Razorlight’s New Cuts ELLE
Razorlight’s New CutsFebruary 11 11:25 AMby ELLE 0 Comments Last night, Brit band Razorlight played an energetic show at Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza to celebrate their new album, Slipway Fires (due for stateside release in March). Before they coach factory outlet went on, we caught up with lead singer Johnny Borrell. Â?Erin Clements How has your music evolved over the band's three albums? I think in the first album, I was definitely talking to people around me and it was like sending them little text messages. The lyrics of each song were like a voicemail that I left for somebody. And the second one was more like I was coach factory trying to sing to everybody in the world at once. And in the third, I really got back to talking to the coach outlet online people in my life, but rather than leaving them a voicemail it was like I wrote them a letter. What were you hoping to achieve with Slipway Fires? The one thing I wasn't doing was trying to write an album to deliver to the world. I felt like because our first album was so successful, that put us in a position where we could do two thingsÂ?we could either really start playing the game and try to get clever and play to 20,000 people and sell X amount of recordsÂ?then I thought, maybe the success has brought us the freedom to go the other way and forget about that and just make honest music.  What was it like working with producer Mike Crossey, who's also worked with Arctic Monkeys? He was great, full of energy. I knew of him from before, because we both produced the same band at one point so he was a competitor of mine sometime back, and I knew his stuff. Mike just blew us away. It was the first time we went into the album with someone who was about the same age as us rather than a legendary father-figure type. What did he bring coach factory outlet to the album? You get some coach factory outlet producers who are all about the musicianship and the performance, and some who are just about making the record sound like a record. Then you get some who are all about capturing excitement. But Mike is an all-arounder and was able to do all of those things. We spoke a lot about what our philosophical approach would be. We didn't want to make a retro-sounding record. We just wanted to make a record that sounded like it could be from any era and was not specifically rooted anywhere. coach factory outlet And we wanted to try and get a vocal sound as good as the vocal sound on the American recordings by Johnny Cash. Tell me about your new single, "Hostage of Love." I was talking to a friend who was telling me about the Catholic notion of forgiveness: that we are all sinners and if you sin and repent you're forgiven. And I was thinking about a relationship and how you make the love you have your GodÂ?you create this sacred thing that's your relationship, and that's wonderful. The song is about someone transgressing that relationship and then repenting and asking for the forgivenessÂ?but in this world, in this relationship, there is none. I don't know what the sequel to that is. Tags:
