(SportsNetwork. Brian Sutter Jersey .com) - After losing the longest shootout in NHL history, the Washington Capitals hope to rebound with a road win Thursday against the red-hot Columbus Blue Jackets. Washington dropped a 2-1 decision against the Panthers on Thursday, losing after an epic 20-round shootout battle. Despite the loss -- the Capitals second in three outings -- Washington was able to extend its point streak to six games (4-0-2). Tuesdays game featured a total of two goals through 65 minutes, but the clubs combined to hit the net 11 times in the shootout phase. Both teams went through their entire lineup once, with the Capitals grabbing the lead five times only to see Florida answer on its last shot every time. Nick Bjugstad eventually won the contest for Florida in the 20th round after Washington star Alex Ovechkin missed the net on the previous attempt. Earlier Ovechkin had scored the first goal of the shootout when he beat Roberto Luongo to start the fourth round. Bjugstad got Braden Holtby to bite on a backhand deke before burying a wrister into the right corner of the net. Tuesdays epic battle surpassed the previous shootout record of 15 rounds between the New York Rangers and Washington on Nov. 26, 2005, which the Capitals also lost. At first you just want to get the victory, but when it went to 16, 17 rounds you just started to enjoy it, said Washington head coach Barry Trotz. You were just living in the moment and hoped that you would get the two points. Unfortunately we didnt. The wild shootout affair marked the start of a three-game road trip for the Capitals, who fell to 8-5-2 as the guest. Tuesdays tilt also began a road- heavy stretch that will have Washington closing the month with six of seven games away from D.C. The Caps will try to cool off the sizzling Blue Jackets tonight after Columbus earned its seventh straight win with Tuesdays 1-0 shootout victory in Detroit. Columbus entered December with a 6-15-2 record, but is a perfect 7-0 this month and is now only seven points out of a playoff spot in the East. The Blue Jackets are six behind Washington in the conferences wild card standings. The Caps and Jackets have split two meetings this season, with Columbus taking the most recent encounter in a 3-2 shootout win last Thursday at the Verizon Center. Nick Foligno provided the OT winner for the Blue Jackets with a power- play goal, while Sergei Bobrovsky made 39 saves for the victory. Last weeks triumph was Columbus third in the last four meetings against the Capitals. Washington also has lost two straight at Nationwide Arena, where Columbus is 6-8-1 this season. The Blue Jackets are beginning a five-game homestand tonight and wont play a road game until visiting Arizona on Jan. 3. The Blue Jackets have needed to go past regulation five times during their current winning streak, and Thursdays win in the Motor City was their fourth consecutive time going beyond the third period. Bobrovsky, who has won every game on the current winning streak, made 30 saves through 65 minutes and added another stop in the shootout to record the victory over Detroit. The 2013 Vezina Trophy winner has allowed just 12 goals on 242 shots this month for a sterling .950 save percentage in December. Ryan Johansen and Boone Jenner beat Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard in the shootout and Bobrovsky had no trouble putting his pads on a weak shot by Henrik Zetterberg to give Columbus another win. Pavel Datsyuk was the only player to beat Bobrovsky all night, fooling his fellow Russian with a backhand to open the shootout. Gustav Nyquist fired Detroits other shot off the post. Bobrovsky notched his first shutout of the season, and 10th of his career. Bob was good, said Jackets head coach Todd Richards. But Ill tell you what, the 18 guys that were skating in front of him were good tonight, too. (Detroits) a good hockey team, and when you get a shutout like that, its a total team effort. Bobrovsky is 4-1-2 with a 2.81 goals against average in eight career games against Washington. Holtby is expected to face him and is 3-1-1 with a 2.79 GAA in this matchup. Vince Dunn Jersey . The best round belonged to Pat Perez. Tiger Woods didnt come close to claiming either Thursday in the Farmers Insurance Open, where the seven-time champion failed to break par in the opening round for first time in his career. Robert Bortuzzo Jersey . Hamilton signed offensive linemen Mike Filer, Joel Reinders, Landon Rice and Carson Rockhill. http://www.officialbluesnhlshop.com/martin-brodeur-jersey/ . Its been a successful Games for Canada, which will finish near the top of the medal standings again. From repeat gold medal winners to multiple medal winners to undefeated teams to acts that define the Olympic spirit, there are many solid candidates who could be considered to receive the honour.MINNEAPOLIS - Kobe Bryant has reached rarefied air.The Los Angeles Lakers star passed Michael Jordan for third on the NBAs career scoring list Sunday night in a 100-94 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.Bryant entered the game needing nine points to pass the icon with whom he is often compared. He got the mark with two free throws with 5:24 to play in the second quarter.Im just honoured to be here, man, to still be playing, Bryant said. I appreciate being able to play this long. Careers normally dont last this long. I really appreciate the opportunity to still be out there playing and performing and doing what I do.Now only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone have scored more points than Bryant.I congratulate Kobe on reaching this milestone, Jordan, the owner of the Charlotte Hornets, said in a statement released to The Associated Press. Hes obviously a great player, with a strong work ethic and has an equally strong passion for the game of basketball. Ive enjoyed watching his game evolve over the years, and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes next.Bryant didnt break a record Sunday night. Abdul-Jabbar is still more than 6,000 points ahead of him and in no danger of being caught. But moving past Jordan was cause for celebration. The two players have been linked for years and Bryant often mimicked Jordan from his earliest days in the league, from the way he pumped his fist after big shots to adopting the fade-away jumper as his career has progressed and even sprinkling in a little tongue-wagging on his drives to the bucket as a youth. He knows how much Ive learned from him, Bryant said. From the other legends, but him in particular. The Timberwolves stopped the game, and a Lakers-heavy crowd gave Bryant a standing ovation as Wolves owner Glen Taylor — the NBAs chairman of the board — presented him with the game ball. With a big smile on his face, Bryant received hugs from teammates and the Timberwolves, and waved to the crowd during the brief stoppage.Bryant has been chasing Jordan for almost two decades now. Hes still one title short of the six Jordan won with the Bulls, but has now caught Jordan in the games defining individual statistic.Bryant had 32,284 points when he took the floor against a Timberwolves team that includes 19-year-old rookies Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine, two players who were barely born when Bryant made his NBA debut in 1996.He missed four of his first five field goals, but knocked down a 3-pointer midway through the second quarter to pull within two points. He nearly passed Jordan with one of his patented fall-away jumpers from the baseline, but it rimmed out and with 5:24 to play and 24 seconds on the shot clock, No. 24 steppped to the line and calmly swished two freebies to do it. Carter Hutton Jersey. He finished the night with 26 points and 32,310 for his career. It took Bryant 1,269 games to reach the NBAs career scoring podium. Jordan amassed his 32,292 points in 1,039 regular-season games.Jordan moved into third place in 2003, and the top of the NBAs scoring mountain had remained unchanged for nearly 12 years. Ever since Bryant really started to hit his stride as an elite scorer beginning with his fourth year in the league, he was widely considered the one to the record books would have to reserve a spot for.Just like weve never seen another player like Michael Jordan, we will never see another player like Kobe Bryant! Lakers Hall of Famer Magic Johnson tweeted.Jordan retired and came back twice, giving up prime years that cost him a shot at Abdul-Jabbars record. Jordan also played three years of college while Bryant jumped straight to the pros and started racking up the points, albeit at a gradual rate. But Bryant endured his own hardship as he rose up the ranks. His aggressive climb up the scoring ladder was stunted as he dealt with major injuries to his Achilles tendon and knee that limited him to six games last season. He has returned this season as ferocious as ever, but has struggled with efficiency while shooting a ghastly 38.7 per cent.Moving any further up the list will be a challenge. Malone (36,92 is more than 4,500 points ahead of the 36-year-old Bryant for second place and Abdul-Jabbar (38,387) is on top of the mountain by a healthy margin. If Bryant couldnt surpass Jordan at home, and he couldnt do it against the long-time rival Celtics in Boston, what better place than Minneapolis, the birth place of the Lakers franchise. The famed Laker Nation is as strong here as it is in any road venue, with thousands of fans wearing purple and gold every time they come through town.Bryants first career game came against the Timberwolves as an 18-year-old in 1996, when he went scoreless in six minutes. The vast majority of the fans who come to Target Center in Lakers gear werent around when uprooted and moved to Los Angeles after the 1959-60 season. They come not to see a team that brought five championships to the city between 1948 and 1954.They come to see Kobe, and he gave them all a little history to remember on Sunday night.I think it puts him in the conversation of who is the greatest, Lakers coach Byron Scott said. I think his names going to be mentioned when its all said and done. His goal is still to win another championship or two, so well have to wait until the book is completed, but as I said at the beginning of the season, he still has a lot left in the tank.
