UFFIE MAKES THE DENIM JEANS OF YOUR DREAMS ELLE
UFFIE MAKES THE DENIM JEANS OF YOUR DREAMSDecember 6 2:51 PMby Rebecca Willa Davis 0 Comments Photo: Diesel Before she was touring the world with Justice, partying with cheap coach outlet Pharrell Williams, and having a Beastie Boy remix her songs, Uffie was a student in fashion school. She may have left before she received her diplomaa music career beckonedbut the Paris-based electro-pop star clearly hasn't forgotten what she learned in the classroom, judging by her coach outlet capsule collection for Diesel. The 12 piece collaboration ranges from a structured leather-and-denim corset jumpsuit to an oversize ombre bag, all appropriate for dance floors and after-parties. Indeed, the collection is inspired as much by Uffie's own effortlessly chic style as it is her musicafter all, her debut album released this summer was called Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans. And though this capsule collection is good enough to warrant an honorary degree, the performer has used her time on the road to good use, checking out the style at every stop. What city never ceases to amaze her? "It's a cliché, but Tokyo. There's nothing like it!" ELLE: Which came first, the title to your album Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans or the Diesel denim collaboration? The album title. Denim for me is the fabric of rebellion, and as the album became a bit of a diary of my youth it seemed fitting! ELLE: On the album, there are several references to the music industry (and your position within it)has your opinion of it evolved since you first started making music in 2005? Uffie: Definitely. When you begin everything is excited, shiny...thrilling, really. But almost http://english.ipp.ac.cn/coachoutlet365.html everyone wants something from you, and it's not always in your best interest. You also realize there are so many aspects [of the business] that become important that have nothing to do with music. Uffie models looks from her collection for Diesel. Photo: Diesel ELLE: What's harder: Writing a song or designing an item of clothing? Uffie: Writing a songit's something that, for me, is incredibly personal. ELLE: With your fashion background, did Diesel give you a lot of freedom to design? Uffie: Yes, it was a mutual understanding from the beginning that we wanted to show my world. It was a pleasure working together because of [that] respect. ELLE: If this collection for Diesel had a five song soundtrack, what would be on it? Uffie: "Last Nite" by the Strokes, "Song 2" by Blur, "Players Anthem" by Biggie, "Neuneu" by Uffie, and "Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans" by Uffie. ELLE: Diesel's tagline is "Be Stupid." What's the stupidest thing you've ever done? Uffie: Jumping off a rail into the Pacific Ocean in Osaka at Summer Sonic [Festival] and getting fished out! Tags: diesel uffie
