Can Notre Dame get to the BCS Championship Game

Coach Holtz went out on a limb by picking Notre Dame to go to the big game this year and the sports world went nuts. While every talking head that can get airtime picked Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, USC or Alabama, Holtz thought outside the box and got slammed for it. a homer is probably the nicest thing said about the analyst this week.

It is amazing that the world has dismissed a man with over 200 NCAA wins, Coach of the Year, and a National Title on his resume as a know-nothing who is only obliging the loyal fans of the Blue and Gold with a charity pick. Before going too far, it is worth noting that this coach who lost his senses also picked Florida to be the other team in that game. So technically everybody thinks that Little Lou is only half nuts.

First, Holtz only said that Notre Dame would reach the game; he didn say that they would win the game. So for everyone screaming that Texas, USC, Florida, Alabama, LSU, or even Penn State would kill Notre Dame by five touchdowns you need to take a breath. No one, not Holtz or anyone else, said that the Irish will win the title. Heck, even Coach Weis hasn said that.

Next, examine the probability that Notre Dame could make it. Examine the past few years. Why has Ohio State always been Apple iPhone 5 Covers in the conversation? Now if Notre Dame can stay focused and beat the teams they should, and not drop them like they did last year (Syracuse), and if they can find a way to beat USC at home anyone really think that the BCS and the media wouldn be jumping at the chance to put the Irish in the title game? They could even drop an early game, looking at you MSU, but if they run the rest and beat the Trojans, they in.
