception and started a fight, negating any power play for the Canadiens. ... Montreal D Douglas Murray got a warm ovation in his first game back in San Jose since being traded by the Sharks to Pittsburgh last March. He delivered an early hit on Nieto and also was on the receiving end of one from Brent Burns. ' ' '

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Apparently, new LSU offensive co-ordinator Cam Cameron is doing something right. Zach Mettenbergers single-game school record five touchdown passes against UAB attested to that. Three of Mettenbergers scoring strikes went to Odell Beckham Jr., who also returned a missed field goal 100 yards for a score, and the ninth-ranked Tigers overwhelmed the Blazers 56-17 on Saturday night. Mettenberger, who had 12 TD passes in all of 2012, has six through this seasons first two games, and credited both the athleticism of his receivers and the confidence hes gained from working with Cameron, who returned to college last winter after more than a decade in the NFL. "He knows the talent we have on this team offensively," Mettenberger said. "We are going to stick to the passing game. Obviously we showed tonight that if we execute like we did tonight that there is all the reason to have confidence in us." In most seasons since Les Miles took over in 2005, LSU has been a power running team with a deep stable of ball carriers. One exception would have been 2006, when Jamarcus Russell was throwing to Dwayne Bowe, Craig Davis and Early Doucet. Now its Mettenberger building what looks like prolific chemistry with Beckham and Jarvis Landry. "You get a lot of opportunities in this offensive system," Beckham said. "Coach Cam has instilled in us a different mentality. ... Its just crazy. I never would expect it to be the way it is and its just phenomenal to be a part of." The running backs were still involved, of course. Jeremy Hill made his season debut for LSU (2-0) when coach Les Miles decided early in the second quarter to end the running backs benching in connection with his arrest in a bar scuffle last spring. After sitting out a game and a quarter, Hill rushed for a 3-yard touchdown on his first carry and wound up rushing six times for 50 yards. "I wanted to get him going," Miles said. "Theres a guy that has been away from his team for four months and not really in great shape. If you look at him, you can kind of tell. We wanted to get his timing and running the ball going." The Blazers (0-2) came in with a perfect record in Death Valley -- a stunning 13-10 last second win in their only other visit in 2000. It wasnt long before the Tigers put to rest any notion of that happening again. "They made plays. The loss was tough and it was painful," UAB linebacker Jake Ganus said. "We have a good game plan, but I think we need to execute it better." Beckham, who also returned a punt 60 yards to set up Kenny Hilliards 1-yard TD run, finished with 331 all-purpose yards. Mettenberger was 16 of 19 for 282 yards and was not intercepted. Beckhams 136 yards and three TDs receiving were both career highs. Landry, who had five catches for 71 yards, caught two touchdown passes, leaping and reaching high to snag his 24-yard score. Mettenberger put the ball where only Landry had a chance at it, out of the reach of a defensive back undercutting the route. Beckham had only two 100-yard receiving games as a sophomore last season. He has two in his first two games this season. The Tigers marched 89 yards in only five plays on their second series, thanks in large part to three catches for 87 yards by Beckham. His 49-yard reception set up his 29-yard score on a hard throw by Mettenberger, who hit his target in stride as two helpless defenders converged. Beckham started LSUs next drive with a 15-yard run on an end-around and finished it with a 22-yard TD catch. UAB reserve quarterback Jonathan Perry fumbled near his own 20 early in the second quarter, setting up Hills TD, which made it 28-0. Darren Reaves scored UABs first touchdown on a 12-yard run in the second quarter. Receiver Jamarcus Nelson added a 41-yard touchdown catch from Austin Brown that pulled UAB to 35-14. The Blazers added a field goal as time expired in the first half to get as close as 35-17. "There was a stretch in that game in the second quarter where we played pretty good football against one of the top programs in the country," UAB coach Garrick McGee said. "Then, we came out in the third quarter, we dropped some balls, we made some missed assignments, we didnt compete as hard." LSU responded with Beckhams third touchdown catch on a precision 27-yard pass to the corner of the end zone. But the highlight of Beckhams night, even if the game was in hand by then, may have come when he camped out in the back of the end zone for Ty Longs 59-yard field goal attempt. He told teammates before the play to be ready to block if he was able to run it out. He caught it deep in the end zone, and by the time the Blazers realized it, Beckham was sprinting down the left sideline with blockers in front of him. "He has a want to make a big play. Its a feel," Miles said. "Guys like Morris Claiborne or guys like Tyrann Mathieu that say we have to make a play -- I think he has the same penchant to say hey, I want to make this play." cheap nfl jerseys . The defending Super Bowl champion Ravens are wobbling. Jason Campbell threw three touchdown passes -- two to Davone Bess -- and the Browns ended an 11-game losing streak against Baltimore, beating the Ravens 24-18 on Sunday. Campbells 3-yard pass to Bess on fourth down with three minutes left helped the Browns (4-5) seal their first win over Baltimore since 2007. A week ago, Bess dropped a pass in a similar situation in the closing minutes of a loss at Kansas City. The Ravens (3-5) lost their third straight and didnt win in the week following a bye for the first time in six tries under coach John Harbaugh. Baltimores Joe Flacco had a pair of TD passes to rookie Marlon Brown, but the Super Bowl MVP couldnt rally the Ravens, who made too many mistakes and are in danger of missing the playoffs. Making his second straight start after Brandon Weeden was benched, Campbell completed 23 of 35 passes for 262 yards. The nine-year veteran was at his best in the closing minutes, when the Browns ran 6:30 off the clock to finish off the Ravens, who have lost four of five. Campbell, who briefly left the game in the first half with a rib injury, evaded pressure before making his big completion to Bess and later alertly flipped the ball to running back Chris Ogbonnaya to set up Billy Cundiffs 22-yard field goal with 14 seconds left to put the Browns ahead by six. The Ravens had one last chance, but running back Ray Rice was tackled near midfield as the Browns beat Baltimore for the first time since Flacco and Harbaugh arrived. Browns wide receiver Greg Little had seven catches for 122 yards. Flacco finished 24 of 41 for 250 yards, but Baltimores offence sputtered most of the game against Clevelands vastly improved defence. Down 21-10 and running out of time, Flacco connected with Brown for a 7-yard TD with 12:09 left and then hit him again foor the 2-point conversion to cut Clevelands lead to three.dddddddddddd Tandon Doss, who earlier fumbled away a punt, set up the score with a 36-yard return that sparked the Ravens. But it was the Browns who made the big plays in the closing minutes, none more important than Bess grab as coach Rob Chudzinski went for it on fourth down with 3:12 left. The Browns capitalized on a muffed punt by Doss to open a 21-10 lead in the third as Campbell threw a 4-yard TD pass to Gary Barnidge with 5:11 left. Baltimores defence, missing Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, was uncharacteristically confused during the sequence as the Ravens were penalized for having 12 men on the field and Barnidge was able to slip away from the line uncovered. After looking dysfunctional for most of the first half, the Ravens came alive in the final minute and pulled to 14-10 on Flaccos 19-yard TD pass to Brown, an undrafted free agent, with nine seconds left. Campbells second TD pass to Bess gave the Browns a 14-3 lead in the second quarter. On 3rd-and-3 from the 20, Campbell a hit a wide-open Bess over the middle and the wide receiver did the rest, faking out cornerback Lardarius Webb at the 10 before sprinting into the end zone and then celebrating by slapping hands with Browns fans reaching over the railing. A week ago, Bess had a hard time finding any friends in Cleveland. His critical fumble on a punt return and a dropped pass in the final minutes denied the Browns any chance of rallying to upset the unbeaten Chiefs. Bess, who entered the game tied for the league lead in drops, didnt make any excuses for the miserable performance and vowed to atone for his mistakes. In the first quarter, Bess caught a 1-yard TD pass from Campbell, fighting off two defenders to haul in the throw at the goal line after Chudzinski rolled the dice and went for it on 4th-and-goal. The Ravens trimmed Clevelands lead to 7-3 on Justin Tuckers 51-yard field goal. ' ' '

Instead, he held a tight grip on the Cincinnati Reds offence to end the Cubs eight-game losing streak.TORONTO - Three weeks ago DeMar DeRozan was happily taking advantage of a flawed partnership with Rudy Gay. The Raptors two leading scorers were never able to co-exist the way they hoped or the team had envisioned, but individually DeRozan was thriving, in the midst of a career season. During his brief tenure, Gays presence meant far more to his team, to DeRozan, than his sub-par production. Despite his poor shot selection and declining percentages, the former Raptors forward consistently topped the oppositions scouting report, drawing the attention of their best defender(s) and making the game a whole lot easier for his emerging sidekick. No longer Robin to Gays Batman, DeRozan has assumed the lead role and is embracing the added responsibility that comes with it. "Lately Ive been trying to do a lot of different things," DeRozan told TSN.ca last week. "Getting my teammates involved, trying to rebound, trying to get steals, do a lot of other things that keep me going that probably before I didnt used to do." "I let my shot [dictate] my game, but now I just trust my teammates. I just try to go out there and do other stuff because I know I can be a decoy with how much of the defence I draw." For all his ability and the consequential attention it would attract, Gay was never willing to be a decoy in Toronto, at least not consistently. He was too prideful, a result of the self-imposed expectations that come with a max salary in the NBA. The moment had to be his, which to him meant the shot had to be his. Opposing defences feasted on that predictability and more often than not DeRozan became the forgotten man. A career 26 per cent three-point shooter, DeRozan was firing the long-ball at a 37 per cent clip in 18 games before Gay was dealt to Sacramento earlier in the month. In his fifth season, DeRozan was averaging career-highs across the board but his growth and maturity has become most evident in the aftermath of the trade. Despite the added responsibility in 10 games since the trade, his shot attempts have not increased (17.9 per game, up from 17.7) and his scoring average has dipped just slightly (20.5 points per game from 21.4). Instead, his assists (4.5 per contest, from 2.7) and rebounding numbers (4.7, from 2.7) have gone up. The ball is moving more than it has in a long time, the team is playing together, winning together and DeRozans fingerprints are all over it. The Raptors are 9-2 when DeRozan registers four or more assists this season. "I understand a lot of teams, mostly all the teams are going to key [in on] me so I use that to my advantage and just try to get my teammates going," he said after matching a career-high with nine assists in the overtime win against Dallas on December 20th. ;Hes not cowering from the defensive pressure hes facing, hes also not trying to do too much.dddddddddddd "[Teams are] showing him a lot of respect, trying to get the ball out of his hands," Dwane Casey said of the 24-year-old guard. "Hes done an excellent job of passing out of it. His scoring average will probably go down a little bit but its going to help someone else." So far, sophomore Terrence Ross has been the primary beneficiary. The Raptors second-year guard, whose playing time has increased by over 10 minutes per game since the trade, is excelling in the starting lineup alongside DeRozan on the wing. Although DeRozans three-point percentage has plummeted without Gay in the lineup - shooting 19 per cent from long distance over the last 10 games - Ross has seen his go from 34 per cent pre-trade to 48 per cent since, setting a new career-high with seven-made triples (on 11 attempts) in Saturdays win over the Knicks. "I think its helped T-Ross," Casey said, "because [teams are] double teaming [DeRozan] and leaving him open." "Im just taking what the defence gives me," added Ross, who is averaging 14.4 points in nine contests as a starter. "DeMar [has been] consistent all year, he can go out and score in different ways and it kind of opens up things for me, Kyle (Lowry), Jonas (Valanciunas) and everybody else." His shots have been reminiscent of those DeRozan got, and made consistently earlier in the campaign, many of them coming from the corner. The corner three is the most efficient shot in basketball and the 21-year-old is perfecting it. Ross ranks 11th in the NBA, knocking down 24 corner threes this season while shooting them at a 49 per cent clip. He leads the association with 16 corner threes made since December 8th, when the Gay trade was consummated, shooting a remarkable 55 per cent from that region. Ross is developing a niche, one that could see him become increasingly valuable to the Raptors attack and its all predicated on the leadership of the teams best player. "Hes just playing with confidence," DeRozan said of Ross, his protégé. "I tell him, dont go out there second guessing yourself. You have the ability to do anything on that court, you jump higher than everybody on that court, youre a great shooter, you could do so much just use it and dont worry about messing up so much. Thats what hes doing." "I know I can score, I can get up shots when I need to but I look at it like, let me use myself to get Terrence an open shot or use myself to free up Kyle or create a shot for somebody else," he continued. "Thats what its all about because I know I draw so much attention, I just use that to my benefit." ' ' '

MILAN, Italy -- Carlos Tevez scored twice to move top of the Serie A scoring charts and help league leader Juventus beat 10-man Parma 2-1 for a record 15th home win on Wednesday. Tevez has now scored 18 league goals in his first season at Juventus following his move from Manchester City. "Better than this is impossible, but the important thing is that the team won," Tevez said Cristian Molinaro reduced the deficit but Parma striker Amauri was sent off three minutes later. Despite the numerical disadvantage Parma almost snatched a draw but Molinaro was denied by a goal-line clearance and the visitors had strong penalty appeals turned down. "I dont know if it was a penalty, those who understand football know how to judge it," Parma coach Roberto Donadoni said. "I think sometimes you have to take into account players tricks, but you only have a matter of seconds to do that on the pitch." Juventus restored its 14-point advantage over Roma, which beat Torino 2-1 on Tuesday and has played a game less than its rivals. Napoli moved six points behind Roma with a 4-2 win at Catania and boosted its chances of securing the final Champions League spot as Fiorentina lost 2-0 at home to AC Milan. Mario Balotelli set up one goal and scored the other to help under-fire boss Clarence Seedorf, who was reportedly on the verge of the sack before last weekends draw at Lazio. "And some people say I wont even be going to the World Cup," Balotelli said. "This victory didnt save anyone, because there wasnt anyone to save. The dressing room is united. Of course, were upset because we wont get into the Champions League and maybe not into the Europa League either, but not disunited." Atalanta maintained its push for a Europa League spot as it beat Livorno 2-0 and leapfrogged Lazio into seventh after the capital side lost 2-0 at Genoa. Also, it was: Chievo Verona 3, Bologna 0; Sassuolo 1, Sampdoria 2; and Cagliari 1, Hellas Verona 0. Juventus had won all 14 of its home league matches this season, while Parma was on a club record unbeaten run of 17 matches. Tevez broke the deadlock in the 25th minute with a powerful run down the right, holding off Gabriel Paletta before slotting a low effort into the near side of the net. It was his 17th goal of the season and an immediate response to Ciro Immobile after the Torino striker reached that tally against Roma. And the Argentina forward moved solo atop the scoring charts seven minutes later. Tevez found Arturo Vidal on the right and then raced into the area to tap home after the Chilean internationals cross-shot was parried by Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante. Parma got back into the match shortly after the hour mark with a fantastic volley from Molinaro on the edge of the area but Amauri was harshly adjudged to have elbowed Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini shortly afterward. Molinaro almost levelled near the end but Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon parried his effort and Leonardo Bonucci cleared in a goalmouth scramble. Parma appealed heavily for a penalty for a foul on Marco Parolo but to no avail. In Sicily, Napoli gave Catania an early warning as it had three good opportunities in the opening five minutes. And it took the lead in the 16th minute. Marek Hamsik found Jose Maria Callejon on the right and he crossed for Duvan Zapata to tap in for his first league goal. Callejon doubled the visitors advantage before Henrique scored his first Napoli goal with a strike from the tightest of angles. Zapata all but sealed the match on the stroke of halftime although Catania attempted a comeback in the second period as defenders Fabian Monzon and Norbert Gyomber also scored their debut league goals. Fiorentina forward Alessandro Matri, who is on loan from Milan missed a couple of early chances against his old team and it was the under-fire visitors which took a surprise lead in the 23rd minute. Balotelli had been dropped for the weekend draw against Lazio but he returned to the starting lineup and fired in a free kick which was parried by Neto but straight to Philippe Mexes, who headed in. Balotelli doubled Milans advantage with another free kick into the top right corner from 20 yards in the 64th minute. Fifth-place Inter Milan could close the gap on Fiorentina to just one point with victory at home to Udinese on Thursday. Parma is currently level on points with Inter, with Atalanta four points below the final Europa League spot following a club record fifth consecutive win. wholesale nfl jerseys . The No. 5 Aztecs held Burton, the Mountain Wests leading scorer, to 11 points, 10 below his average, in beating the Wolf Pack 73-58 on Saturday night. "When you are playing half court and they are doing their pressing, run and jump defence, they really did a good job of helping on him," Nevada coach David Carter said. "Youve got to give them credit, too. He was looking for it but they played good defence and really got us out of rhythm." Xavier Thames scored 17 points, Winston Shepard had 16 and SDSU tied the school record with its 20th straight win. The Aztecs (21-1, 10-0 Mountain West) matched the 20-game win streak by the 2010-11 team, which won its first 20 games before losing at BYU. That team was the first in school history to reach the NCAA round of 16 after getting the programs first victories in the NCAA tournament. It finished 34-3, best in team history. The current Aztecs are the first to open league play 10-0. SDSU was coming off a 67-65 win at Boise State in which it erased a 14-point deficit before winning on a 3-point shot by Dwayne Polee II with four seconds left. The Aztecs only loss was a 69-60 home defeat to then-No. 6 Arizona on Nov. 14. Jerry Evans Jr. scored 17 points for Nevada (12-12, 7-4). After taking control late in the first half, Saan Diego State pulled away in the second half.dddddddddddd The Aztecs went on a 7-0 run to go up 55-41 with 10:57 left. Aqeel Quinn hit a 3-pointer, JJ OBrien made two free throws after he was fouled hard by Burton and Dwayne Polee had a steal and a layup. After Nevadas Michael Perez made a 3-pointer, Winston Shepard took a pass from Matt Shrigley for a baseline dunk and then made a layup for a 59-44 lead. The Wolf Pack closed to 61-52 on a layup and 3-pointer by Evans before the Aztecs quickly pushed the lead back to 15. Josh Davis had a layup, Shepard a bank shot and Davis a steal and a slam dunk. "They played good pressure defence the whole game," Evans said. "That is a great group and everyone that played contributed. They were too much to overcome tonight. You spend a lot of energy getting the ball past half court. For 40 minutes it is tough to even run a play. "We just gave up baskets at the wrong time and they were getting to the free throw line." The Aztecs closed the first half on a 7-0 run -- including two free throws and a layup by Josh Davis -- for a 37-31 lead. It would have been a 9-0 run by Dwayne Polee missed an easy layup with three seconds left. Shepard made two straight shots for a 30-26 lead before the Wolf Pack went up 31-30 on Ronnie Stevens shot off a rebound and AJ Wests three-point play. 01:26ET 09-02-14 ' ' '

Luke Schenn was picked 12 spots ahead of Jake Gardiner. Looming this summer for Dave Nonis and Toronto management is a decision similar to the one faced when it came to Schenn - deciding when to cut bait with a high-upside, but potentially flawed prospect. Then-Leafs general manager Brian Burke made the choice at just the right time with Schenn, who is back in town on Saturday, sending him to Philadelphia for James van Riemsdyk, the one-time second-overall selection who had yet to blossom as a Flyer. Gardiner has stalled in his third NHL season, only sparingly resembling the emphatic, change-of-pace defender he was in the playoffs last spring and before that, as a rookie, under then-head coach Ron Wilson. Like Schenn, the 23-year-old was viewed very recently as a concrete piece of the Leafs future, a status that has muddied with each game gone by, his performance wavering uncertainly in each of the past two seasons. Gardiner, whose name has been floated in trade rumours constantly, is a restricted free agent this summer and its at that point that a choice will definitively be made on his future with the Leafs. Though he still leads the team in even-strength ice-time this season, he has seen his opportunities consistently plummet; from a season-high of nearly 24 minutes nightly in December down to less than 21 in January to fewer than 19 in February and now to a season-low of about 17 in early March. Theres upside there – his elite skating ability most prominent – and the Leafs know it, but in some doubt now is whether that upside can be unlocked or whether the former Wisconsin star is too flawed in other areas to make him worth hanging onto, especially with younger defenders like Morgan Rielly, Stuart Percy and Matt Finn already in the prospect chain. Unlike Nazem Kadri, who tested the organizations patience, but eventually offered sustained stretches of development, Gardiners play has been mostly erratic since his rookie debut. There was a six-game spell in the playoffs against Boston with other hints proving infrequent. Its well established that defencemen typically take longer to mature than forwards – Drew Doughty and Erik Karlsson among the notable exceptions – all of which complicates the decision-making process when it comes to Gardiner. His inconsistent play in the past two seasons may be just be part of the development curve. Once a defenceman himself, head coach Randy Carlyle joked that it took "too long" for him to finally mature into a well-rounded NHL defender, offering insight into why the process lingers at the position.dddddddddddd "I think because you handle the puck more," said Carlyle, who won a Norris Trophy in his fifth season. "Theres more pressure on a defenceman in the game to handle the puck and make the right decision with the puck and youre constantly under pressure from the opposition trying to strip you of the puck, body-check, all of those things…" Tim Gleason, a 31-year-old and member of the 2010 U.S. Olympic team in Vancouver, said it was only a few years ago that he found his bearings at the NHL level. His response as to why it took as long as it did mirrored Carlyle. "The more you do it the more used to it you get and it slows down a tiny bit," he told the Leaf Report. "Its different than being a forward; you have pressure on you instead of giving pressure. As a forward, youre taught to pressure the puck as quick as you can, as fast as you can. As a defenceman, your job is to protect the puck, get the puck out being under pressure. I think thats a big deal." Gardiner has struggled in that regard. His decision-making with the puck and, even without it, has been flawed. Hes made wholehearted attempts to make "smarter plays with the puck," "not making so many turnovers and or, at least, not in bad areas," but its remained an ongoing issue anyway. At Carlyles prodding, hs also tried to become a stiffer defender, stating his intent to work on things such as "having one hand on my stick, body position, finishing checks." Hes watched a lot of video, too, even pulling his performance from that memorable series against the Bruins at one point earlier this year. Its tantalizing performances like that – when he had five points in six games – that surely give Nonis and his team pause when it comes to moving on from Gardiner. Schenn was dealt only nine months after he signed a rich, five-year deal with the Leafs. It was determined that his shortcomings – foot speed specifically – would ultimately keep him from reaching the promise that saw the club move up two spots to select him in the 08 draft. With his value still at a point where it could seemingly fetch some sort of return, Gardiners shortcomings could force another such decision in the months ahead. The Toronto defence has been a source of instability all year and will certainly require an upgrade or two in the offseason. Whether Gardiner and Cody Franson, a fellow restricted free agent, fit into that mix remains to be seen. Four members of the Leaf back-end are signed beyond this season – Gleason, Rielly, Dion Phaneuf and Carl Gunnarsson – all seemingly on more solid ground within the organization than either Gardiner or Franson. Theres upside there with the Minnesota native. In question is whether the Leafs will keep waiting for it. ' ' '

It may have been Chelsea who recently featured in an episode of The Simpsons, but its Manchester United who have morphed into a mere caricature of themselves. Rooneys latest piece of football genius lost in the furore which now stalks David Moyes, and the man who gave the Manchester United striker his start as a 16-year old at Goodison Park back in 2002. Verbally abused as he sat in the dugout during the later stages of yet another disjointed performance in the midweek Manchester Derby - a banner which proclaimed the Ferguson rubber stamped appointment has now become a focal point for growing supporter fury with the 50-year old Scotsman. The Chosen One has become the Chastised One. The Old Trafford storm clouds are certainly gathering and how Moyes will hope that infamous Manchester rain will play its part just ahead of the kick off against Aston Villa Saturday when most of the 75,000 in attendance will be gazing skyward at a plane which will trail a, "Wrong One: Moyes Out" banner. Weve moved on then from a time where fans would meet down the pub pre-match and march in protest to the ground. This fly by is not the work of a few mavericks merely looking for cheap publicity at Moyes expense, but is the response to a season lost from the all influential Red Issue Fanzine. Raising the $1,500 cost in less time it took for Toure to bang in a third Manchester City goal, earlier Friday Red Issue explained their motivation for organizing the fly by protest in a statement to the media. "The decision to fly a plane over Old Trafford bearing the slogan Wrong One: Moyes Out is one born out of acute frustration. It is frustration at the poor results, lack of fight on the pitch and the unavoidable signs that David Moyes isnt up to the highest standards required to manage Manchester United Football Club." "A significant proportion of Manchester United fans have had enough and unequivocally want David Moyes sacked. Further frustration has been created from the inaccurate perception that all Manchester United fans are behind David Moyes." "The plane and banner which will fly over the stadium this Saturday attempts to directly counter this very unpopular [Chosen One] banner with the words Wrong One and the Moyes Out wording is our statement of what a significant group of Manchester United fans want to happen next at our club." Choice words. To his credit at Fridays pre-match press conference, Moyes defended the supporters right to protest and reiterated his appreciations to all the supporters who continue to back him. Intriguingly that number includes the supporter who rose to Old Trafford infamy when back in 1989 he unfurled a banner which demanded Fergsuon depart a club he had been in charge of for three years but was yet to deliver any silverware. We all know now how that ended. Such though has been the dramatic fall from grace under Moyes, even the leagues CEO Richard Scudamore felt compelled to discuss the matter when stating a belief Manchester Uniteds current predicament was bad for business. No club in English football is more passionately followed across the globe than the champions. The season long funk has also wreaked havoc with Rio Ferdinands personal and social life. The six-time BPL winner has disclosed a preference currently for not taking his kids to school or go out for an evening. This, as ways to avoid supporters and the embarrassment of a season that even with seven matches remaining will return the lowest point total for Manchester United in the Premier League era. Astonishingly, Sir Alex Ferguson is no longer immune from abuse; this occurring as he was sat up in his directors box perch Wednesday evening. Not only did Ferguson leave Moyes soiled goods with many players clearly past their sell by date, there is also a growing sense Ferguson did most of the bidding for the much despised Glazer family. Since they took control in 2005, the owners are reported to have taken $1 biliion out of the club. This income has been taken out to service interest payments and meet other financial demands. Money supporters say should have been reinvested in the squad. To arrest the decline it will take more than the type of panic buying that saw Manchester United pay well over the market odds for Fellaini in the summer and Mata in January. Let there be no doubt these are unprecedented times at Old Trafford. One of the more popular London tabloids spoke Thursday of a coup led by the class of 92 and bankrolled by oil money. Even the New York Stock Exchange got in on the action when the clubs share price rose five per cent. For a club which has already lost six BPL matches at home, Moyes will need a significant response from his players Saturday. The defending Canadian champion defeated Stefanie Lawton of Saskatoon 6-5 in the final game of the seven-game round robin to finish 4-3, but Winnipegs Chelsea Carey and Ontarios Sherry Middaugh also sported the same mark. Homan got bumped to the semi, though, because her Ottawa rink fared better than Carey and Middaughs teams on rankings based on draws to the button before games throughout the week. "It wasnt important," Homan said of avoiding a tie-breaker. "Its nice to be able to get second place and go into the semi. Either way we had a chance and thats all we needed." Carey and Middaugh will play their tie-breaker Friday at 1:30 p.m. (CT), with the winner taking on Homan later that night at 6:30. Homan, 24, had no preference on which team theyd prefer taking on. "Weve played them both a million times and its going to be a good game either way and hopefully we can win it in 10 (ends)," Homan said. Winnipeg veteran skip Jennifer Jones already earned a bye into Saturday nights final (6:30 p.m. CT) and will watch her competitors battle it out. Jones, 39, defeated Edmontons Heather Nedohin 6-5 to finish her round robin at 66-1, while Nedohin ended with a 3-4 mark.dddddddddddd Homan almost had to play in a tie-breaker, but Edmontons Val Sweeting lost 9-8 in an extra end to Renee Sonnenberg of Grande Prairie, Alta., and fell to 3-4. Sonnenberg finished 1-6. Carey had a chance to grab second place outright, but she lost 7-6 to Middaugh. "If theyd told us at the start of the week wed have a tie-breaker, wed take it," Carey, 29, said. Yet she knows her rink will have to curl better to earn a chance to play in an all-Winnipeg final, with the victor representing Canada at next years Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. "We just didnt make enough shots (to win)," Carey said. "I missed a couple bad shots. We just have to make more shots. You just cant be that sloppy against these teams and expect to win." Middaugh, whos competing in her fourth trials, was leading 5-3 after six ends and stole another point in the seventh. Carey rebounded with a nose hit for three in the eighth to tie it 6-6, but Middaugh added one in the 10th for the victory. Middaugh, 47, also saw room for improvement after the win. "The first seven ends were fun and then I turned off my brain in my last shot in eight and then the collar got a little tight after that so I cant lie," Middaugh said. ' ' '

MANCHESTER, England -- Statement released by David Moyes on Wednesday, a day after being fired by Manchester United after less than a season in charge. "To have been appointed as manager of Manchester United, one of the biggest football clubs in the world, was and remains something of which I will always be incredibly proud. "Taking charge after such a long period of continuous stability and success at the club was inevitably going to be a significant challenge, but it was one which I relished and never had a second thought about taking on. "The scale of the managers job at United is immense, but I have never stepped away from hard work and the same applies to my coaching staff. I thank them for their dedication and loyalty throughout the last season. "We were fully focused and committed to the process of the fundamental rebuilding that is required for the senior squad. This had to be achieved whilst delivering positive results in the Barclays Premier League and the Champions League. However, during this period of transition, performances and results have not been what Manchester United and its fans are used to or expect, and I both understand and share their frustration. "In my short time at the club I have learnt what special places Old Trafford and Carrington are. I would like to thank the United staff for making me feel so welcome and part of the United family from my first day.
