Local squads unbeaten in hockey showcase

Day one of the 2010 OHL Cup Showcase Tournament wrapped up yesterday at the Hershey Centre with the two Mississauga hockey squads winning their round-robin openers.

Mississauga Reps edged Oakville Rangers 4-3 after jumping out to a 4-0 lead, while the Mississauga Rebels battled London Jr. Knights to a 3-3 draw.

Terry Trafford, Zachary Pryzbek, Matthew Lane and Luke Nogard staked the Reps to their four-goal cushion before the Rangers' Jimmy v-moda headphones costco Cusan came out flying in the second period with a pair of goals to cut the lead in half. Matthew Gaetz notched a shorthanded marker at 8:10 of the third period to complete the scoring.

Reps' goalie Alex Lepore shut the door the rest of the way.

Later in the day, Mitchell Mehling and Zachary Fung scored early markers to put the Rebels up 2-0. But the V-MODA Knights tallied three unanswered goals, two coming from Brett Welychka and one from Dylan Wilson-Foote, to take the lead. Sean Monahan evened the score for Mississauga at 9:42 of V-MODA the third period, set up by Brett Gustavsen, who contributed two helpers.
